More about the feast, church and statue
The cult towards this privilege of Our Lady is rooted in Sacred Scripture, but found, from the very start, good defence in the scholars of the Franciscan Order, led by John Duns Scotus, the Scottish philosopher and theologian who firmly endorsed in his teachings the already old devotion of the Immaculate Conception. The Conventuals continued to spread the devotion wherever they built their convents and churches, and this is probably what happened also in Gozo, where they owned one of the oldest religious houses on the small island.
With the erection of the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception, in the late seventeenth century the church of St Francis at Victoria grew into a centre of devotion to the Blessed Virgin.
The feast organised by the Conventual friars in Victoria became ever more popular. In 1848, six years before Pope Pius IX declared the Immaculate Conception a dogmatic teaching of the universal Catholic Church, the friars commissioned Salvatore Psaila, from Cospicua, a new statue of the Immaculate to replace an older one which, even if not so artistic, was one of the oldest processional statues on the island. Psaila came out with a purely Baroque work of art which became one of the most beautiful processional statues ever seen in Malta. The expression of the statue evokes a heavenly touch which leaves all spectators impressed with its artistic beauty, inviting the faithful to fervent prayer and piety.
It was only natural that, almost since its legal creation, the La Stella Philharmonic Band was invited to participate in the external festivities celebrated on December 7 and 8.
This year, like the previous years, the Laudate Pueri choir of St Georges Basilica sang at the main celebrations of the solemnity. Moreover, the Schola Cantorum of the Basilica animated the Triduum Masses.
Gozo's history and that of the Immaculate Conception feast are linked in many other ways. So, with pride, St George parish community celebrates December 8, honouring the beauty of Mary, the Morning Star of Gods True Light, and welcoming her statue inside its square.

~MALTA~ GOZO Rabat St George's Basilica Bells
The beautiful bells of St George's Basilica in the city of Rabat on the island of Gozo in Malta. In this basilica you can find 5 bells cast by Prospero Barigozzi in 1925. In Malta bellringing is a major part of the religious traditions and are rung on solemn feasts of the Liturgical calendar. In Malta traditionally bells are not swinging but rung manually with by swinging the clapper to both sides of the bell.

Mosta Rotunda - Malta
Mosta Rotunda - MaltaThe Church of the Assumption of Our Lady, commonly known as the Rotunda of Mosta or Rotunda of St Marija Assunta (sometimes shortened to as The Mosta Dome) is a Roman Catholic church in Mosta, Malta. It is the fourth largest unsupported dome in the world and the third largest in Europe.
On April 9, 1942, during an afternoon air-raid, a 200 kg Luftwaffe bomb pierced the dome (two others bounced off) and fell among a congregation of more than 300 people awaiting early evening mass. It did not explode. Its replica is now on display inside the rotunda under the words Il-Miraklu tal-Bomba. The Bomb Miracle.

MDINA MALTA | A look around the Church of the Annunciation
MDINA MALTA - A look around the Church of the Annunciation in the silent city of Mdina in Malta.
The Church Of The Annunciation in Mdina, Malta was completed in 1675
Records mention that on the site of the present church, stood another church dedicated to the Nativity of Mary.
Other sources mention that the chapel was dedicated to the Virgin of the Rocks.
The chapel and the surrounding area was given to the Carmelites in the 1650s.
The church was built between 1660 and 1675 on the designs of Mederico Blondel des Croisettes.
After the earthquake of 1693 which destroyed many important buildings, notably the medieval cathedral of St Paul, the cathedral chapter moved to the Carmelite church until 1702 when the new cathedral was rebuilt. Moreover, the church also served as the parish church during this time
The Church of the Annunciation also known as The Carmelite Church is a rich Baroque priory church of the Priory of Our Lady of Mount Carmel located in Mdina, Malta.
Mdina The Silent City in Malta is a huge walled city that was the old capital city of Malta. It's historic streets and Mdina Cathedral are an absolute must visit if you're on holiday in Malta.
The famous and popular TV show GAME OF THRONES was filmed in MDINA The Silent City during season one.
I thought I'd just film a walk through Mdina through the streets of the Silent City so you can see what this amazing Malta tourist attraction is like before you holiday here.

Mdina (English: Notabile, or Maltese: L-Imdina [lɪmˈdɪnɐ]; Phoenician: Melitta, Ancient Greek: Μελίττη Melíttē, Arabic: مدينة Madinah, Italian: Medina), also known by its titles Città Vecchia or Città Notabile, is a fortified city in the Northern Region of Malta, which served as the island's capital from antiquity to the medieval period.
The city of Mdina is still confined within its walls, and has a population of just under 300, but it is contiguous with the town of Rabat, which takes its name from the Arabic word for suburb, and has a population of over 11,000
It's free to wander the streets and there are small charges or totally free entry to most attractions if you take a trip to this great silent city.
You may recognise some of the streets in Mdina from being shown in popular TV show GAME OF THRONES which filmed scenes in Malta so you'll find plenty of filming locations here where Game Of Thrones was filmed.
I filmed this short Malta walk in 2018.
The history of The Silent City of Mdina traces back more than 4000 years. According to tradition it was here that in 60 A.D. that the Apostle St. Paul is said to have lived after being shipwrecked on the Islands. Furthermore it is said that St. Paul resided inside the grotto know as Fuori le Mura (outside the city walls) now known as St. Paul's Grotto in Rabat. Lamp lit by night and referred to as the silent city, Mdina is fascinating to visit for its timeless atmosphere as well as its cultural and religious treasures.
This is the Malta Silent City and looks amazing as you walk around the historic streets that feel the same as they did when they were first built.
Game Of Thrones is filmed a lot in Malta and there are Game Of Thrones Filming locations all over the island including at Mdina The Silent City which fans of the tv show will recognise instantly.

catholic cathedral... Valletta, Malta (Southern Europe)
Our Lady of Victories Church - Valletta, Malta
The Our Lady of Victories Church was the first church and building completed in Valletta, Malta. In 1566, following the Great Siege of Malta, Grand Master Jean Parisot de Valette and his Order showed interest to build a church in the name of the Nativity of the Virgin as a form of thanksgiving; the construction was funded by De Valette.
The church was built to commemorate the victory of the Knights of the Order of St John and the Maltese over the Ottoman invaders on 8 September 1565.
A Maltese Whistle blowing priest Victor Buhagiar - EXPOSES the Roman C Church Child Sexual Abuse
THE CHURCH OF SATAN IN ROME the Roman Catholic Church Continues to be EXPOSED by the LORD, using Victor Buhagiar a Roman catholic priest from Malta living in Australia who could not continue being a priest ...
I saw the Archbishop and I heard the Archbishop telling the secretary to turn off the recorder, Buhagiar said.
For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad. - Luke 8:17
It's the Royal Commission thousands of child sex abuse victims have wanted for decades - a chance to finally expose the truth through investigating institutions like the Catholic Church.
But one man fears criminal clergy will carry on undetected, claiming the Victorian Archdiocese is determined to keep its sordid secrets buried.
Victor Buhagiar has recently quit his post as a Catholic priest, walking away from the faith after 12 years leading parishes across Victoria.
Buhagiar claims it has became impossible to continue after he found out the Church was deleting records relating to child sexual abuse.
I saw the Archbishop and I heard the Archbishop telling the secretary to turn off the recorder, Buhagiar said.
Alarm bells first began to ring for Buhagiar at a council meeting of the state's most powerful priests last April.
As soon as the recording was turned off, the Archbishop started talking about the sex abuse situation, Buhagiar said.
According to Buhagiar, the Archbishop Denis Hart went on to discuss two priests who he'd suspended but there was no mention of their names or any details to reveal their identities.
After that meeting I made enquiries as to why the recorder was turned off at that particular moment. Again, whoever I asked said to me, I do not remember, when I pushed, they said so that no names are mentioned, Buhagiar said.
I suspect the recorder was turned off to minimise the possibility of investigators finding evidence that can be useful to the inquiry, or to the Royal Commission; to create like a black hole, an empty space that when the investigators try to see how the situation evolved during the last 10 years or so, they seem to find nothing.
Veteran journalist and anti-child abuse advocate, Derryn Hinch says if in fact they have been turning off tape recorders while they're discussing sex abuse then that should come out.
They know the records that the Royal Commission will want and it's in their interest, their self-preservation to get rid of it. The only thing that's going to help is if priests like the one who's come forward now, they keep coming forward, Hinch added.
Buhagiar's concerns about the Church's 'no names' policy deepened when he called the Victorian Archdiocese to report a man in his parish who'd volunteered but failed the working with children check.
He wanted an alert sent to other parishes, to warn them of the potentially dangerous man in their midst but Buhagiar's request was flatly refused.
The secretary told me we cannot do that because we have a policy of no names. If I don't put the name of the person, how are the other priests going to know who I'm talking about? Buhagiar said.
This internal policy completely contradicts the Church's public push for mandatory reporting and transparency which is plastered all over its website 'Facing the Truth' - so too its stance to the Royal Commission.
'David' was just 13 when convicted paedophile priest Terry Pidoto took him to a seminary and sexually abused him.
Despite the public statements they're not for the victims they are only out for their reputation, said David.
Sadly these latest claims come as no surprise.
I was raped as a young boy and then I was re-offended when I came forward; I had a psychiatrist diagnose that I in fact had been institutional abuse by the way they treated me and I am not alone, David said.

STORYLINE
People on the Maltese island of Gozo on Saturday defended a native priest accused of molesting former U.S. Congressman Mark Foley when he was a boy, describing him as a very good man.
The Rev. Anthony Mercieca, who is retired and lives on the island, was quoted by media in Florida this week as saying that he fondled former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley and was nude with him on several occasions while serving in a parish in the state in the 1960s.
Joseph Borge, a neighbour of Mercieca, claimed the allegations were a way of deflecting attention away from accusations made against Foley himself.
Foley now is stuck and he is alcoholic too. He wants to divert something to here, he claimed.
Foley, a 52-year-old Florida Republican, resigned from Congress last month after the release of his sexually explicit computer messages to teenage male interns.
Mercieca, 69, does not serve in any parish in conservative, predominantly Catholic Malta. However, he regularly celebrates Mass and hears confession in the cathedral, one of two main churches on the island.
Neighbours said Mercieca had been raised in a deeply religious household, where three of four brothers grew up to become priests.
Anton Gauci, Monsegneur of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Assumption, said Mercieca was very good man, a man who cares for souls, and added that we pray to God to assist both sides.
Antonia Pace, a neighbour, described the priest as a shy, respectful man who hesitated to approach people.
On Wednesday, Mercieca told the Sarasota Herald-Tribune by telephone that he had massaged Foley as a boy in the nude, was naked in the same room on overnight trips with him and had gone skinny dipping with him.
On Thursday, he told the AP that he was naked in a sauna with Foley and told WPTV of West Palm Beach, Florida, that he touched Foley once, maybe.
In all the interviews, he denied having sexual intercourse with Foley.
Mercieca had worked at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lake Worth, Florida, in 1967, according to church records.
Foley would have been 13 at the time.

St. Lawrence's Church
This is the oldest church in Malta. It is said that it was a gift from Count Roger the Norman, when he came to Malta in 1090. In its present style it was built in the 17th century and designed by the Maltese architect Lorenzo Gafa, who also designed the Cathedral in Mdina and the Cathedral in Gozo.
This church is built in Baroque style and is in the shape of a Latin cross. The columns are of a very beautiful pinkish colored marble and on each column one can see the eight-pointed cross.
The Knights of the Order of St John used the parish church of St Lawrence as their Convent Church.
