Curry Rivel, Somerset, and St Andrew's Church
GO TO TO VIEW MY FAMILY HISTORY WEBSITE.
A number of generations of the Weaver family lived in Curry Rivel in Somerset. The headstone surmounted by a cross in the churchyard is that of my 4 x great-grandparents, Robert Weaver and his wife, Sarah, nee Street, and one of their sons.
My great-grandfather, Henry James Weaver, is remembered on the War Memorial in the village and also inside St Andrew's Church. He was accidentally killed in WW1, nine months after he'd stood at the altar inside the same church to marry his bride, Florence Smale.
Other family surnames associated with Curry Rivel include Twogood and Fidoe.

The Swans of 'Wells Cathedral' - Somerset, England
Wells Cathedral:
The Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew, commonly known as Wells Cathedral, is an Anglican cathedral in Wells, Somerset. The cathedral, dedicated to St Andrew the Apostle, is the seat of the Bishop of Bath and Wells. It is the mother church of the diocese and contains the bishop's throne (cathedra). It was built between 1175 and 1490, replacing an earlier church built on the same site in 705......The cathedral's architecture presents a harmonious whole which is entirely Gothic and mostly in the Early English style of the late 12th and early 13th centuries. In this respect Wells differs from most other English medieval cathedrals, which have parts in the earlier Romanesque style introduced to Britain by the Normans in the 11th century.
Bishops Palace:
This splendid medieval palace has been the home of the Bishops of Bath & Wells for over 800 years. The first bishop of Bath & Wells received a crown licence to build a residence and deer park to the south of the cathedral. Within the fortified Palace walls lie the ruin of the Great Hall, the Bishop's private chapel and 14 acres of gardens, including an arboretum, Community Garden and Garden of Reflection. This uniquely moated palace has an imposing gatehouse with portcullis and drawbridge which give the impression that you may be entering a castle structure, but inside is a peaceful and tranquil residence for the visitor to enjoy.
United States:
The United States of America (USA), commonly known as the United States (U.S.) or America (/əˈmɛrɪkə/), is a federal republic[16][17] composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major self-governing territories, and various possessions.[fn 6] Forty-eight states and the federal district are contiguous and located in North America between Canada and Mexico. The state of Alaska is in the northwest corner of North America, bordered by Canada to the east and across the Bering Strait from Russia to the west. The state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific Ocean. The U.S. territories are scattered about the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, stretching across nine official time zones. The extremely diverse geography, climate and wildlife of the United States make it one of the world's 17 megadiverse countries.[19]
At 3.8 million square miles (9.8 million km2)[20] and with over 324 million people, the United States is the world's third- or fourth-largest country by total area,[fn 7] and the third-most populous. The capital is Washington, D.C., and the largest city is New York City; twelve other major metropolitan areas—each with at least 4.5 million inhabitants—are Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Riverside.

The Bishops Palace at Wells Cathedral
Following our visit to the caves at Wookey Hole and then Cheddar Gorge we decided to visit the Bishops Palace at Wells Cathedral. Surprisingly for a place of worship we had to pay to visit the area, well a donation and when I said I had no cash only card I was told they took cards and a suggested donation was SIX POUNDS ! A little upset as we wanted to attended to service so paid.

30 St Mary Axe (widely known informally as The Gherkin and previously as the Swiss Re Building) is a commercial skyscraper in London's primary financial district, the City of London. It was completed in December 2003 and opened in April 2004.[4] With 41 storeys, it is 180 metres (591 ft) tall[3] and stands on the former sites of the Baltic Exchange and Chamber of Shipping, which were extensively damaged in 1992 by the explosion of a bomb placed by the Provisional IRA in St Mary Axe, the street from which the tower takes its name.[4][9]
After plans to build the 92-storey Millennium Tower were dropped, 30 St Mary Axe was designed by Norman Foster and Arup Group[10] and it was erected by Skanska, with construction commencing in 2001.[3]
The building has become an iconic symbol of London and is one of the city's most widely recognised examples of contemporary architecture.
The grandeur of Wells Cathedral - Somerset, England
Visit England:
England is a country infused with history and heritage. It is also positioned at the cutting edge of design and innovation. A world leader in science and medicine, England is home to major global research facilities. It is also a country of cosmopolitan metropolises at the vanguard of culture and fashion, surrounded by acres of rolling green countryside and hundreds of miles of sublime coastline.
Events planners can choose from a range of venues of every size and shape, from medieval castles and cathedrals to gleaming skyscrapers. And the quality of service, professionalism and transparency is world class. Add to that the value for money, unique combination of breathtaking scenery, innovation, expertise, style and history and it’s clear why England stands apart as a destination for any event.

It was built between 1175 and 1490, replacing an earlier church built on the same site in 705. It is moderately sized among the medieval cathedrals of England, between those of massive proportion such as Lincoln and York and the smaller cathedrals in Oxford and Carlisle. With its broad west front and large central tower, it is the dominant feature of its small cathedral city and a landmark in the Somerset countryside.[9] Wells has been described as unquestionably one of the most beautiful[10] and as the most poetic of English cathedrals.[11]
The cathedral's architecture presents a harmonious whole which is entirely Gothic and mostly in the Early English style of the late-12th and early-13th centuries. In this respect Wells differs from most other English medieval cathedrals, which have parts in the earlier Romanesque style introduced to Britain by the Normans in the 11th century....

Monk's Well, St. Andrews
Ancient holy well or spring located in cemetery adjoining St. Andrews Cathedral grounds. The water inside the interesting structure is stagnant and full of litter and debris. CANMORE, citing Morris and Morris (1982) refer to the well as Monk's Well. They add that St. Cainnech [Kenneth] is associated with it, having supposedly built up a small community there, possibly because it was a holy spot in pre-Christian days. A later well, also derelict, is situated close by, against the wall.
WELLS CATHEDRAL SOMERSET UK
Wells Cathedral is set in the medieval heart of England’s smallest city and is the earliest English cathedral to be built in the Gothic style. The current building was erected between the 12th and 15th centuries and is a significant landmark in Somerset and the South West.
