Interior of St Eustachius' parish church, Tavistock, Devon, UK
The church was built by Abbot Robert Champeaux (1285-1324) and was dedicated in 1318.
By the middle of that century, the church had fallen into disrepair and the chancel was without a roof. By the end of the century, the church had been largely rebuilt in the Perpendicular style, although a few traces of the 1318 church remain.
In the fifteenth century, some further rebuilding work took place, the main addition being the Clothworkers' Aisle, funded by a bequest from Constance Coffyn, the widow of three wealthy wool merchants of Tavistock and completed in 1447.
Within are monuments to the Glanville and Fytz families
While riding on circuit, Sir John Glanville was killed when he fell off his horse, breaking his neck, on 27 July 1600. He was buried in Tavistock Church. His memorial is considered to be one of the finest church monuments in the West of England dating from the 17th century.
There is a stately monument in Tavistock Parish Church to John Fitz and his wife, he clothed in armour, which in life he probably never wore, as he was a man of the long robe. The effigies are recumbent, and by them is a smaller, kneeling figure of the son and heir their only child.

'Fields of Gold' Music & Lyrics by G M Sumner:
You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley.
You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky,
As we walk in fields of gold.
So she took her love, for to gaze awhile,
Upon the fields of barley.
In his arms she fell, as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold.
Will you stay with me, will you be my love,
Among the fields of barley?
We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky,
As we walk in fields of gold.
I never made promises lightly,
And there have been some that I've broken,
But I swear, in the days still left,
We'll walk in fields of gold, we will walk in fields of gold.
Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley.
See the children run as the sun goes down
Among the fields of gold.
I never made promises lightly,
And there have been some that I've broken,
But I swear ,in the days still left,
We'll walk in fields of gold, we will walk in fields of gold.
You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley.
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold.
When we walked in fields of gold, when we walked in fields of gold.

St Nectans Parish Church Hartland Devon England UK
While in Hartland with my daughter Penny, we decided to visit this very old church they have there, and this was a really nice church, one of the best i have ever been in.. Here is what is said about this church online... The Church of St Nectan is the parish church of Hartland, Devon, England. Sometimes referred to as the Cathedral of North Devon, it is located in the hamlet of Stoke, about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) west of the town of Hartland. It is dedicated to Saint Nectan.. Saint Nectan was one of many Celtic hermits and missionaries associated with early Christian sites in south-west Britain, South Wales and Ireland in the fifth and sixth centuries. A well 100 metres from the church is the reputed site of his hermitage.. The history of the area is obscure; however, the first recorded building here was a collegiate church served by twelve secular canons founded ca. 1050 by Gytha, Countess of Wessex (mother of King Harold). Traditionally the church was founded in thanksgiving for the preservation of her husband's life in a storm at sea; a better tradition associates her husband Godwin, Earl of Wessex and holder of the royal manor of Harton, with the foundation..Nothing is known of the earliest building nor whether it was rebuilt or enlarged when the collegiate church was replaced by a house of Augustinian regulars at Hartland Abbey in the twelfth century.. The current building, believed to date from 1360, replaced the earlier church on the site, of which only the font still remains and is thought to date from 1170. The 128 ft tower, rising in four stages, claimed to be the highest in Devon, has for centuries been a landmark to sailors at sea. It was built about sixty years after the rest of the church and it contains a peal of six bells, last rehung in 1952, weighing practically 3 tons. The arch of the tower, open today, once housed a musicians' gallery where the 'church orchestra' of fiddles, double bass, flute and clarinet played for services...

Graveyard Beauty - Cemeteries of Tavistock, Devon, UK.
Exploring old churches and cemeteries is something I love to do. Some find them morbid creepy places but I feel quite the opposite. Churches and graveyards can tell you so much about the social history of the local area, and older ones in particular are filled with beautiful monuments and memorials, and are also often a haven for wildlife and insects.
This is a film I took of two cemeteries in Tavistock, Devon.
The old Victorian cemetery.
The main cemetery which is still used for interment.
The memorial for Harry Rogers who was 19 when he lost his life in the Titanic disaster.
Apologies for the dodgy camera work. I filmed it on an iPhone which is a bit of a pain to hold steady.
I had to replace the audio as most of it was filled with wind and traffic noise, even through neither was that loud at the time of recording.
