Jane Austen House Museum, Chawton, England. Full Tour.
Jane Austen is one of England’s greatest writers, her novels are appreciated around the world and frequently adapted for film and tv. The Jane Austen House Museum lovingly preserves the house where she spent the last eight years of her life. My film takes you on a full tour around Jane Austen’s cottage.
Jane was born in Hampshire in 1775. She was the daughter of a rector and one of 8 children. The family moved to Bath in 1801. After the death of her father, Jane, her mother and sister returned to Hampshire, to live at Chawton cottage.
The years that Jane spent at Chawton cottage were happy and rewarding creatively, she wrote and published the novel Emma and completed 3 further novels including Pride & Prejudice.
Chawton Cottage is located in the tranquil Hampshire English village of Chawton. Today visitors enter through the courtyard. Visitors may sit and relax in the peaceful garden or watch an informative film in the summer house. After enjoying the garden enter the main house:
The Drawing Room - Jane’s father, George Austen, encouraged learning and creative thinking. On display in this room is the Mahogany bookcase from which he would have encouraged Jane to read. Early every morning Jane enjoyed practising playing the piano in this room.In the evening Jane would sit with her mother and sister and they would read and do needlework.
The Dining Room - This is the room where Jane would write. Pride of place on display is the table where Jane sat and wrote her novels. She wrote every day, sitting by the window for light. She was very modest about her writing and during her lifetime Jane’s works were published anonymously.
The Austen Family Room - This room was Mrs Austen snr’s bedroom but now houses a collection of family artefacts, portraits and items of furniture.
Jane’s Bedroom - This small room, overlooking the courtyard, is the one which Jane shared with her sister Cassandra. Here Jane would read to her sister the novels that she was writing. The room contains a replica of Jane’s bed. Jane’s health faded early in 1816, it is believed that she suffered from Addisons disease. In the latter weeks of her life she was confined to bed. In May of that year she was taken to Winchester to be treated but sadly passed away on the 18 July.
The Admiral’s Room - Two of Jane’s brothers had successful careers in the navy and the room houses memorabilia linked to the brothers’ lives in the navy.
The Exhibits Room - Here among the items on display are Jane’s gold ring set with a turquoise stone. Also on display is a quilt expertly sewn by Jane. The quilt is made from approximately 250 diamond shaped segments.
Handy to know - Allow 1 ½ hours for your visit, but you are allowed to stay as long as you wish. Tours are not provided.
Jane Austen’s House Museum is located at Winchester Road, Chawton, Hampshire, GU34 1SD. The museum is open 7 days a week February – December. Open 10 – 5pm June to August.
10.30am – 4.30pm the rest of the year. Tickets purchased are valid for 12 months.
Jane’s sister and mother are buried in the churchyard of the church close to Chawton great house, so if you are interested take a short walk to the nearby church.
Food: The museum does not have a restaurant but there is a tea room, a pub opposite for refreshments and at Chawton House, once owned by Jane’s brother, Edward.
Parking: There is a car park opposite Chawton cottage (recommended) and on street parking is possible.

both team have been working together, on the hunter for Michael Morey, legend says that he killed his grandson, now what is unsure was it because James did not bring his grand fathers dinner in time or was it because the boy had come into some money. also what was unsure at the time was he killed and left in the house and the Michal burnt the house down or did Michal move his body to a cave....Michael Morey was tried at Winchester after being imprisoned for some time and then he was sentenced to death and was hung....after he was hung he was brought back to the island to be placed in a gibbet on a hump(Saxon burial ground) so he be shamed ....later on the body of the boy was found but they only new it was him, because Mrs Dove recognised the clothes as she had made them for him......
It is said that if you walk around the hump 12 times and then say his name 3 times at midnight Michal Morey will show him self.

Abingdon's Bun Throwing - 29th April 2011
A traditional Abingdon Bun Throwing on 29th April 2011 to celebrate the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton. This 250 year old tradition in the town has local dignitaries throw buns from the roof of the Abingdon County Hall Museum for crowds assembled in the market square below on specific days of celebration (such as royal marriages, coronations and jubilees). The first recorded bun throwing was in 1760. An account by John Waite tells how he managed to catch a cake thrown from the Market House (County Hall) during celebrations at the Coronation of King George III.

Fullers New Bottle Introduction
Date: April 29, 2013 - New-look bottle for Fuller's ales
Following a comprehensive year-long project, London brewer Fuller, Smith & Turner (Fuller's) has unveiled a completely new design for its Premium Bottled Ales portfolio.
Ian Bray, Managing Director of The Fuller's Beer Company said: The very first new-look bottles of London Pride came off the line recently and are beginning to make their way out into the trade. We think they look fantastic and our customers and consumers should begin to see them appear on the shelves of supermarkets, off licences and pubs by early May.
The first thing you will notice is the shape. We have changed to a sleeker, taller-looking design, although it is actually only 1mm taller than the old bottle. The label has been placed higher up to ensure that the brand stands head and shoulders above our competitors. The bottle also includes an embossed outline of the River Thames, the majestic heartbeat of London, on the banks of which our beers are crafted. We took some of our cues from the world of wine, so we think the new bottle is equally at home on the dining table as it is on the bar.
The decision to change the existing bottle was not taken lightly, as it had done a fantastic job for us in its current guise for around 20 years. However, with single bottle purchases the largest sales format in the off-trade, stand-out on shelf has become critically important.
To that end, we have also taken the opportunity to refresh the London Pride label, with a more modern look which will eventually translate into other pack formats, including draught. The London Pride badge is instantly recognisable to beer drinkers around the world so this new evolution retains all of the most important elements, including the shape of the shield.
New labels have also been created for our entire portfolio of Premium Bottled Ales so look out for the new-look Fuller's bottle range in the coming months.
