How Leon, Iloilo Got Its Name Part 1
How Leon, Iloilo Got Its Name 1
When in Leon, Iloilo...mostly in Bucari :D
@18:30 till the end is our group story based on my POV :D
The Municipality of Leon was formerly known as Camando which was founded in the year 1730 with Mr. Bernabe Buncag as the Gobernadorcillo. In 1866, the town was transferred to Sitio Capan, a vast rice region. Two years after the town was transferred, the new town was given the name Leon.
There were two versions how the town was named: that it derived its name from the first name of one prominent member of the principalia, Capitan Leon and the other that the name Leon was given in honor of the City of Leon in Spain, the place where the then Parish Priest of the town, Fr. Agustin Castro, came from. The latter is the officially accepted version, however, the inhabitants retained their surnames beginning with letter C, which was given them through the order of Gov. Claveria in 1894, in lasting memory of the former town of Camando.
In 1905, during the American Regime, the Municip[alities of Leon, Alomodian and San miguel were fuser into one municipality with Leon as the seat of government under Mr. Evaristo Capalla. In 1915, the Catholic Parocial School of Saint Catherine was establish followed by Leon Institute, another secondary in 1918.
The period 1948-195q was a turbulent period in the history of the town when peace and order disturbed by dissidents. Despite these disturbances, the town leaders persevered and it was during this period when several public buildings were constructed. Among these were the Leon Elementary School and the Leon High School. Support infrastructure like bridges and farm to market roads were also established.
The Municipality of Leon has a prominent place in the annals of Ilonggo history. Records show that the only civil Resistance Movement that did not fall into the hands of the Japanese by the late Senator Tomas Confesor in the Bucari area on may 1947.
Bucari is a mildly popular tourist destination nestled in the mountains of Leon, Iloilo. It is known as the province’s “little Baguio” for its cool climate and highland attractions. Bucari is an excellent place to visit during the dry season since it offers an escape from the summer heat. Getting there takes at least two hours from Iloilo City. The road section from the outskirts of Leon town proper to Bucari largely remains a bumpy dirt road, which has limited it to the more adventurous. --

Let's talk about BAS-RELIEF in the Philippines
Bas-relief is considered by many as a dying art. In this video, ASPh rediscovers the said art form by having a panel discussion with Ar. Roy John De Guzman, painter Pia Soriano and sculptor Dexter Requiola. The three of them collaborated in producing a four bas-relief project for the prospective retablo mayor of Sta. Catalina de Alejandria Parish in Mambusao, Capiz, which they hope could revive the art of bas-relief in Philippine churches.
ASPh apologizes for the external noises in this video as the team could not control the environment during filming.

Carcar Dispensary Museum
When Charmz and I went to Carcar city we did not plan to go to the Carcar Dispensary Museum. We was there just to eat at Jolibee. But we did had the opportunity to learn a little history about Carcar. Now we know who was Leon Kilat and Don Mariano Mercado. It's a small city with big history.

Saint Catherine of Alexandria, or Saint Katharine of Alexandria, also known as Saint Catherine of the Wheel and The Great Martyr Saint Catherine (Coptic: Ⲙⲁⲅⲓⲁ Ⲕⲁⲧⲧⲣⲓⲛ; Greek: ἡ Ἁγία Αἰκατερίνη ἡ Μεγαλομάρτυς Holy Catherine the Great Martyr; Latin: Catharina Alexandrina), is, according to tradition, a Christian saint and virgin, who was martyred in the early 4th century at the hands of the pagan emperor Maxentius. According to her hagiography, she was both a princess and a noted scholar, who became a Christian around the age of 14, converted hundreds of people to Christianity, and was martyred around the age of 18. More than 1,100 years after Catherine's martyrdom, Joan of Arc identified her as one of the saints who appeared to and counselled her.

The Eastern Orthodox Church venerates her as a Great Martyr and celebrates her feast day on 24 or 25 November, depending on the regional tradition. In Catholicism she is traditionally revered as one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. In 1969 the Roman Catholic Church removed her feast day from the General Roman Calendar;[5] however, she continued to be commemorated in the Roman Martyrology on 25 November.[6] In 2002, her feast was restored to the General Roman Calendar as an optional memorial.

Incorruptibility is a Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox belief that divine intervention allows some human bodies (specifically saints and beati) to avoid the normal process of decomposition after death as a sign of their holiness.
