Brampton is a small market town, civil parish and electoral ward within the City of Carlisle district of Cumbria, England, about 9 miles east of Carlisle and 2 miles south of Hadrian's Wall. Historically part of Cumberland, it is situated off the A69 road which bypasses it. Brampton railway station, on the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway, is about a mile outside the town, near the hamlet of Milton.
St Martin's Church is famous as the only church designed by the Pre-Raphaelite architect Philip Webb, and contains one of the most exquisite sets of stained glass windows designed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones, and executed in the William Morris studio. Brampton was granted a Market Charter in 1252 by King Henry III, and became a market town as a result.
William Howard School was host to Brampton Live every summer, an ever-growing music festival that, since its first appearance in 1995, become the largest folk/roots/world music festival in the North of England. Major artists have included the Levellers, the Waterboys, Egudo Embako, Richard Thompson, Suzanne Vega, Loudon Wainwright III, Altan, Tommy Emmanuel, Seth Lakeman and many others. The last Brampton Live took place in 2009 and has been, to a certain extent, replaced in 2012 by the Stepping Stones Festival organised by Maddy Prior (of Steeleye Span) held in early May at the Brampton Community Centre.
Brampton and Beyond Community Trust is a community-based development trust serving Brampton and the surrounding area in north east Cumbria. The Trust became a registered company and a registered charity in July 2010. The Trust aims to provide accessible, affordable and responsive services for local people and seeks to be self-financing. The Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, Bampton In The Cotswolds And Downton Abbey Filming Location
The Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, Bampton, Oxfordshire, is a Church of England parish church in the Diocese of Oxford that dates from the 12th century. It is on the site of a late Saxon Minster, the tower of which survives in the present church. It has a 13th-century spire, and a carved stone reredos of Christ and his Apostles from about 1400. It is a Grade I listed building.
Saint Beornwald of Bampton was venerated as patron saint of Bampton from at least the 9th century until the Reformation. His feast day was 21 December. Given the degree of local patronage he may have been the founder of the church. Very little is known about Beornwald. Although early records call him saint, confessor, priest and martyr, even his tomb is now lost for certain. His shrine was probably in the north transept of the parish church, where some evidence of a former shrine remains.
William the Conqueror granted the original church to Leofric, Bishop of Exeter. The Diocese of Exeter was involved with St Mary's for many years afterwards. The church has been rebuilt and extended a number times, most recently in 1870 when the roof was given its present form.
The ancient parish was one of the largest in Oxfordshire, and included the townships of Weald, Lew, Aston, Cote, Shifford, Chimney and Lower Haddon. In 1857 the parish was split into the three ecclesiastical parishes of Bampton Proper, Bampton Lew and Bampton Aston, all now part of the united benefice of Bampton with Clanfield. In 1866 the parish was split into five civil parishes: Bampton, Lew, Aston and Cote, Shifford and Chimney.
St Mary's Rectory has a date-stone stating that it was built in 1546. It was altered in 1799 by the builder and architect Daniel Harris.
On 12 September 1955, St Mary's Church was designated as a Grade I listed building.[10]
Many scenes, including some of Downton Abbey's key events, have been filmed in and around the church in Bampton.

The forgotten Angel of St Mary Magdalene Church
A site survey. St Mary Magdalene is a 14th Century Church located in the village of Brampton, Cambridgeshire, England, United Kingdom. A previous church existed on site, called St Mary the Virgin, which predated The Doomsday Book. There are some fine examples of Georgian and Victorian Graves, and Brampton Graveyard is a serene oasis of peace and calm in a busy 21st Century world. However, those Graves that still bear a Gravestone are in a sad state of decay, due to the passage of time and the elements.
The Angel of Brampton Church is the last Angel within the Graveyard. Together with all the other historic Graves, very soon it will be gone. This upload is to serve posterity as a historic record, so that future generations will have a record of their lost heritage.

Stained Glass Windows by Sir Edward Burne-Jones and Morris & Co. (Part I)
Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones, 1st Baronet ARA (28 August 1833 – 17 June 1898) was an English artist and designer closely associated with the later phase of the Pre-Raphaelite movement, who worked closely with William Morris on a wide range of decorative arts as a founding partner in Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. Burne-Jones was closely involved in the rejuvenation of the tradition of stained glass art in Britain; his stained-glass include windows in St. Philip's Cathedral, Birmingham, St Martin in the Bull Ring, Birmingham, Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Square, Chelsea, St Peter and St Paul parish church in Cromer, St Martin's Church in Brampton, Cumbria (the church designed by Philip Webb), St Michael's Church, Brighton, All Saints, Jesus Lane, Cambridge, St Edmund Hall and Christ Church, two colleges of the University of Oxford. His stained glass works also feature in St. Anne's Church, Brown Edge, Staffordshire Moorlands and St.Edward the Confessor church at Cheddleton Staffordshire. Burne-Jones's early paintings show the heavy inspiration of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, but by the 1860s Burne-Jones was discovering his own artistic voice. In 1877, he was persuaded to show eight oil paintings at the Grosvenor Gallery (a new rival to the Royal Academy). These included The Beguiling of Merlin. The timing was right, and he was taken up as a herald and star of the new Aesthetic Movement.
Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. (1861–1875) was a furnishings and decorative arts manufacturer and retailer founded by the artist and designer William Morris with friends from the Pre-Raphaelites. With its successor Morris & Co. (1875–1940) the firm's medieval-inspired aesthetic and respect for hand-craftsmanship and traditional textile arts had a profound influence on the decoration of churches and houses into the early 20th century.
Although its most influential period was during the flourishing of the Arts and Crafts Movement in the 1880s and 1890s, Morris & Co. remained in operation in a limited fashion from World War I until its closure in 1940.
William Morris (24 March 1834 – 3 October 1896) was a British textile designer, poet, novelist, translator, and socialist activist. Associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement, he was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. His literary contributions helped to establish the modern fantasy genre.

McDonald Centre for Theology, Ethics and Public Life Conference: How Much is Enough? The Love of Money and the Case for the Good Life
I attended this conference reaching late afternoon and couple of speakers were heard.
I wanted to ask them a question but sometimes, they avoid me as if I am not a theologian or a professional in their fields. Common sense has no place in the institutions of dead letters.
The present society, Capitalists, is based upon the Jewish system in which some were rich whilst the other poor at their expense. That is, why Christ Jesus told the rich Jew, give your riches to the poor that you have fleeced and you will be then suitable to join my company. But he was extremely rich and would not part with his money. He ran off pulling a long face. Remember that Lazarus family was a victim of such rich people that he had to resort to begging whilst his sister to prostitution to meet both ends as even today some married women turn to prostitution to maintain their families or for riches. Jesus advised Mary that one who has created you, also provides you with food to live on and do not be taken away by the riches of the rich and sell your body to the sons of Satan for the sake of Mammon. Lead a simple honourable life and be not tempted by the riches of the rich. She being sensible, stopped prostitution and started to live an honourable life as the master of her own destiny contented with her lot. Lazarus carried on begging and they were leading a happy life entertaining destitute. You will find the poor help each other more than the rich helping each other.
So, the Jews were inflicted with the plague of riches and had a society of crooks from the Temple High Priests to their rich favourite merchants as Church of England headed by Queen loves the millionaires more than the poor.
Whereas the Samaritans were neither rich nor poor and they were leading a healthy spiritual life helping the people without any distinction as the Rabbi and the Pharisee displayed at the wounded person. So, the Samaritans loved people whilst the Jews loved Mammon. The Greed that dominates in this Dark Age made the Jews spiritually sick that needed a Special Spiritual Doctor Christ Jesus more than anyone else. The visit of Jesus to the Samaritan Village where He met a Samaritan woman, never mind the men, gave Jesus the best spiritual food that Jesus ever tasted in His whole Life and this signifies the type of society Christ Jesus came to create to beat GREED and suffering. Today's society is geared towards the riches of Mammon and not to the Agape Love that the Samaritans displayed towards strangers. The love of Mammon could be measured through court cases whilst a society nearer to Samaritans is free of such court cases.
Further, God is worshipped in truth and in spirit. In truth means people should not tell lies as Christ Peter killed Ananias and Saphira for telling lies. And in spirit means what is inside you, should be outside and no hypocrisy. This leads to full transparency. In such a society, state run enterprises are the best to look after the welfare of people keeping the consumer prices down but in these country state assets were sold to public to multiply riches with no spiritual ethics.
No wonder Church of England is headed by Queen, the head of Mammon and a house with two heads, Queen and Christ Jesus, cannot stand on firm footing but will fall. And that fall was great when the Dog-Collared clerics declared that those soldiers who died fighting for Mammon in the expansion of Empire died to glorify God, our loving and merciful Father. What a non-sense that the brain washed public has no taste for God but Mammon.
NOTHING POSITIVE IS DONE BUT SUGAR-COATED SERMONS OF FALSEHOODS.
Description In 1930 John Maynard Keynes predicted that, over the next century, income would rise steadily, people's basic needs would be met, and no one would have to work more than fifteen hours a week. Why was he wrong? In How Much is Enough? The Love of Money and the Case for the Good Life (Penguin, 2012 and 2013), Robert and Edward Skidelsky argue that wealth is not—or should not be—an end in itself, but rather a means to the good life...........
