Stand Up Paddle - The Great Stour River In Kent - Fordwich to Ramsgate
My brother Alex Chater and I dreamed up a crazy idea to paddleboard the Great Stour River in Kent. We planned the route, worked out what we thought would be the best tides and looked for a weather window. When we saw an opportunity we went for it.
We had no idea how it would be but we planned on it taking around seven hours and for us to be paddling against the tide for a couple of hours. As it turned out we were spot on, paddling against a flooding tide from Grove Ferry and beyond Plucks Gutter for two hours and completing the paddle in 6hrs and 50mins.
We didn't bank on aggressive swans, evil horse flies that drew blood and just how long almost seven hours of paddling would be!
Getting ready for the next mission now! Thanks to F-One for the paddleboards!

Old Church (1961)
M/Ss of two modern churches; commentator talks of them lacking the character that some of our old churches had.
M/S of an old church at Greenstead, Essex. We are told that timber from nearby Epping Forest was used in this beautiful chapel a thousand years ago, as we see C/U of the windows on the roof with carved wooden edges and decoration; tilt down to show timber panels on the side of the church. C/U of the panels; panning right to show more of the same.
C/U of a hole carved in the wood so that lepers could look through and see the service (it looks too close to the ground to me; maybe they put their foot in the hole and looked through further up in the wall!). C/U of part of the carved roof; M/S of some gravestones in the ground that are overgrown with grass; tilt up to show a side door in the church.
M/S of the church spire with a weather vane on the top. M/s of the church as the vicar comes out of the doorway and walks across the grass holding an historic bible; C/U of the bible which has wooden covers and a metal cross on the front. C/U of the vicar who looks to the left; C/U of a Saxon gravestone; tilt up to show a wooden cross above it where one side of the cross has broken off; commentator says it's the only known Saxon grave in the country. M/S of the church with the Saxon grave in the foreground.
Note: On file is a small newspaper article about the church by Big Chief I-Spy, and a little leaflet about the history of Greenstead Church. See out takes on *PM0129* CP 318 OLD CHURCH.
