St. Albans Roman Catholic Church Larkhill Blackburn built 1901 Filmed in 4K with a DJI Mavic 2.
The original church was founded in 1773 and replaced by a larger church that was opened on the Feast of St. Alban on 21st June 1826. The present building was completed in 1901 and the church remains in excellent condition. It is just behind my workplace and I see it every day. It is one of the landmarks of Blackburn.

StWalburge's Preston September 2013
This is an m4v export. HD version available at
It was a lovely day at the end of September. I went out with a camera intending to film something/anything on such a clear day but not knowing what. I decided on St. Walburge's church only to find that it was open to the public and that I could climb the tower and visit the spire. Couldn't have planned it better!
If you have never seen the view of Preston from St. Walburge's spire then this film is a must. If you have seen the view, then this film will remind you just what it felt like to be up there. What was that Alfred Hitchcock film again...? Oh Yes, 'Vertigo'
So, this has become a film about the church and its history as well as its view. As a church doesn't move then the camera has to move over it. So, if you feel a bit dizzy before we climb the tower then I'm only getting you ready for the thrill at the top. Once again I must thank the Preston Digital Archive at
for the archive photos I have taken from the collection to enrich this film. If you look closely you might see the long gone canal basin, where now stand Uclan buildings, and also The Manxman in Preston dock.
Fred Dibnah put ladders up the steeple and climbed out from where I filmed!! Have a look at these photos on Flikr from Bernie Blackburn to see just how brave or crazy these steeplejacks are!!

St. Gregory's May Procession
This video clip of St. Gregory's May Procession, 1962 or 63, is a multiple generational copies of my cousin Flossie Keough's home movies from the early 1960s. The poor quality of the clip is further degraded due to its capture from a TV screen, thus the wavy scan lines. These is no sound.
My wish is to transfer the format from VHS to DVD but for now you will need to watch the video with a keen eye.
Production Notes: The first boy you see is me with Bobby Blackburn walking next to me and the boy with the glasses and pompadour, looking back, is Joe Caselli.
Some time ago I shared part of this clip with Betty Anne Payne, who you will see standing next to me along with my mom and sister, Patricia. I had such a crush on Betty and was so excited to consider her my girlfriend for she truly was the prettiest girl in the class.
Frankly, over these many years Betty has retained that beauty.
Since this home movie focuses on the Friel and Keough families, some of the groups shots of people may not look familiar.
Do take note of me, towards the end, setting the cool look way before Tom Cruise's time.

Hurford: Wen in Leidenstageam
Edith Hanselman, organist and music director of Strathroy United Church, performs Peter Hunford's Wen in Leidenstagean as the offatory during the August 31, 2008 Sunday service.
Peter Hurford OBE is a British organist, born St Cecilia's day (November 22) 1930 in Minehead, Somerset.
He studied both music and law at Jesus College, Cambridge, graduating with dual degrees, subsequently obtaining an enviable reputation for both musical scholarship and organ playing.
He is best known for his interpretations of Bach, having recorded the complete Bach organ works for Decca and BBC Radio 3. His expertise also encompasses recordings of the Romantic literature for organ, performances notable for attention to stylistic detail. His playing style is noted for clean articulation, beauty of expression, and a sense of proper tempi.
Hurford was appointed organist and choirmaster at St Albans Cathedral in 1958, serving with great distinction in this capacity for exactly twenty years. He conceived the idea of an organ competition in 1963, partly to celebrate the new Harrison & Harrison organ designed by Ralph Downes and himself. This venture was successful mainly because of the young Hurford's rapidly growing stature in Britain and overseas as a result of his refreshing notions of authentic performing style. This has grown into the St Albans International Organ Festival, a world-renowned festival of organ music with competitions whose past winners include many of the great names in modern organ music including Dame Gillian Weir, David Sanger, Thomas Trotter and Kevin Bowyer.
He is the holder of a number of Honorary Doctorates and was appointed an Honorary Fellow of Jesus College in 2006 and has been appointed an OBE. He has written a book: Making Music on the Organ (1998, Oxford University Press, ISBN 0-19-816207-3) and published a deal of choral music for the Anglican liturgy, much of it issued by leading publishers such as Novello and Oxford University Press. His Litany to the Holy Spirit to a famous text by Robert Herrick, is an exquisite miniature and a classic of the genre - it is sung world-wide.
