Walks in Shropshire: Shrewsbury Town Walk
Today I am exploring the market town of Shrewsbury from a newcomer's perspective and imagining that I have travelled in by rail. What might I find.
Shrewsbury is a market town whose centre has a largely unspoilt medieval street plan and over 660 listed buildings, including several examples of timber framing from the 15th and 16th centuries. Shrewsbury Castle, a red sandstone fortification, and Shrewsbury Abbey, a former Benedictine monastery, were founded in 1074 and 1083 respectively by the Norman Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery. The town is the birthplace of Charles Darwin. Horticulture remains popular, and the Shrewsbury Flower Show is one of the largest horticultural events in England.

In a cruel twist of irony, the display in question was dubbed the Shrewsbury Weekend Offender, and featured clothing with a prison uniform twist including a shirt with HMP Shrewsbury written on it.
Co-owner Shezz Sivri believes someone must have seen a thief walking around the town carrying the dummy, worth up to £1,000, and hopes someone comes forward with information.

Exploring Shrewsbury Castle in Shropshire with Harriet and Lola
I am up in Shropshire to meet up with Harriet and her dachshund, Lola. We are exploring Shrewsbury Castle, originally a stronghold built by Roger de Montgomery and later reworked by Thomas Telford.
I am keen to visit Laura's Tower, or should that be bower? She was the daughter of Sir William Pulteney. The little turret tower looks over the rooftops of this wonderful county town and beyond to the Wrekin and Haughmond Hill.
