St. John the Baptist Church, Honiley, Warwickshire, U.K.
Hymn - 'Make me a channel of your peace', sung by Jed Deadlock.
The church is unusual in that it is carpeted, and has extendable pews, and during the course of it's life it has not been structurally modified, as was the trend in the Victorian period, as a result the general fabric of the church inside and out is original. The stained glass windows were added after 1923 upon the death of Herbert Louis Wade J.P. Lord of the Manor.Theodora Salusbury (1875-1956) was a noted Leicestershire born stained glass artist. She studied at the Central School of Arts & Crafts in London circa 1910, and after set up her own studio in Kensington, London. She undertook the design and painting of her windows by herself but had Lowndes & Drury of The Glass House (Fulham) do the firing and glazing. Between the wars her studio was relocated to St Agnes, Cornwall. Her work is often identifiable by her use of a peacock as her maker's mark. Much of her work is in Leicestershire.

England 2019 Episode 07: Peterborough
Along with the cathedrals in Durham and Ely, Peterborough Cathedral is one of the most important 12th c. buildings in England. It is dedicated to Saint Peter, after whom the town is also named and whose statue looks down from the peak of the remarkable Early English Gothic west facade.
The painted ceiling, completed between 1230-1250, is unique in Britain and one of only four such ceilings in the whole of Europe. Unlike the ceiling in Ely Cathedral which was purely a Victorian creation, Peterborough's ceiling is authentically a 13th c. design which has been faithfully restored twice over the centuries. The wonderful fan vaulting in the cathedral's new section dates to circa 1500.
Henry VIII's former wife, Katherine of Aragon, was buried here in 1536. Her grave is still honored by visitors who decorate it with flowers and pomegranates, Katherine's symbol. Her tomb carries the designation Queen of England, a title she was denied at the time of her death. The original tomb was destroyed during the English Civil War but Katherine's body was left undisturbed. Then in 1893, a newspaper invited all of its readers named Katherine to each donate a penny which paid for the marble slab we see today.
Behind the altar is the Hedda Stone, one of the oldest relics in the church. This rustic carving dates back to the Anglo-Saxon monastery which occupied this site long before the Norman church was built. Founded in 655, the monastic settlement was one of the first centers of Christianity in central England and lasted a little over 200 years until it was destroyed by Vikings. The carvings depict 12 figures, 6 on each side, probably representing Christ and various early saints.
Peterborough's market square is located a short distance west of the cathedral, presided over by the medieval Guild Hall and the 15th c. St John the Baptist Parish Church.
A couple items in the photo montage at the end of the video merit further explanation...
The medieval monks of Peterborough Abbey had to keep track of time in order to observe the various services dictated by the Rule of Saint Benedict. Accordingly they constructed a clock mechanism which dates to circa 1450. It lacks a typical clock face but chimed every half hour. The contraption was modified several times over the centuries and continued in use until 1950, finally being retired on its 500th anniversary.
At the end of the video is a portrait of Old Scarlett, the cathedral sexton and gravedigger who buried Katharine of Aragon in 1536, as well as Mary Queen of Scots in 1587. He also laid to rest multiple generations from every household in Peterborough in the course of his 98 year lifespan (1496 - 1594). It is rare that a commoner would be memorialized inside a cathedral, but Peterborough made an exception for this beloved local character. His portrait shows him holding his shovel and keys.

Church of St. John the Baptist has a late-baroque origin (1758 -- 1771). The interior has the original furnishings with rich woodcarving decorations, including altars and confessionals dating back to the 1770's. Beginning in 1773 and for the following ten years the cloister was constructed as an annex to the church. Originally, it was the home of the members of the Order of the Reformati and then it was turned into a theological seminary. Kościół pw. św. Jana Chrzciciela w Płocku.
Axbridge, St John The Baptist, Part 8, March 2011.wmv
A Magnificent and majestic church in a very old and medieval village of Axbridge where the King John Hunting Lodge can be seen--a free museum open from Easter. This church and its village is steeped in history and is nestled on the edge of the Mendip hills in Somerset and very near to the village of Cheddar and its Gorge. The church really has a splendid ceiling.
