Places to see in ( Presteigne - UK )
Presteigne is a town and community in Powys, Wales. It was the county town of the historic county of Radnorshire. Despite lying on a minor B road the town has, in common with several other towns close to the Wales-England border, assumed the motto, Gateway to Wales.
The town sits on the south bank of the River Lugg, which forms the England–Wales border as it passes the town — the border effectively wraps around three sides of the town (north, east and south). Nearby towns are Kington to the south and Knighton to the north, and surrounding villages include Norton and Stapleton. The town falls within the Diocese of Hereford.
The town probably began as a small settlement around a Minster church dedicated to St Andrew and at the time of the Domesday Book and formed part of the manor of Humet. By the mid-12th century it was known as 'Presthemede' or 'the border meadow of the priests'. A century later, it passed into the control of the Mortimers, powerful Marcher lords, and on their fall passed into the hands of the Crown. At the end of the 13th century, the majority of the town's inhabitants, mainly English, enjoyed some prosperity but the Black Death and the Glyndŵr rebellion had destroyed this and by the end of the 15th century, the now largely Welsh, population lived in a struggling village. A significant victory in their rebellion was won by the forces of Owain Glyndŵr nearby at the Battle of Bryn Glas in 1402
Sargeants provide a service (Monday to Saturday) to Kington with connections from there to Hereford on services operated by Sargeants, and buses in the opposite direction to Knighton. A once daily service from Ludlow to Builth Wells is also operated via Presteigne. The Kington & Presteigne Railway opened as an extension of the Leominster and Kington Railway on 9 September 1875. The railway line commenced at Titley Junction, passed through Leen farm, to Staunton-on-Arrow, in front of the Rodd farm via Corton into Presteigne.

Church Bell Tower Restoration Project
I had the pleasure to restore this beautiful Bell Tower of a Church located in Ontario, Canada. It was an unforgettable experience that I will always cherish.
The New Westley Bells at Lindfield, Sussex
After almost a year and a half of silence, the sound of bells rings out across the village once more. Once a 21cwt ring now 10cwt.
The new bells had already made history before they were even hung in tower as they are the first complete peal of bells to be cast by Westley's of Stoke-on-Trent.
The church had almost £2.5 million pounds spent on reordering which included the removal of the pews and relocation of the Rood Screen to underneath the tower. As well as a new sound system the church also has underfloor heating.
The bells, all cast in 2019 were hung by Whites of Appleton and tested on Tuesday 9th July after almost a year and a half of no bells for the village. One quite 'rare' thing about the new ring is that the 2nd is tuned to Fx (double-sharp). While the bells were being refurbished it was decided to have the whole tower refurbished which included re-pointing, new ringing gallery staircase, and the installation of a kitchen and toilet facility. The clock, made in 1859 and was sent to India before being installed in All Saints tower has had an overhaul and the village will once again be able to tell the time and hear the quarterly 'ting-tang' chimes as they have not been working for over 5 years!
I was honoured to be invited to ring in the test ring and, on request from the church and tower captain, visiting bands will be welcome after the new year as further work is still to be completed in the tower.

Bellringing at Keighley Shared Church, West Yorkshire
Bellringing at St Andrew's Church in Keighley, which is more commonly known as Keighley Shared Church in West Yorkshire. The bells here are a lovely Gillett and Johnston ring of 8 tuned to F with a tenor weighing 16cwt (in this video, I was ringing the 3rd). These bells have a remarkable similarity to Kildwick which is another 8 up the Aire Valley, but Kildwick are Taylor, but both sets of bells were cast in 1914. We were ringing for a recently departed member of the Clergy Guild, and there is a member of the Clergy Guide present here, ringing the tenor. I was there to help before the Thanksgiving Service. The Church however is a Victorian Church built by R.D Chantrell, architecht of Leeds Minster, on the site of previous churches.

Ringing at Shrawley, Worcestershire
Ringing up and some changes on this lovely six. The bells are rung from the ground floor and this is a delightful church to look around. The bells are a mixture, being mostly Rudhall bells from Gloucester, with a Taylor replacement 5th. They handle well and are easy to strike.
