As we all know, this is a place of very high tension and high emotion. And you can understand why when you see that people with a deep and sincere faith in their religions are living side-by-side. There are thousands of years of fighting and hatred, but what I'm hoping is that they can put that aside - that it will be our generation that puts that aside - so that we can all come to the holy land in peace and so that the people who live here, the Palestinians and the Israelis, can live side-by-side in two safe and secure states.

I don't think that happened at all. I think the protests are very expected. If you didn't expect them you wouldn't know what it would be like when you got here. Everyone knows how high the tensions are. Believe me, I was very, very welcomed by most people.

STORYLINE:
US first lady Laura Bush toured an old Crusader church in an Arab town outside Jerusalem on Monday.
Speaking after the visit, Mrs. Bush called for religious coexistence in the Holy Land.
When asked about anti-US demonstrations she had seen during her visit, she said that such protests were expected with such high tensions in the region.
Bush was heckled by anti-US protesters when she visited the Dome of the Rock, a mosque on a hilltop compound known to Muslims as Haram as-Sharif and to Jews as Temple Mount.
Her visit on Monday to the Church of the Resurrection was the last stop in Israel and the Palestinian areas before she leaves for Egypt later on Monday.
The tour is part of her five-day Middle East trip aimed in part at reducing anti-American feeling in the region.
