St Michael’s Uniting Church | Melbourne, Australia
[FILMED ON July 30, 2017] St Michael’s is one of the church that is classified by the National Trust of Australia in the heart of the city. It was the focal point for Congregationalism in Victoria in 1977 and was originally called the Collins Street Independent Church. The church was designed by leading architects at the time, Joseph Reed, who also designed Wesley Church, Melbourne Town Hall, Scots Church, Royal Exhibition Building and the State Library.
The external design of the building was constructed using multi-coloured Hawthorn bricks. It is described as Lombardic style with Romanesque features. Meanwhile, the interior of the church was strongly influenced by the minister at the time, Reverend Henderson’s. It was designed in accordance with the principles of the Congregationalist Church, to be such that the preacher would be clearly audible and visible to all members of the congregation.

St Michael’s Uniting Church is a church in Collins Street in central Melbourne, Australia. Originally the Collins Street Independent Church, a Congregational Union of Australia church, and later Collins Street Uniting Church, St Michael's has become well known as a centre of liberal theology and political radicalism under its outspoken minister since 1971, Francis Macnab, currently the church's executive minister.[1] The church became a congregation of the Uniting Church in Australia at its inception in 1977.
St Michael’s Uniting Church - Melbourne
Part of an animated guide around the city of Melbourne.
Started as a university project to show our skills as media students and our love for Melbourne City.
Each video was filmed by us with hand drawn animations over top that were done frame-by-frame, our original goal was to include animated monsters to add a fantasy aspect but due to time constraints that had to be scraped but if we plan to continue this project outside of our studies the animated monsters will be added in.
St Michael's on Collins
St Michael's is one of the most unique churches in Melbourne, Australia and indeed the world. Unique for its relevant, contemporary preaching that embraces inner wellbeing as its core message.
Sunday services include a mix of traditional and modern presentations. Inspirational music is integral to the services and most Sunday services include guest musicians, who perform in-between readings from the Bible, New Scientist Magazine, Time Magazine, Australian and International poets as well as current news articles.
In short, you don’t have to be Christian in order to attend a Sunday service at St Michael’s. One of our congregation recently stated that she had ‘been coming to this church since 1984 and I wouldn’t call myself a Christian. I love the feeling of hope and the conversations that are started each week”
St Michael's is a place which affirms and encourages the best expression of who you are and who you can be, not only through the Sunday service but thought numerous wellbeing programs and its commitment to counselling and psychotherapy.
We believe faith, spirituality and a meaning to life are vital ingredients for our health and well-being and that there is a need to get hold of a more authentic religious understanding and to express it more confidently and diversely.
Sunday services commence at 10am.
Free Entry.

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Archbishop of Manila, visited the Archdiocese of Melbourne in August 2014. He led a Lectio Divina (contemplative reading of the Scriptures) and Mass for the over 2,500 people who gathered at St Patrick's Cathedral. Music was provided by the Filipino Grand Chorus of Melbourne.
The mass was organised by the Archbishop’s Office for Evangelisation, which is hosting Cardinal Tagle through its International Speaker Program. Melbourne’s large Filipino community made up the vast majority of the congregation. The principal celebrant for the Mass was Cardinal Tagle, with concelebrants, Vicar General, Monsignor Gregory Bennett, Episcopal Vicar for Migrants and Refugees, Very Rev Delmar Silva CS EV, Filipino community chaplain, Rev Joselito Cerna Asis and parish priests from the Melbourne Archdiocese. Rev Ric Holland's Sunday 19 March Address at St Michael's Uniting Church
Welsh Church | Melbourne, Australia
[FILMED ON July 29, 2017] Situated near the heart of Melbourne, The Welsh Church is one of the two Welsh Churches still active in Victoria. It was designed by Melbourne architects Crouch & Wilson. The site contains a manse, a chapel, two halls and a modern office building. Interesting fact to note that in 1896, the Queen Victoria Hospital was established by Dr Constance Stone in this church hall. This was the first women’s hospital in Victoria operated by women.
