Venice, Italy: St. Mark's Basilica
More info about travel to Venice: Among Europe's churches, the Byzantine marvel of St. Mark's stands alone. After the saint's remains were smuggled here in 828, Venice took his symbol (the winged lion) as their own. Built with pillaged materials, some describe the church's eclectic style as Early Ransack. The outside is a riot of domes, columns, and statues; the interior is covered with mosaics, colored marbles, and oriental treasures.

GREAT VIEW OF VENICE, ITALY FROM ST. MARK'S CAMPANILE!
One of the best views of Venice, Italy is from the top of the St. Mark's Campanile, also known as the Campanile di San Marco or St. Mark's Bell Tower. From here, you can see pretty much all the major highlights of Venice including St. Mark's Square, Riva Degli Schiavoni, San Giorgio Maggiore, Doge's Palace, Santa Maria della Salute, and a lot more. I'm not particularly thrilled with heights but with this view, I'll make an exception!

The tower is 98.6 metres (323 ft) tall, and stands alone in a corner of St Mark's Square, near the front of the basilica. The campanile reached its present form in 1514. The current tower was reconstructed in its present form in 1912 after the collapse of 1902.

Travel Venice, Italy - Visit St Mark's Campanile in Venice
Take a tour of St Mark's Campanile in Venice, Italy -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Standing a towering 323 feet, far above the rest of Venice, Italy is St. Mark's Campanile.
This iconic bell tower is a city treasure as well as an infamous landmark.
It is a separate structure from, though associated with, the nearby St. Mark's Basilica.
The weather vane at the peak is crafted in the shape of the archangel Gabriel.
The tower is a simple fluted structure of red brick whose elegance creates a magnanimous focal point in Venice.
St. Mark's Campanile faced destruction in the early 20th century, but was immediately reconstructed, a testament to its importance to Venetians.

Venice: St. Mark's Basilica under water in worst flooding in 50 years | DW News
In Italy, Venice's Mayor Luigi Brugnaro is blaming climate change for the worst flooding in more than 50 years. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has called the flooding a blow to the heart of Italy, and the Italian cabinet is set to declare a state of emergency. The flooding has brought calls for more to be done to protect the historic city from the ravages of rising sea levels. Construction on an underwater sea barrier, known as the 'Mose,' started in 2003. So why hasn't it been finished?

VENICE: St Mark's Square / Piazza San Marco [HD]
PIAZZA SAN MARCO, known in English as St Mark's Square, is the principal public square of Venice, where it is generally known just as the Piazza. All other urban spaces in the city (except the Piazzetta San Marco and the Piazzale Roma) are called campi (fields).
Basilica di San Marco / St Mark's Basilica
is the most famous of the city's churches and one of the best known examples of Byzantine architecture. Originally it was the chapel of the Doge's, and has only been the city's cathedral since 1807, when it became the seat of the Patriarch of Venice.
Campanile di San Marco / St Mark's Campanile
is the bell tower of St Mark's Basilica, one of the most recognizable symbols of the city.
Torre dell'Orologio / St Mark's Clock Tower
Both the tower and the clock date from the last decade of the 15th century, though the mechanism of the clock has subsequently been much altered. To the right of the clock-tower is the closed church of San Basso.
The Procuratie (literally, procuracies) are three connected buildings on St Mark's Square in Venice. They are historic buildings over arcades, the last of them completed, to finish off the square, under Napoleon's occupation. They were built in the early 16th century, formerly the homes and offices of the Procurators of St. Mark, high officers of state in the days of the republic of Venice.
______________________
PIAZZETTA DI SAN MARCO is (strictly speaking) not part of the Piazza but an adjoining open space connecting the south side of the Piazza to the waterway of the lagoon.
Palazzo Ducale / Doge's Palace
was the residence of the Doge of Venice, the supreme authority of the Republic of Venice, opening as a museum in 1923.
Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana / National Library of St Mark's
is one of the earliest surviving public manuscript depositories in the country, holding one of the greatest classical texts collections in the world. The library was provided with a building designed by Jacopo Sansovino. Building started in 1537 and it was extended, after the death of Sansovino, by Vincenzo Scamozzi in 1588/91.
Two large granite columns carry symbols of the two patron saints of Venice. The first is Saint Theodore, who was the patron of the city before St Mark, holding a spear and with a crocodile to represent the dragon which he was said to have slain. This is made up of parts of antique statues and is a copy (the original is kept in the Doges Palace). The second (eastern) column has a creature representing a winged lion — the Lion of Venice — which is the symbol of St Mark.

Due to a copyright claim (that blocked the video), the first song 'Meet You in Heaven' by Armik, was replaced by 'Klama' by Massimo Ferrante.
Views from St Mark's Bell Tower over Venice
We are visiting Venice for the day as part of our Travel Department all in package. We queued up at St Mark's Bell Tower to see the superb views over the city. At 8 Euro it is well worth the wait. You ascend by lift.
The initial 9th-century construction, initiated during the reign of Pietro Tribuno and built on Roman foundations, was used as a watch tower or lighthouse for the dock, which then occupied a substantial part of the area which is now the Piazzetta.
St Mark's Campanile (Campanile di San Marco in Italian) is the bell tower of St Mark's Basilica in Venice, Italy, located in the Piazza San Marco. It is one of the most recognizable symbols of the city.
The tower is 98.6 metres (323 ft) tall, and stands alone in a corner of St Mark's Square, near the front of the basilica. It has a simple form, the bulk of which is a fluted brick square shaft, 12 metres (39 ft) wide on each side and 50 metres (160 ft) tall, above which is a loggia surrounding the belfry, housing five bells. The belfry is topped by a cube, alternate faces of which show the Lion of St. Mark and the female representation of Venice (la Giustizia: Justice). The tower is capped by a pyramidal spire, at the top of which sits a golden weathervane in the form of the archangel Gabriel. The campanile reached its present form in 1514. The current tower was reconstructed in its present form in 1912 after the collapse of 1902

St Mark's Campanile (Bell Tower), Piazza San Marco, Venice
St Mark's Campanile is the bell tower of St Mark's Basilica in Venice, located on Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square). It's one of the iconic architectural features and landmarks of the city.
Venice: A Tour - Italy Day 3 - Grand Canal, St. Mark's Square & Basilica, Santa Lucia Station
This is Venice: a Tour, on Day 3 of our 12 day journey across northern and central Italy. Venice is a city of water, built on more than a hundred islands, with bridges, but no roads. Today we arrive in this medieval city in a lagoon, ride a boat the length of the Grand Canal, find ourselves a great hotel, feed pigeons in front of St. Mark’s Basilica, ascend to the top of the Campanile bell tower for a great view over the red-brown roofs, cruise around the island city at sunset, and listen to dueling orchestras in St. Mark’s Square after dark.
VENICE, MYSTERIOUS 3rd century BYZANTINE SCULPTURE in ST MARK'S BASILICA ⛪ (ITALY)
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's view the very curious 'The Portrait of the Four Tetrarchs' which is a porphyry sculpture group of four Roman emperors dating from around 300 AD. Since the Middle Ages it has been fixed to a corner of the façade of St Mark's Basilica in Venice, Italy. It probably originally formed part of the decorations of the Philadelphion in Constantinople, and was removed to Venice in 1204 or soon after.
Venice, the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals – including the Grand Canal thoroughfare – lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. The central square, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark’s Basilica, which is tiled with Byzantine mosaics, and the Campanile bell tower offering views of the city’s red roofs.
Italy, a European country with a long Mediterranean coastline, has left a powerful mark on Western culture and cuisine. Its capital, Rome, is home to the Vatican as well as landmark art and ancient ruins. Other major cities include Florence, with Renaissance masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s David and Brunelleschi's Duomo; Venice, the city of canals; and Milan, Italy’s fashion capital.

STUNNING INTERIOR OF ST. MARK'S BASILICA: CHURCH OF GOLD!
When you first see the stunning interior of St. Mark's Basilica (Basilica di San Marco), you are in awe of the eight centuries of golden mosaics. In fact, there are over 85,000 square feet of mosaics. When you look up, you will see the five main cupolas or domes which are also richly decorated with these religious mosaics, but when you look down, you will also see the beautiful intricate marble inlaid floor. When you visit the St. Mark's Basilica Treasury (8:20), you will find hundreds of gold and silver relics, mostly taken from Constantinople in 1204 after the Fourth Crusade. A very busy St Mark's Square Basilica and Campanile Venice
This is St Mark's Square along with St Mark's Basilica and St Mark's Campanile or bell tower. I found being amongst so many people in the heat a wee bit difficult.
