THE PRIORY: TEMPLAR SITES OF SOUTH WALES
QUEST 17: ABERGAVENNY, TREVETHIN AND PONTYPOOL
Our first visit of this particular day was to St Mary’s Priory in Abergavenny; a very peaceful church with some very ancient and intricately carved tombs inside, mostly of Knights Templar and associated heritage; the church also houses a very beautiful, modern window with some interesting ancient symbolism incorporated into the design. Sadly we could not film or comment on the history, interior and meaning of the church on this occasion, as it was being set up for the carol service, but hopefully another time we can do just that.
The second visit was to St Cadoc’s Church at Trevethin and although we nearly did not get to see inside of this fine Templar church, patience prevailed and won the day and we were very lucky to have it unlocked especially for us. The wait was worthwhile for there were some very important and significant Templar associations and symbolism inside the church. As we were accompanied on this brief but worthwhile visit it was again not possible to do much filming or explanations; just a quick snippet of footage which sadly did come out rather blurred.
As evening wore on we next visited the Hanbury Arms in Pontypool and the Masonic Hall a few yards down the road, all worthwhile visits and places of ‘hidden energies’.
We also filmed outside another Knight Templar sacred site; a burial mound, now a cemetery (Llwyncelyn cemetery) where we managed a little more footage, although now dark it was very worthwhile, especially on the sacred mound where the energies were amazing; as was our journey getting there which was a tale to be told in itself!
All four sites visited are very significant on our quest and relate to the earthly bloodline of those whom are very important, yet always remain hidden figures in our history. The sites also relate to the hidden pyramids of our ancient lands; hence the amazing energies experienced at most of the sites. The bloodline and the pyramids are of course very much connected and as always we shall continue to seek out the real history; the history never told. yet often hidden within plain sight…

Guilmant: March upon Handel's Lift up your Heads Father Willis St. Mary's Ewell
The thumbnail is of one of my favourite instruments. The incredibly flamboyant Grey and Davison organ with chamades now splendidly restored in Usk Priory Church. A fine example of early Victorian organ building. Sounds as good as it looks!

March upon Handel's Lift up your Heads, op. 15
Guilmant was born in Boulogne-sur-Mer. A student of his father, then of the Belgian master Jacques-Nicolas Lemmens, he became an organist and teacher in his place of birth.
In 1871 he was appointed to play the organ regularly at la Trinité church in Paris, and this position he held for 30 years] From then on Guilmant followed a career as a virtuoso; he gave concerts in the United States (the first major French organist to tour that country), and in Canada, as well as in Europe, making especially frequent visits to England. His American achievements included a 1904 series of no fewer than 40 recitals on the largest organ in the world, the St. Louis Exposition Organ, now preserved as the nucleus of Philadelphia's Wanamaker Organ.
In 1894 Guilmant founded the Schola Cantorum with Charles Bordes and Vincent d'Indy. He taught there up until his death at his home in Meudon, near Paris, in 1911. In addition, he taught at the Conservatoire de Paris where he succeeded Charles-Marie Widor as organ teacher in 1896.[] Marcel Dupré was the most celebrated of his many students.

London Surprise Minor at Pentrich
A course of London Surprise Minor on the bells of Pentrich in Derbyshire during a meeting of the Chesterfield District of the Derby Diocesan Association (well, with a few visitors as well!)
London is a tricky method, though Minor is much easier than Major. Most of it is reverse hunting, so you end up leading or lying backstroke first instead of handstroke first. Basically it's alternate thirds and fourths with a fishtail when the treble's in 3/4. Now you can ring it!
Pentrich are quite nice bells, though a little odd-struck and a little loud. But I have just called a Young Ringers' quarter peal on them this evening so have had quite enough of them for the time being!

Return to the Fair Country - Alexander Cordell
Visit to what remains of Garndyrus in the Brecon Beacons above Abergavenny and near Blaenavon, where Welsh author Alexander Cordell's most famous books is set. I can't put the title because, innocent as it is, it breaks Youtube's very strict terms and conditions. My mum is reading from a passage, at the end, anyway.

Cambridge Surprise Minor at Sidcup, Kent
The majority of a quarter peal rung at Sidcup, Kent, on 11/11/2017, followed by the lowering.
The state of the Sidcup bells is much improved now compared to their condition a few years ago.
Since they were handed over to the current steeple keeper and tower captain much work has been done to get them into their current state and they go very well as a result, despite the flighty treble.
This is the first time for many years that a quarter of Surprise Minor has been rung on these bells (25 years) and marks huge achievement given the work that has been done to the bells. A peal during Easter 2018 is planned for these bells to mark 175 years since their installation. It is hoped that this will help to raise money for refurbishment of the clappers. The peal is also being rung to raise awareness of the ringing to the local community and to the parish and perhaps encourage new recruits.
Details of the quarter are as follows:
