Srirangapatana Obelisk at Srirangapatna Fort part of Srirangapatna tourism Karnataka tourism South India. Obelisk at Srirangapatana Fort is an unknown Srirangapatna tourist place Karnataka South India is a Historical site. Karnataka tourism has this unknown location surrounded by river cauvery. Mandya tourism and Mysore tourism has many such places.
Commemorative Obelisk in Srirangapatna is a memorial erected by the then government of Mysore in memory of the English soldiers died during the siege of Srirangapatna.
The Obelisk stands at the center of an expansive and concentric series of steps, on a high point close to the fort walls.
The four plaques fixed on the of the square base is inscribed with various details.
Above the base structure is a conical projection supported by four cannonballs. Another canon ball is fixed the the very top too.The inscription on one side reads This monument is erected by the government of Mysore in 1907 in order to commemorate the siege of Seringapatam by the British forces under lieutenant general G. Harris and its final capture by assault on the 4th May 1799. As also the names of those gallant officers who fell during the operations.
The next side is a corps wise table that lists the number of soldiers and officers wounded,killed or missing for the siege (4 april to 4th May 1799). The final tally reads as Killed-192, Wounded -657 and missing -25. That's the official version of the damage the British corps suffered at Srirangapatna.
The other two sides lists the rank, name and the regiment of the european officers killed.
Though it is not very difficult to access Obelisk but is not frequented by tourists as other nearby attractions in Srirangapatna. Historically this sits on a very eventful place during the siege of Srirangapatna. The Obelisk is at the northwestern corner of the fort.
From the Colonel Bailey's dungeon take the road along the ramparts to the east. After crossing the railway line you can see the Delhi Gate facing the riverside. A little ahead you will see this tall structure over the edges of the zigzag rampants.
Srirangapatna in Mandya district of Karnataka state is an island formed in the course of River Cauvery. Cauvery River flows on eastern side of the island and deviates to west before it creates the island and called Paschimavahini.Here we can see the confluence of three holy rivers namely Kaveri, Kabini and Hemavathi.

Situated in the Mandya district in the state of Karnataka, South India, Srirangapatnam was once the capital of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan, the 'Tiger of Mysore'. Situated on the river, this small island houses the imposing Srirangapatnam Fort built in 1454. Tipu Sultan fought his last battle against the British from here and an obelisk marks the spot where he was killed. Standing outside the eastern wall of the fortress is Daria Daulat bagh, a beautiful garden surrounding Tipu's summer palace. The personal belongings and souvenirs connected with the two rulers are at display here in a small museum.

He rebuild the statues and carvings to the original design. Mr. Narasimhaiah, a civil engineer and retired from Karnataka State Archaeology Dept. is was the engineer I/C of the Project. Agama Praveena Sri Shalva Pille Iyenger, Sanskrit Scholar looked after the work from Hindu Sastra angle.Besides above, following six members from Orissa Association Mysore (OAM) and one from the families of Iyengars of Bangalore were in the team to coordinate in the renovation activities:Dilip Kumar Misra, President OAM, G. Day Trip from Bangalore to Shrirangapattana (Srirangapatna) in Mandya district. I saw Tipu Sultan's fort, Colonel Bailey's Dungeon, The Sound and Light show grounds, and the British Garrison cemetery. (I skipped the summer palace as foreigners are charged much more than the usual fare for entry) An interesting place for a day trip.

Srirangapatna Fort is a historical fort located in Srirangapatna, the historical capital city in the South Indian state of Karnataka. Built by the Timmanna Nayaka in 1454, the fort came to prominence during the rule of Tipu Sultan. The fort was fully fortified and the architecture was modified with the help of French architects to meet the growing needs of saving against invaders. The river Kaveri surrounds the fort in one of the sides. The fort is protected in the West and Northern directions by river Cauvery. The fort had Lal Mahal and Tipu's palace, which were demolished during the British capture of 1799. There are seven outlets and two dungeons.

Tipu Sultan, prominently known as Sher-e-Mysore (Tiger of Mysore) is also given the sobriquet of Sher-e-Hind and Sher-e-Mashriq (Tiger of the East). Tipu Sultan, also known as the Tiger of Mysore and Tipu Sahib, was a ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore, scholar and poet, recognized as one of the greatest South Asian rulers of all time. He was the eldest son of Sultan Hyder Ali of Mysore.
Tipu Sultan, the Great Ruler of Mysore:
After Hyder Ali died due to Carbuncle in the year 1782, Tipu became the new ruler of Mysore. This new ruler who had already fought two war – First Anglo Mysore and Second Anglo Mysore War under the leadership of his father knew that British forces were a great threat to the independent Kingdom of Mysore. He therefore focused more on military advances, especially Mysorean rockets which were successfully used by his father in the Second Anglo Mysore War against the British.

Bangalore Fort although built by Kempe Gowda of Vijaynagar Empire in the 16th century, was renovated and made into a stone fort by Haider Ali in 1761. At one point of time when British bombed the fort, Tipu Sultan repaired it completely. However, the fort was captured by the British after the third Anglo Mysore War. Currently, Delhi Gate and remnants of bastions are the only two parts remaining of this once so powerful fort.
Tipu Sultan's Tomb:
The mausoleum housing Tipu's tomb is another example of Islamic architecture. Tipu's flag is in the foreground.
It is about few km from Srirangapatna, Mandya district, India and the tourists can visit this place by own vehicle or by other private vehicles from Srirangapatna. The Gumbaz is the burial chamber of Tipu Sultan, his father Haider Ali, his mother Fathima Begum, his relatives and his soldiers.

Cauvery River flows through the falls. Edmuri Falls is 1 km from Balmuri Falls. It is a man made check dam built on Kaveri river. As the river turns to the left at this place, it is called Eda means left, and Muri means cut in Kannada. Thus the name Edamuri.
The cascade of water at Edmuri is no less majestic than Balmuri. This place often remains less crowded than Balmuri and offers a never-ending sight of green agricultural fields along the wide Cauvery River.
At a distance of 15 Kms from Mysore near Brindavan Gardens, Edumuri waterfalls is on the way to KRS dam.Its 145 kms from Bangalore.
