More footage of beautiful Sint Barthelemy.
Saint Barthélemy, a volcanic island fully encircled by shallow reefs, has an area of 25 square kilometres (9.7 sq mi) and a population of 9,035 (Jan. 2011 estimate). Its capital is Gustavia, which also contains the main harbor to the island. It is the only Caribbean island which was a Swedish colony for any significant length of time; Guadeloupe was under Swedish rule only briefly at the end of the Napoleonic Wars. Symbolism from the Swedish national arms, the Three Crowns, still appears in the island's coat of arms. The language, cuisine, and culture, however, are distinctly French. The island is a popular tourist destination during the winter holiday season, especially for the rich and famous during the Christmas and new year period.
The landing runway is 2170 feet long, and the approach, from either direction, is often plagued by varying degrees of turbulence. As a result, the French aviation authorities require that a special permit be issued to any pilot who intends to land in St. Barts.
Those planning to land in St Barts will have to land in Grand Case, French St Martin, first, in order to get their qualification. St Barts Control tower (Telephone: 590 590 27 65 33 - Fax: 590 590 27 98 96 ) will tell you how to contact a French instructor for certification. It takes a couple of hours, and includes touch-and-go in both directions. Don't do it on a windy day with a hangover.
The landing fee varies from 8.5 Euros to 12.5 Euros, and parking fee is 5.5 Euros/ night.
There are no mechanic nor fuel on the field. Best nearby place for that is at Grand Case Airport in St. Martin. No fuel is available during their long lunch hour.
When you arrive or depart, you are required to deposit a General Declaration form with the immigration officer at the door and file a flight plan : call (+590) 590 27 65 33 or fax (+590) 590 27 98 96.

We had one of our best vacations in Saint Barths this past 2018 Christmas. Getting there was a bit harrowing, flying in on the tiny 20 person plane into SBH airport, but once we landed it was like paradise. If you're looking for Caribbean vacation ideas, St. Barth is a can't miss destination, just make sure to head there April-June to maximize the great prices and still good weather.
We've been a full-time travel blogger couple for 3 years and this was our first time to St. Barth.
// How to Get to Saint Barths [2019 Travel Destinations]
To fly into SBH airport, you need to take a connecting flight. There are no direct flights from either Europe or the US. The two options are:
- Fly from SJU on Tradewind Airlines (this is the route I would recommend as the experience is more seamless and luxurious)
- Fly from SXM St. Martin on a 20 seater plane into SBH (this is how we flew onto the island and left. On our return flight, our flight was delayed and we ended up missing our connection so make sure to plan 3 hours of travel time on your way out)
// Where to Travel & Stay in Saint Barthelemy [Travel Vlog]
St Barts is one of our must-hit 2019 travel destinations and after you watch this video I think you'll understand why.
We stayed at Villa Marie St Barth in Colombier:
With this being our first time on the island we wanted to stay at a trusted, loved location that’s central to everything and that’s why we chose Villa Marie. It’s a boutique property with the other location being in St. Tropez. We were lucky enough to score a rate so we could write our review.
It’s situated atop one of the many hills near Colombier beach and has bungalows built all around the property with a pool in the center. The on-site restaurant is Francois Plantation run by chef Emmanuel Motte and the cuisine tasted just as amazing as we remember our trip to Provence.
// Where to eat in St. Barth
L’Isoletta is the more casual wing of local Italian haunt L’isola and after a couple nights of multiple course meals we loved the simplicity of the dishes. Get the fresh mozzarella and tomato salad, the pork and beef meatballs and the pasta pomodoro. Wash it all down with a Moretti, an espresso and a parting shot of limoncello.
Le Tamarin offers French Caribbean cuisine in a beautiful outdoor setting. There’s a giant old knotted tree centering the property and tons of turtles swimming and scooting around. You’ll love the cocktails, the shrimp ravioli with octopus and the mahi mahi. For dessert grab the petite four and pair them with the infused shots.
// Top Vacation Spots on St Barts
+ Shellona at Shell Beach offers amazing mediterranean fare and a beautiful beach made of shells. Shell Beach is easily one of the best Caribbean beaches both for its beauty, the people watching and the unique nature of having the shells.
+ Eden Rock, the hotel and beach club famous for hosting musicians and their live music sessions is currently being renovated, but just down the beach is Pearl Beach where we had an amazing time

Saint Barthélemy St. Barths Trip
Enjoy!
St.Martin/ St.Barths
Family vacation December 2018. St.Maarten is still a beautiful place to visit despite the hurricane. We also visited the beautiful island of St.Barths.
Discovering St Barths/Best Adventures in the Caribbean! Le Barthelemy Hotel and Spa
St. Barth’s has 22 beautiful beaches and loads of outdoor activities to reward the adventurous traveler. Rather than stress out about trying to get to each and every one, we suggest visiting the ones that are tops for swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, or bodysurfing, including Anse de Grande Saline, Baie de St.-Jean, and Grand Cul-de-Sac. You can also charter a wooden sailing yacht for a morning or afternoon excursion, watch the sunset in Lurin from one of the hilltop cafés, or simply sunbathe. All the beaches on St. Barth’s are open to the public.
The Caribbean island of St. Barthelemy—St. Barth's, as it's known—is beautiful, sexy, chic, and fun. The food is some of the best island fare in the world, and the French influence is impossible to miss (it's the official language, after all). The airport is tiny—no jets can fly into the short landing strip—and the residents seem to like it that way. You won't find hotel chains here; only small, charming boutique brands and villas offer accommodations.
Saint Barthélemy was for many years a French commune forming part of Guadeloupe, which is an overseas region and department of France. Through a referendum in 2003, island residents sought separation from the administrative jurisdiction of Guadeloupe, and it was finally accomplished in 2007. The island of Saint Barthélemy became an Overseas Collectivity (COM). A governing territorial council was elected for its administration, which has provided the island with a certain degree of autonomy. The Hotel de Ville, which was the town hall, is now the Hotel de la Collectivité. A senator represents the island in Paris. St. Barthélemy has retained its free port status.Saint Barthélemy ceased being an outermost region and left the EU, to become an OCT, on 1 January 2012.
The island sustained damage from Hurricane Irma in September 2017 but by March 2018, the airport was handling daily flights and the ferry between St. Martin and St. Barts was operating. Electricity and water had been restored; internet service and cell phone service were widely available. Some hotels were not yet open but most were expected to be operating by the fall of the year. The cruise ship port in Gustavia was operational.
Le Barthélemy is refined yet fresh, possessing a timeless elegance that is as alluring and restorative as its crescent-shaped beachfront. Here, we believe caring for our guests begins with a deep respect for their time and so we are passionate of this most precious asset, discreetly setting the stage for moments with family and friends, lovers and self that will always be remembered.
Le Spa at Le Barthélemy, is an oasis of serenity aimed at restoring the mind, body and spirit to its natural and most authentic self. More than simply a spa, this haven of holistic healing encapsulates all of the senses, beginning with its soothing Caribbean setting and open-air atrium that invites the outdoors in. Other amenities at Le Spa include a blow dry bar and a nail bar.
All are WELCOME in ST BARTH’S :)

St. Barts / Gustavia Tour | Pinoy vlog # 8
Have you ever watched those YouTube videos of crazy plane landings? It’s very likely you’ve seen the runway on St. Barths, one of the shortest in the world. The runway ends at the beach, meaning many a sunbather has an opportunity to watch newcomers land on the island.
Who knew so much beauty could be packed in such a small amount of space? At least that’s the case with St. Barths, one of the most breathtaking islands in the world. St. Barths isn’t very large, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in everything it offers.

The KUNDALINI SAILING starts from here to conquer the Caribbean.
THE STORY
¯̅¯̅¯̅¯̅¯̅¯̅¯̅¯̅¯̅
My affection for sailing started when I was a child. Once, when I was on holiday at Lake Balaton, near to Fonyod city, I glanced a slim and beautiful sailing boat emerging from behind the reeds. It was love at first sight! Unfortunately, as I grown up in the Great Plain of Hungary, I could not get near to sailing. Because of that, I was just staring at boats through my father’s binoculars, sitting on the shore during my holidays. It was a classic, heavy, black, Russian binocular. I was just walking around the boats in the harbour, looking at them, and making dreams.
I managed to get close to shipping in 2006. At that time I settled down with a 25 foot sailboat in the harbour of Balatonaliga. I have been dealing with shipping since that time. The usual inland adventures came after that: circling around Lake Balaton many times and mostly alone. Later Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Spain and France followed, and I even managed to sail in Norway, for two weeks. At the beginnings, I used to try to partner up with others. I kept my eyes open, made observations and learnt a lot. We used to participate in competitions at the Adriatic Sea, but all of these were not enough – maybe it is not the best word here – for me. Somehow it was not a complete thing… I wanted to sail alone… alone and a lot. Then some years alone came on the Mediterranean Sea. That was an amazing period in my life. I crossed the ocean two times. I went to the Caribbean, the Far East, and so on. I visited these places alone in most cases.
It became clear to me that I must deal with sailing… I had to find a boat suitable for taking a journey around the world, which has a higher comfort level compared to those ones I used before. I used to cross the ocean by a boat in which did not even have a bed … I slept on a large backwind sail. I know life is not easy. I could be at home, watching TV programs broadcasted by National Geographic or travel channels. That would be safe, but I prefer to face challenges of everyday life: I make things fixed, I do sewing, cooking, fishing and I am ready to stay up at night, to be soaked by rain and so on. I want to be here … where everything is so different. This way is everything is so fine and complete for me. Soon I will reach the 30,000th marine mile.
I found Kundalini in March of 2017. In April, I arrived with four suitcases (three of which contained tools) with my friend, Tomi on board and together we started performing those endless tasks, which have already been listed by that time. There is no part of the boat which would not have been polished, cut, replaced or painted in the five months. I know the boat well!
1st of September – almost ready to start the journey!
9th of September – my girlfriend and I left Athen by the Kundalini (BLOG). Journey has started! We reached Gibraltar through Greek, Albanian, Italian, French and Spanish waters and sailed to the ocean.
I am writing these lines in the port of Guadaloupe, Terre de Haut city. There is a great deal of memory of adventure, landscape, taste and experience behind our backs.
I feel that I have managed to build a boat which I was always craving for.
Travel with us and live the KUNDALINI feeling.
