I took the popular route of Tangmarg to reach Gulmarg from Srinagar. The roadside view was fantastic for the mountains and the beautiful Poplar and Pine trees. Gulmarg is best to explore in any time of the year but too popular to visit in winter for fresh snows and to enjoy many adventure sports.

Gulmarg is around 50km from Srinagar and 13 km away from Tangmarg. Gulmarg is a small town with a large meadow in the centre, and hotels, government residences, gondola, shops at the periphery of the meadow. Most of the tourist spots like Rani's temple, St. Mary's Church, Golf course, Children's park, etc. are located in the meadow. A road around 5 km long goes around the meadow and from within the meadow. The Gondola is located at one corner of the meadow. The market with lot of eating places, hotels are close by.
A sight-seeing trip is mainly through Gondola (Rope-way) ride in two phases. Phase-I Gulmarg to Kungdoor (near Khilanmarg) & Phase-II Kungdoor to Aparwath. As of October 2018, Gondola ticket cost are Rs. 740 & 950 respectively for above 3-year kids to adults including return trip. If you are travelling during May-Oct, there will not find snow at Phase-I so It is recommended to book gondola up to Phase-II only.

Gulmarg Gondola World's Highest Cable Car Ride
It was a fantastic experience to enjoy Gondola ride for the first time during my one day trip to Gulmarg a popular winter destination in Jammu and Kashmir, India.
Gulmarg Gondola, one of the world's highest cable cars and also the top attraction among tourists here. You can enjoy two stages or phases of riding from Gulmarg. The first phase starts from Gulmarg (8,500 ft) to Kongdoori (10,500 ft) and the second one will take you to Apharwat Peak (13,800 ft) above the sea level.
I enjoyed a Gondola ride to Kungdoor or Kongdoori (Phase 1), loved the breathtaking top view of Pir Panjal mountain range which covered the entire Gulmarg, the Meadow of Flowers in Kashmir.
Six passengers can be seated in each cabin of Gondola. Gulmarg Gondola ride distance to phase 1 is 2.5 km and will take 8-9 mins to reach the beautiful valley of Kongdoori. After that, I made a pony ride and sledging to reach the main ski point for Gulmarg Skiing ( On the way to Gondola, you can also see the world's highest (2,650 m) green golf course and the oldest St Mary's Church and Maharani Temple. BTW, I've also loved to taste a sip of Kashmiri Tea (Kahwa) before a Gondola ride.

I've managed a fur coat, and boots on rent from the roadside fur shop. Here I took an experienced guide (Mr. Selim) as well for cooperating during my entire adventure in Gulmarg.
I booked Gulmarg Gondola ticket from Tourist Reception Center (TRC) in Srinagar. The first phase of the Gondola ride ticket rate was 740 Indian Rs. per person. To avoid the long queue better to book it from Srinagar itself. You can also book a ticket through online (gulmarggondola.com).

SRINAGAR, India – A church bell has rung for the first time in five decades at the largest Catholic church in the main city of India's portion of Muslim-majority Kashmir. Members of Srinagar's tiny Christian community assembled at the 120-year-old Holy Family Catholic Church on Sunday and celebrated the installation of the new bell, weighing 105 kilograms (231 pounds). The British-era church lost its original bell 50 years ago in an arson attack. People from other faiths, including Muslims and Hindus, also participated in the event on Sunday. India and Pakistan each administer part of Kashmir, but both claim the Himalayan territory in its entirety. Rebel groups have been fighting since 1989 for the Indian-administered portion to become independent or merge with Pakistan.
