St Andrew's Church Alfriston
On a sunny, but freezing cold Sunday Morning, January 11th 2009, I drove across country to a favourite Olde Englishe Village, Alfriston, East Sussex, took a brisk walk along the bank of the River Cuckmere, then the beautiful bells of St. Andrew's Church, aka The Cathedral of The Downs, drew me into the Morning Service. I panned around The Tye as the bells rang out loudly, but sweetly that lovely morning.
CHURCH OF ST ANDREW ALFRISTON EAST SUSSEX. 1080HD
St Andrew's Church is the parish church of Alfriston, East Sussex, England. This Grade I listed building[1] was built in the 1370s and is also known as the 'Cathedral of the Downs'.[2] It sits on a small, flint-walled mound, indicating that it was the site of a pre-Christian place of worship,[3] in the middle of 'the Tye' (the local village green), overlooking the River Cuckmere, and is surrounded by the flowered graveyard. It is built in the form of a cross.
Mysteriously, no records or monuments indicate who commissioned the church's construction. A consistent architectural style throughout indicates that it was built all at once. Typically, completing such a building before tastes and building techniques have changed is possible only when an individual or family has sponsored the construction, and that person would be buried in the church's graveyard or entombed within. However, St Andrew's does not have any grand tomb or memorial, nor any records indicating who a patron might be. Additionally, there was no Lord of the Manor for Alfriston at the time.[3]

A delightful village in the heart of sussex. St Andrews is known as the Cathedral of the downs, though i believe there maybe a few others which claim that title. Full of quaint tea rooms and medievil pubs/Inns.

Isleham priory and St Andrew's Church
The Priory of St Margaret of Antioch was founded in the village in 1090. It was always an alien priory run directly from France and, as such, was dissolved in 1414. It was later used as a barn and is now looked after by English Heritage.
St Andrew's parish church is the burial site for important ancestors of the Peyton family. Many visitors who have Peyton ancestors visit the church throughout the year, and obtain rubbings of the famous brasses decorating the Peyton monuments. The church continues to be restored with the help of donations from Peyton families in the UK and USA.

Alciston Church Sussex Primrose Time
On Easter Monday, 5th April 2010, I visited another Sussex Village that I had never been into before and found a little Church with the prettiest primroses growing wild, en masse, together with some bright daffodils too.
A St. George's Flag was flying in the breeze, plus there were quite beautiful views across the Countryside from the Churchyard.
