Remembering the Bombing of Bangued
The town of Bangued was razed to the ground on March 10, 1945 at exactly 1 o'clock in the afternoon. Many houses were destroyed; many lives were lost. Roughly three thousand to four thousand people were killed in the whole province of Abra.
Please pause for a moment and say a little prayer for the lives who were cut short on that fateful day.
To those brave men and women who fought the war, those who lost their lives and those who survived and never lost hope, we remember you. Your memories and stories will never be forgotten.

Bangued: Your Ultimate Online Guide
As the site turns a year older this August, we'd like to thank those people who regularly visit the site; those who have supported our goals from the start (and we hope they will til the end); those people we have interviewed (and we'll interview in the future); the countless persons who have viewed us here on YouTube, Multiply, Friendster and Flickr; those who have added us on Friendster and Multiply; those who have linked us through their blogs; and to all who in one way or another have helped us...Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
We hope for more years of stories, pictures and videos about our beautiful province.
Conversations with Samuel Dapapa
Samuel Dupan Dapapa, though he was born in Kalinga, is a proud Abrenian. He is a retired teacher who has already received two national awards, the Presidential Award and the Datu Sibug Award, both in recognition for his outstanding service rendered to the indigenous people.
In this first edition of Conversations, Samuel or Sami as he is fondly called, talks about one of his soon-to-be-published books and reminds us the importance of knowing and learning from our past.

Borokibok Springs
Borokibok, or sometimes Borikibok has been a household name for my friends. Since we couldn't afford to go to a fancy beach resort because of our number (one truckful), we would usually end up spending our post-highschool summer vacation in Bucay's hidden natural gem, the Borokibok Springs.
Anyhow, I don't know if the local government implements any environmental protection law in the area. The last time I visited it, some people still bathe in the natural springs liberally using soap and shampoo. Obviously, soap and shampoo contain chemicals that can greatly affect our rivers and its aquatic wildlife. Worse, others leave garbages such as empty shampoo sachets, candy wrappers and even sanitary napkins. Ay, apo!
The Sleeping Beauty
Bangued's breathtaking backdrop, Bantay Bullagao or locally known as the Sleeping Beauty.
Victoria Park
Located at the top of Casamata Hill National Park, Victoria Park affords a 360-degree view of downtown Bangued, nearby barangays and towns. Seen from any vantage point in the town is the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Infant Jesus or collectively known as Our Lady of Peace and Victory, one of the park's features.

In Memory of the 21 Martyrs
On November 16, 1943, 21 servicemen were burned alive by the Japanese soldiers at a bamboo house in Angad, Bangued.
A monument dedicated to them used to sit at the western side of the basketball court of Bangued Town Plaza. Unfortunately, the past administration removed it some years ago.
Though we were unable to locate where that monument is now, we hope this video will immortalize the 21 soldiers' supreme sacrifice, bravery and selflessness.
Santacruzan: A Lost Tradition?
When was the last time your barangay held a Santacruzan?
Unfortunately in Bangued, the tradition is fast becoming a thing of the past. No longer are there babbalasangs ken balasitangs looking forward for their first Santacruzans.
I remember asking my cousin why we no longer see Santacruzans these past few years and she jokingly said, Baka natay amin nga bab-baketen. (Maybe all the old women have long been dead.) Hmm, maybe she was right.
But I'm no pessimist. I'll continue to daydream and look forward for that summer when barangay fiestas usually have paradas during the day and Santacruzans past dinnertime.
This video footage was taken in 2001 during Zone 3's Barangay Fiesta. I believe it was one of the last Santacruzans held in Bangued for the last five years.
