Cape Town is a port city on South Africa’s southwest coast, on a peninsula beneath the imposing Table Mountain. Slowly rotating cable cars climb to the mountain’s flat top, from which there are sweeping views of the city, the busy harbor and boats heading for Robben Island, the notorious prison that once held Nelson Mandela, which is now a living museum.

Archbishop Tutu celebrates his 85th birthday
(7 Oct 2016) A frail Desmond Tutu celebrated his 85th birthday with his former congregation at St George's Cathedral in Cape Town early on Friday morning.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and Archbishop Emeritus, who has had health problems recently, was moved to tears when he thanked his family and those who came to celebrate the day with him.
President Jacob Zuma marked Tutu's birthday on Friday, saying the former archbishop made big contributions to South African democracy, which followed the end of white minority rule in 1994.
In a statement, Zuma said Tutu continued to inspire through his promotion of human rights and the welfare of all, particularly the poor.
Tutu was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for his peaceful campaign against apartheid.
Tutu has been hospitalised several times since last year because of infections linked to past treatment for prostate cancer.
