Church of England Weddings Are Declining
Just one in three of us are now choosing to get married in a church. Figures are falling so low that in 2012 only 30% of all weddings took place in a religious ceremony. But despite the falling numbers St Edburg’s church in Bicester has not been noticing a decline and has continued to welcome newly weds. Our reporter Kirstie Chambers went to meet the Rector at St Edburg’s and a couple from Newbury who are currently planning a church wedding.

Saint Eadburh or Eadburga (died June 15, 960) was the daughter of King Edward the Elder by his third marriage. She was a nun at, and possibly abbess of, Nunnaminster Abbey, Winchester. Following her canonisation in 972, her remains were buried at Pershore Abbey, which is dedicated to her. King Alfred was her grandfather. Sister was Eadgyth (Edith) whose bones in Magdeburg, Germany were recently DNA tested.
