Ribchester - St, Wilfrid's Church, an Archaeological Dig, and a Roman Bath House - 21/23 Jun, 2019
Wendy, Izzy, William & I spent the day at Ribchester;
... a village and civil parish within the Ribble Valley district of Lancashire, England. It lies on the banks of the River Ribble, six miles (10 km) northwest of Blackburn and twelve miles (19 km) east of Preston. The village has a long history with evidence of Bronze Age beginnings. It is well known as a significant Roman site being the location of a Roman cavalry fort called Bremetennacum, some parts of which have been exposed by excavation. (
Unfortunately I was unable to get any photos/video inside the Museum (which is well worth a visit); but, did get some good photos/video of St. Wilfrid's Church, the ruins of a Roman Bath House, and of an Archaeological Dig that was taking place.

UK Ribchester Revisted: Digging up the Romans!
The Ribchester field school offers students the opportunity to experience excavating a Roman fort. Located in the historic village of Ribchester, within the heart of Lancashire’s beautiful Ribble valley. The auxiliary cavalry fort at Ribchester was established in CE 72-3 on the north bank of the river Ribble, constructed by the twentieth legion, and then occupied by the Ala II Asturum a Spanish auxiliary unit. In the 2nd century the fort was rebuilt and garrisoned by a Sarmatian cavalry unit; a connection which has led some to draw parallels between Ribchester and the mythology of King Arthur. Each of these groups brought their own identity leaving distinctive, but subtle traces in the archaeological record. Click here to learn more:

Hazy Dayz cafe, Sawley Abbey, Ribchester Roman Baths,
- Great food and service with a smile. Definately worth visiting.
Sawley Abbey was worth the visit. A lot of the old ruin is still in tact and you can really get a feel of what it once has been.
A nice little village to walk through aswell.
I would definitely recommend a visit to Ribchester, as you ride though you get a sense of how old the buildings are.

Bellringing at Goosnargh, Lancashire
A burst of Stedman on this nice light six. Another one where the sallies are a bit of a disaster. Some of them have no blue at the top and no red at the bottom! However, nice easy bells and a lovely northern country church, beautifully kept.
London S Minor at Barton St David, Som
Excerpt from an unsuccessful quarter peal attempt of London Minor on this good little 6, rung from the ground floor. Mainly Taylor bells (3-4 by older bells,) they sound good (bar the 4th which is a pan!) and are nice to ring, and an octagonal tower adds a bit of extra interest

Ringing on North Collingham bells, Notts
Ringing Cambridge Minor for harvest festival on this nice six, a Gillett & Johnston part recasting and retune. They are a bit too quiet in the ringing chamber (GF) but are good to ring and have that G&J 'twang' to them. Lovely church too.
