THE MOST CROOKED CHURCH IN BRITAIN - ST MARTIN'S CWMYOY
Come join me...CollidingPlanets as I take a look round this beautiful Gothic church from the 12th century.
The Church of St Martin, Cwmyoy, Monmouthshire, Wales, was begun in the 12th century, although most of the current structure dates from the 13th century. The church is most notable for its extreme tilt, caused as a result of a landslide. This has led to many attempts to strengthen the church and prevent its collapse, through the use of massive tie beams and buttresses. The church is in the Gothic style and has a chancel, nave, south porch, and western tower. A round-headed north window dates to the 12th century, and the nave roof has been dated to the late 13th or early 14th century. St Martin's is a Grade I listed building and an active parish church. It is dedicated to St Martin.
A fond farewell to St Martin's hall
After 100 years active service to local people,St Martin's Church Hall is going to close forever.
St. Francis Roman Catholic Church, Ely, Cardiff, Wales....
Saint Francis in Ely is one of the most impressive late 20th century Catholic churches I have seen anywhere. It is a remarkable example how it is possible to be very modern while avoiding the descent into tasteless banality so often found in modern churches. This is too often the case, not only where Catholic churches are concerned but there are also sad examples of churches of other Christian denominations that make even warehouses look stately.
One of the most impressive features of Saint Francis are the remarkable Stations of the Cross. I believe they were designed, made and installed by a Polish artist whose name I do not know.
The music that accompanies the images is a lovely version of the Ave Maria sung by Ireland's great Count John McCormack...

Wonky Church In Wales
ID: 1604309
No, you're not seeing things - this wonky church really is sinking into the ground.
It's known by locals as the leaning tower of Cwmyoy - and despite slowly sinking into the ground for hundreds of years, is still a fully functional church.
The church of St Martin, Cwmyoy, Wales, dates back to the 11th century - but a landslide centuries ago, caused the church to lean at a right angle.
The church that has a crooked tower, chancel and the sanctuary, attracts dozens of visitors every month - and according to Reverend Derek Young, 76, it also has a small but dedicated regular congregation.

Letter to the Bench of Bishops 2013
The decision of the Governing Body of the Church in Wales (on Thursday September 12) to enable women to be ordained to the episcopate has been greeted with great joy by many people both within and without the Church in Wales. For many, it has fulfilled the longing and yearning of decades and brings great happiness. However, the decision has also been received by some with deep disappointment and for whom it will have great effect as they consider the direction of their future journey as disciples of the Lord and members of his Church. I include myself in this latter group. There will be some too, of course, who have never given the issue much thought and who may have no great views either way on the matter. Perhaps, even at this stage, they may not understand or appreciate all the various issues in question. May I say, from the outset, that all of these responses, and others, are reflected within my parishes and I have been more than sensitive to the varied opinions, dealing with gentleness and subtlety.
The decision, of course, like many decisions of the Governing Body, changes the the life of the Church in Wales and will have a direct influence on the life of our parishes. There are many far reaching consequences of which the relative joy or disappointment depends on your point of view. Both St German's and St Saviour's have, since their beginnings over 125 years ago, grown from the catholic tradition which emerged from the Oxford Movement of the nineteenth century. It has consistently retained this catholic tradition in its worship, tradition, teaching and practice, whilst continuing to hold an important and valuable place within the Church of England and (from 1920) the Church in Wales. So much good work, mission, ministry, pastoral care and church growth-- both locally and provincially -- have resulted directly from this valued and valuable catholic tradition of the Church. Yes, the Church in Wales has received, and continues to receive, so much from this tradition. Perhaps the future of this tradition is now in question. Whatever is included in the Code of Practice, to my mind, needs to be faithful to this tradition and ensure its continued existence within the Church in Wales.
However, people who hold to this view do not want to simply 'remain', they want to flourish. They want it to be possible to have a structure in place that allows them to grow and thrive. This their hope. This is my hope. Whether or not the Bishops' Code of Practice will enable this to happen, we shall have to wait and see.
This is my letter to the bishops.

Places to see in ( Bowness - UK )
Bowness-on-Windermere is a town in South Lakeland, Cumbria, England. Due to its position on the banks of Windermere, the town has become a tourist honeypot. Although their mutual growth has caused them to become one large settlement, the town is distinct from the town of Windermere as the two still have distinguishable town centres. Historically part of Westmorland, in 2012, Bowness was one of the official stop off points for the Olympic torch before it made its way to the Olympic Games opening ceremony.
The town's ancient parish church of St Martin was built in 1483 but of an older foundation. The former rectory is said to have been built in 1415. Bowness-on-Windermere became a civil parish in 1894 and an urban district council was formed for the town at the same time. In 1905, the council merged with that of Windermere, and the two civil parishes merged in 1974 under the name of Windermere. The civil parish is governed by a town council.
During the 19th century, Bowness grew from a small fishing village to a town living almost entirely off tourism and holiday homes. It was the centre of the boat-building industry that provided the sailing yachts, rowing boats and steam launches used on the lake. A large number of hotels and boarding houses gave employment to the permanent population of the town. The arrival of the railway in 1847 in Windermere (the residents of Bowness had opposed a station in their own town) provided much of the momentum for the growth.
Windermere railway station offers train and bus connections to the surrounding areas, Manchester, Manchester Airport and the West Coast Main Line, and is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from the lakefront. Both Stagecoach and the local council provide frequent connecting buses from Bowness Pier; Stagecoach's open-top double-decker buses travel through the centre of town and continue to Ambleside and Grasmere, while the council's wheelchair-accessible minibuses run around the edge of town. The Windermere Ferry, a car carrying cable ferry, connects Bowness at Ferry Nab on the eastern side of the lake with Ferry House Far Sawrey on the western side of the lake, a trip of approximately 10 minutes. For those looking for a more leisurely way to travel there are regular lake cruises running from Bowness Bay to the north end of the lake at Ambleside and south end at Fell Foot.

St Eadburgha Church, Broadway Worcestershire
Shadowlands visits the Church of St Eadburgha, in Broadway Worcestershire.
The original parish church of Broadway, the Church of St Eadburgha has been a Christian place of worship since the 12th century. The current church was built circa 1400 but there are elements that remain of the original 12th century building.
The dedication of a Christian church to Eadburgha is not common. Eadburgha was the grand-daughter of Alfred the Great. As a child Eadburgha was asked to choose between receiving jewels or her own Bible, she chose the Bible.
