Honiton is a bustling market town in Devon and the home of the once thriving lace making industry. Although the heyday was in the 17th century, Queen Victoria who had many connections to the area, famously used Honiton lace on her wedding gown. The gown can be seen in all it's fine splendour in the local museum next to the church. Although the lace making industry has greatly declined, there is something of a small resurgence as local people are encouraged to take up the craft once more, for fear of it dying out.
St Paul's Church is very well kept and loved but sadly has been modernised and has lost some of its artifacts and energies, although intrestingly there may be interesting finds within the foundations themselves.
The bloodline connection here is Henry Clarke (or variations of the spelling)

Hidden away off the beaten track this beautiful church is well and truly hidden away in the Devonshire countryside,and very importantly placed within our quests with the knowledge that those who are meant to find it will indeed do so.
There are many Templar symbols within the church, which has an amazing feel to it. The symbols include the Rose Cross, the Red Rose, Red Robes, Red Wings, so red, the colour of blood is very significant here. Also here is the triskelion symbol with the daisys and the 'leaves of hope'.
The bloodline connection here is Sir Robert Clark.

While in Hartland with my daughter Penny, we decided to visit this very old church they have there, and this was a really nice church, one of the best i have ever been in.. Here is what is said about this church online... The Church of St Nectan is the parish church of Hartland, Devon, England. Sometimes referred to as the Cathedral of North Devon, it is located in the hamlet of Stoke, about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) west of the town of Hartland. It is dedicated to Saint Nectan.. Saint Nectan was one of many Celtic hermits and missionaries associated with early Christian sites in south-west Britain, South Wales and Ireland in the fifth and sixth centuries. A well 100 metres from the church is the reputed site of his hermitage.. The history of the area is obscure; however, the first recorded building here was a collegiate church served by twelve secular canons founded ca. 1050 by Gytha, Countess of Wessex (mother of King Harold). Traditionally the church was founded in thanksgiving for the preservation of her husband's life in a storm at sea; a better tradition associates her husband Godwin, Earl of Wessex and holder of the royal manor of Harton, with the foundation..Nothing is known of the earliest building nor whether it was rebuilt or enlarged when the collegiate church was replaced by a house of Augustinian regulars at Hartland Abbey in the twelfth century.. The current building, believed to date from 1360, replaced the earlier church on the site, of which only the font still remains and is thought to date from 1170. The 128 ft tower, rising in four stages, claimed to be the highest in Devon, has for centuries been a landmark to sailors at sea. It was built about sixty years after the rest of the church and it contains a peal of six bells, last rehung in 1952, weighing practically 3 tons. The arch of the tower, open today, once housed a musicians' gallery where the 'church orchestra' of fiddles, double bass, flute and clarinet played for services...

Honiton Armed Forces Day 2010
VE/VJ day Sunday 22nd August at Smeatharpe Airfield nr Dunkeswell. Aircraft and classic car event in aid of The South West Airfield Heritage Trust Charity who aim to preserve the local airfields.
Armed Forces Day 2010 was organised by a number of groups within Honiton

The Allhallows Museum, The South West Airfields Heritage Trust, The Honiton Town Council.
Thank you to support from Supercat, Mr Gosling, The Honiton Town Band, The Air Training Corp, St Pauls Church, Thr Royal British Legion, the many volunteers who stood on vigil for 18 hours during the hours of 6pm friday 25th untill 12pm saturday 26th.
The Brownies, Guides, St Johns Ambulance Members, St Johns Cadets and Badgers, Air Training Corp Cadets.
Thank you for the support from the baton.
Finally thank you to all who attended and participated in the day.

Our regular activities include Parent & Toddlers, Women’s Fellowship and Messy Church on the first Friday of every month. These and other groups are just some of the ways we seek to use our facilities to connect with and serve our community.

Chard is a town and a civil parish in the English county of Somerset. It lies on the A30 road near the Devon border, 15 miles south west of Yeovil. Chard is the southernmost and one of the highest towns in Somerset. Administratively Chard forms part of the district of South Somerset.
The name of the town was Cerden in 1065 and Cerdre in the Domesday Book of 1086. After the Norman Conquest, Chard was held by the Bishop of Wells. The town's first charter was from King John in 1234. Most of the town was destroyed by fire in 1577, and it was further damaged during the English Civil War. A 1663 will by Richard Harvey of Exeter established Almshouses known as Harvey's Hospital. In 1685 Chard was one of the towns in which Judge Jeffreys held some of the Bloody Assizes after the failure of the Monmouth Rebellion.
Textile manufacture was important to the town during the Middle Ages. Chard is the birthplace of powered flight as in 1848 John Stringfellow first demonstrated that engine-powered flight was possible. Percy and Ernist Petter, who formed Westland Aircraft Works, witnessed some of Stringfellow's demonstrations in Chard and often asked for help in the formation of Westland's first aircraft development factory on the outskirts of Yeovil. AgustaWestland now holds the Henson and Stringfellow lecture yearly for the RAeS. James Gillingham developed articulated artificial limbs. Chard is a key point on the Taunton Stop Line, a World War II defensive line.
The Chard Canal was a tub boat canal built between 1835 and 1842. Chard Branch Line was created in 1860 to connect the two London and South Western Railway and Bristol and Exeter Railway main lines and ran through Chard until 1965.
Local folklore relates that the town has a very unusual and unique feature: a stream running along either side of Fore Street. One stream eventually flows into the Bristol Channel and the other reaches the English Channel. Chard Reservoir, approximately a mile north east of the town, is a Local Nature Reserve, and Snowdon Hill Quarry a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest. Major employers in the town include Numatic International Limited and the Oscar Mayer food processing plant. There are a range of sporting and cultural facilities, with secondary education being provided at Holyrood Academy; religious sites including the Church of St Mary the Virgin which dates from the late 11th century.
From 1842 Chard was the terminus of the Chard Canal, a tub boat canal that joined the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal at Creech St. Michael. It had four aqueducts, three tunnels and four inclined planes along its 13.5-mile (21.7 km) length.
