St. Michael's Catholic Church School Academy Town Peshawar Visit(SNS)
St. Michael's Church School belongs to St. Michael's Parish 36 The Mall Peshawar Cantt which is the oldest Parish in the Islamabad-Rawalpindi diocese. The school is situated at a distance of 8 kilometers from the main Parish Church. There are 215 Christian Children in the School. As the school is located in the remote area of distract Peshawar there are Christian families who are unable to admit there children schools located in urban area because of some major problems.
This school has been built in 1989 by the Parish Priest of that time Rev. Father Leonard Steger MHM. Later on due to parish engagements the priest was unable to run the school. Therefore he asked the assistance of the sisters of the parish. Sisters were agreed and took over the responsibility of looking after the school not fully but as of their branch school. Due to some problems they gave up the school and closed it in June 2011.
By closing this school peoples of academy town suffered a lot as there is no other Christian school in that area and that is why people have given up education of their children.
The school has been closed completely in June 2011 due to following problems.
1. Lack of funds
2. Lack of classrooms
3. Lack of furniture
Though same problems are there which caused the closing of school I have taken the initiative to reopen the school for the children of our Christian community.
These families are living from hand to mouth therefore they cannot bear extra expense like transportation. As far as the children of Christians have no accesses to learn basic catechism.
