Description
St Mary the Virgin Church Clock, Bury
A look at St Mary the Virgin Church Clock in Bury, Lancashire on Saturday 18th October 2014.
Church records suggest that the first church was built on the site in 971 A.D. when parishes were first formed by King Edgar of England, although this is likely to have been a wood and thatch structure. Churches of this type of construction are thought to have been used until a church in the gothic style was completed in 1585. Between 1773 and 1780 the main body of this church was demolished and rebuilt leaving only the spire from the original church. The spire was replaced in 1842 but by 1870 the wood in the rest of the church had rotted and a new building was needed. The new church designed by the architect J. S. Crowther, leaving the 1842 spire in place, was officially opened on the Feast of the Annunciation on 2 February 1876.

Prestwich St Mary's Churchyard Tour with Bill Cottam
A tour of the Churchyard of St Mary's in Prestwich, Manchester.
St Mary's Church was built on high ground within a roughly circular area, and the word Prestwich is Old English for dwelling of the priest both indicative of Anglo-Saxon Origins. The earliest documented evidence however dates form the 12 Century.
The graves include William Sturgeon, inventor of the electromagnet and the Artisan Naturalists.

17 Peak District Churches
and presents 17 Peak District Churches.
Of all the structures in the Peak District few stand up to the test of time in a way that the churches do. Not only do they offer a sanctuary for those finding spiritual peace and guidance but they also provide some of the most wonderful attractions to any visitor in the peak District
Many of the churches can trace roots back to Saxon times and have weathered the storm of royal disapproval, civil unrest and time. All have their own characters and stories to tell
A look at a small selection of Peak District church really can't do justice to the range and variety of buildings on offer for the visitor. Peak Forest's parish church of King Charles the Martyr stands on a previous church which was once considered the 'Gretna Green of England' because of its ability to disregard the laws of the day regarding marriages.

Ringing on the Heavy Taylor 6 at Steeple Ashton, Wilts
Some Stedman and a couple of changes of Cambridge (before my camera died!!) on this classic 1959 Taylor 6. They are awkward to ring well - due to dodgy ropes, a feeling of being a bit neglected upstairs, and being hung high in this tall tower - but god are they worth the effort!! Magnificent wool church too, well worth a visit!! Sadly they are very unavailable quarter peals, let alone peals (last one 1984!!) so we were only able to have half an hour of general ringing :-(

Bolton Abbey Yorkshire UK
Bolton Abbey and walk along the River Wharfe In windy conditions
Bolton Abbey is the estate within which is located the ruined 12th-century Augustinian Bolton Priory in North Yorkshire.
The monastery was originally founded at Embsay in 1120. Led by a prior, Bolton Abbey was technically a priory, despite its name. It was founded in 1154 by the Augustinian order, on the banks of the River Wharfe. The land at Bolton, as well as other resources, were given to the order by Lady Alice de Romille of Skipton Castle in 1154. In the early 14th century Scottish raiders caused the temporary abandonment of the site and serious structural damage to the priory. The seal of the priory featured the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Child and the phrase sigillum sancte Marie de Bolton.
