Bathampton Meadows
We urge Bath and North East Somerset Council, and call on Ben Howlett MP and Jacob Rees-Mogg MP to leave a positive and lasting legacy by protecting the historical Bathampton Meadows East and West of Mill Lane.
Bathampton, known to exist from as early as 3000 BC as ‘Caer Badon’ and mentioned in the Doomsday Book verges on its northern borders the serene Meadows, which stretch down to the river Avon. The Meadows, a wildlife sanctuary in their own right, are on the Northern and Eastern sides surrounded and overlooked by the villages of Batheaston and Bathford and nestled between the river Avon and the Kennet and Avon canal, built by John Rennie in 1810 and just recently televised in BBC’s ‘Great Canal Journeys’ starring Timothy West and Prunella Scales.
Batheaston on the lower slopes of Solsbury Hill, made famous by Peter Gabriel , boasts an equally old historic past with its own entry in the Doomsday Book. It is reputed to have been the home of Prince Bladud, who discovered the curative powers of the hot springs in Bath. Eagle House in Batheaston was during the 1920s the refuge of the suffragettes, who recuperated there and subsequently planted their famous arboretum on Solsbury Hill. It forms part of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) with most of the village falling within the Green Belt zone and a majority of the houses in the conservation area.
Bathford, historically famous for its beautiful architecture from Roman villas to Georgian manor houses, John Wood the Elder being responsible for Warleigh Manor and Shockerwick House, boasts some of the most spectacular views of the Meadows.
The Meadows form part of the route hundreds of Australians come to walk every year on their way to pay their respects to Admiral Governor Arthur Phillip, the founder of the first British Colony in Australia. He lies buried in St Nicholas Church in Bathampton.
This setting is where Bath and North East Somerset are proposing to put a visible Park & Ride with allegedly 1400 spaces East of Bath. Please sign up and support us in preventing this disastrous suggestion from becoming a reality. The historical significance of the area and the detrimental impact on landscape and neighbouring villages with a Park and Ride in this location cannot be overstated!
Let us give future generations the opportunity to enjoy the last existing open green space on the outskirts of Bath!
Let us value and respect the historical and cultural heritage left for our keeping by our ancestors!
Let us realise the tourism value of the area and appreciate the beauty we can offer to communities from around the world!
We urge Bath and North East Somerset Council, and call on Ben Howlett MP and Jacob Rees-Mogg MP to leave a positive and lasting legacy by protecting the historical Bathampton Meadows East and West of Mill Lane.
Join our protest outside the Guildhall Thursday 12 November at 5 pm when the full Council meets to make its decision.

Annable's London S Minor at Minety, Wilts
An excerpt from a quarter peal of Annable's London and a round of Plain Hunt on 5 (taken on an outing 3 years ago!) on this Wiltshire six. The back five were cast by Abraham Rudhall in 1720; they were rehung and augmented by Taylor's in 1958. They go well and sound pleasant, albeit the low ceiling gives some strange acoustics with sallies filling the rope holes!
Tenor 12-0-8 in F#
Let little boys wear tiaras - the VILE ABOMINATION that is the Church of England.
A frank and plain speaking observation about the Church of England and the filth that they are pushing via their schools. Let me be clear on this brethren - the C of E is NOT CHRISTIAN. If you are in this system, please, get our and get as far away as you can. Nothing can possibly justify this. Speaking out against this is not anythingPHOBIC or hatred. SIN IS SIN.

Cambridge S Major at Stratton St Margaret, Wilts
Stratton St Margaret, once a village in its own right, is now a suburb at the North end of Swindon, and has been inhabited since Roman times. Parts of the church date from the 13th Century and the church is popular for weddings.
The bells, however, are a big disappointment. Aside from the 7th, which is an older bell, they were cast by Mears of Whitechapel at varying periods. They do not sound very nice - the two tenors in particular are buckets - are oddstruck and unrewarding, and can be quite flighty for the inexperienced. However, they are useful for peals as they have excellent sound control!!
The video shows the 7 & 8 being turned over to give an idea of how dire they are, rounds and an excerpt from a quarter of Cambridge on the 8, and finishes with Aaron having a little sanky grab!! :-)
