Heartland - a bit of a chancer is a documentary about a catholic priest, Charlie Burrows, OMI, a missionary priest from Ireland, who works in Cilacap, central Java, Indonesia. Father Charlie Burrows came to Cilacap 1973. Since arriving in Cilacap he dedicated his whole life to serving people in Cilacap district, particularly to serve the poor, regardless of their religious background. One of the areas of special concern of the priest is the region Segara Anakan, who is now the Kampung Laut sub district. What about his struggle and his views you can enjoy it on this documentary.

40 yrs on the Road as a Missionary Oblate Priest

This is with great Joy and thanks to God, to my family and all the Oblates for accompanying me over the last 40yrs. I thank God also for so many good people in the parishes and the communities that I was sent to serve. Beginning in Sefton, Sydney and then to Indonesia. First to the formation house in Yogyakarta and then to the Parish of Trinitas in Cengkareng in Jakarta. From there back to the formation house as rector in 1990 to 1996. Then from there I was happy to go to a rather new parish, Kalvari, Lubang Buaya parish for 11 yrs and in 2007 back to Trinitas Cengkareng. What wonderful people to work with and there we were able to achieve a wonderful goal i.e. the building of a new church St mary Immaculate and then finally to have the new parish formed. After that I had 1 year in St. Stephan's Parish Cilacap, Central Java and that was a wonderful time with my long time mentor Fr, Charlie and also Fr. Vincent and Fr. Rukmono. On October the 3rd of 2016 I received a call from Fr. Louie Lougan OMI, Superior General to come to Rome and join the great team here in the Central Government at the General House in Rome.

Dengan sangat gembira and syukur kepada Allah dan khususnya kepada keluarga saya dan para Oblate yang telah mendampingi saya selama 40 tahun sebagai seorang imam Oblat. Saya juga bersyukur kepada Allah kepada begitu banyak umat dan masyarakat yang baik dimana saya diutus untuk melayani. Mulai dari paroki Sefton terus ke misi luar negeri di Indonesia. Tempat pertama saya di Indonesia ada di tempat pendidkan calon imam di Yogyakarta. Terus dari situ saya ke Paroki Cengkareng dan belajar menjadi pastor paroki. Terus tahun 1990 saya kembali lagi ke Yogyakarta untuk belajar menjadi rector seminary/scholasticate. Pada tahun 1996 saya kembali ke Jakarta untuk menjadi pastor paroki Kalvari, Lubang Buaya. Di situ saya belajar menjadi orang yang mengambil bagian dalam masyarakat. Pada 2007 sekali lagi saya kembali ke paroki Trinitas. Di situ bersama umat dan pastor2 rekan diberi berkat yang luar biasa di mana ada Gereja baru dibangun, yaitu Gereja St. Maria Immakulata and petengahan 2015 dijadikan paroki baru di KAJ. Dari situ saya senang diutus ke Paroki St, Sephanus di Cilacap, Jawa Tengah untuk bersama Rm Carolus OMI, mentor saya dan juga Rm Vincent and Rm Rukmono. Pada tgl 3 Oct 2016 dipanggila pemimpin tertinggi rm Louie Lougan OMI untuk bergabung dalam rumah Generalat di Roma dengan tugas sebagai Councillor Asia Oceania. Atas semua anugerah dan tantangan selama 40th saya sungguh bersyukur kepada Allah dan berterimakasih kepada umatnya.
