Buckden & Offord Cluny Walk, Walks In Cambridgeshire, Route & Scenery
Buckden & Offord Cluny Walk, Walks In Cambridgeshire, Route & Scenery
Buckden Walks via Offord Cluny was about 5.5 miles in distance. The terrain of the route was a combination of enclosed, field, riverside and woodland paths, a track, plus roads, quiet lanes and pavements. The walking was easy on level ground. Route finding was easy with obvious paths, good waymarking and good landmarks. There were no stiles to negotiate.
Along the walk you visit: Bucken, Stirtloe and Diddington Brook; Offord Cluny, the River Great Ouse and Buckden Marina; and Buckden once more. Scenery includes: lovely building and dwellings in Buckden, including the Lion Hotel, a black and white timber framed dwelling, Buckden Towers which is a 12th-century fortified manor house, and the Church of St Mary; a lovely tree-lined pond; lovely fields, meadows and crp fields with views of a local wind farm; woodland and large bodies of water with water fowl, including swans; the River Great Ouse with river locks, canal boats and motor boats; lovely buildings in Offord Cluny, including All Saints Church, a lovely thatched cottage, and the Old Flour Mills that have been converted into riverside accommodation; and quiet tree-lined country roads and lanes. You may also see sheep grazing in fields.
I did this walk with my wife Anne whilst on a combined cat sitting and Cambridgeshire walking holiday during June 2019. We drove from our accommodation in Woodhurst, Cambridgeshire, north of St Ives, to the starting location of Buckden, Cambridgeshire. We parked at the side of the road on Church Street, and walked to the start location of the walk, which was the junction by the Lion Hotel, at grid reference TL 191 676.

Places to see in ( Ingleton - UK )
Places to see in ( Ingleton - UK )
Ingleton is a village and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. The village is 19 miles from Kendal and 17 miles from Lancaster on the western side of the Pennines. It is 9.3 miles from Settle.
The River Doe and the River Twiss meet to form the source of the River Greta, a tributary of the River Lune. The village is on the A65 road and at the head of the A687. The B6255 takes the south bank of the River Doe to Ribblehead and Hawes. All that remains of the railway in the village is the landmark Ingleton Viaduct. Arthur Conan Doyle was a regular visitor to the area and was married locally, as his mother lived at Masongill from 1882 to 1917 (see notable people). There is growing evidence to support a claim that the inspiration for the name Sherlock Holmes came from here.
There are major quarries within the parish. Ingleton Quarry is active Meal Bank Quarry no longer is, but extracted Carboniferous limestone and possesses an early Hoffman kiln. There was a textile mill, and the coalfield supported twelve or more small collieries, but Ingleton is mostly known for its tourism, being partially in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, offering waterfalls in a SSSI, limestone caves and Karst landscape walking opportunities.
The civil parish of Ingleton is extensive, stretching from Blea Moor near Wold Fell SD 793847 in the north to Newby Moor SD 704698 in the south. This area of Craven is best known for its natural landmarks, since the parish includes the summits of two of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, Ingleborough and Whernside. Two miles north east of the village on the road to Chapel-le-Dale are the show caves at White Scar Caves. An access tunnel has been cut to allow visitors to visit. The Ingleton Waterfalls Trail is a five-mile (8 km) circular walk from the village, opened in 1885.
Ingleton Viaduct is a Grade II listed structure in the village. Six miles to the north east on Batty Moss is the Ribblehead Viaduct, a Grade II* listed structure on the Settle and Carlisle Line, and on the land underneath and around it, the scheduled remains of the construction camp and navvy settlements. Ingleton had two railway stations at opposite ends of Ingleton Viaduct. Ingleton (Midland) station opened for ten months only in 1849, then reopened in 1861 until 1954. Ingleton (L&NW) station opened along with the Ingleton Branch Line in 1861, but such was the rivalry between competing railway companies that initially passengers were forced to walk between the stations across the Greta valley floor, despite the viaduct between them.
( Ingleton - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Ingleton . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Ingleton - UK

Yorkshire Dales Country Walk - Wharfedale - Conistone-The Dib-Capplestone Gate-Conistone Pie round
Our video is a guided walk in Upper Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales from a lovely little village called Conistone between Grassington and Kettlewell. We start at Conistone Bridge and make our way to the village then uphill to the top of the narrow gorge called The Dib. We keep going uphill along the Conistone Turf Road (Mossdale Scar and Caverns is to the right) until we go through Capplestone Gate at the top of the hill. We now turn left along the top of Conistone Moor passing through the old mines and shafts before descending to the Dales Way where we turn left following the Dales Way to the left of Conistone Pie. We then follow the track, Scot Gate Lane parallel with The Dib, downhill back into Conistone via St. Mary's Church. This is a moderate to hard walk on grass and stony tracks and public footpaths. There are some steep inclines and declines and one short rocky climb. Elevation: lowest point 183.30 metres (601.38 feet) highest point 514.70 metres (1685.65 feet). Approx 7 miles allow 3 hours using OS map OL2, Yorkshire Dales, Southern and Western Areas. Start Point: Conistone Bridge. For more info please see our website.

Bells of Cambridge
For over 1,200 years church bells have called the faithful to worship, helping people celebrate triumph and commemorate tragedy. But the fact that they are one of the largest and loudest musical instruments in the world is often overlooked.
This is something musical innovator Charles Hazlewood wants to change - he wants to see if church bells can be used to make original music in their own right.
Choosing Cambridge for his musical experiment, Charles immerses himself in the world of bells and bell ringing. He tries his hand at ringing church bells, handbells and even a carillon - an instrument which resembles an organ made out of bells. He discovers why church bell ringing sounds the way it does and tries out some radical techniques - pushing the boundaries, he re-rigs a whole church tower so it can play a tune.
At the culmination of his investigations Charles devises and performs an extraordinary piece of music which involves three separate church towers and 30 handbell ringers gathered from across the eastern counties.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written
language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through
audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio
while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using
a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
