Real Life Pirate Ship - Nao Victoria - Saint Augustine - Matts Rad Show
Victoria (or Nao Victoria, as well as Vittoria) was a Spanish carrack and the first ship to successfully circumnavigate the world. The Victoria was part of a Spanish expedition commanded by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, and after his death during the voyage, by Juan Sebastián Elcano. The expedition began with five ships but the Victoria was the only ship to complete the voyage. Magellan was killed in the Philippines. The ship was built at a shipyard in Gipuzkoa, with the Basques being reputed shipbuilders at the time, and along with the four other ships, it was given to Magellan by King Charles I of Spain. Victoria was named after the church of Santa Maria de la Victoria de Triana, where Magellan took an oath of allegiance to Charles V in order to be granted full access to the Spice Islands. Victoria was an 85 ton ship with a crew of 42.
The four other ships were Trinidad
San Antonio
Concepcion
Santiago
Trinidad, Magellan's flagship,
Victoria was rated a carrack or nao (ship), as were all the others except Trinidad, which was a caravel.

St. Augustine, Florida
St. Augustine (Spanish: San Agustín) is a city in Northeast Florida and the oldest continuously occupied European-established settlement and port in the continental United States. The county seat of St. Johns County, it is part of Florida's First Coast region and the Jacksonville metropolitan area. According to the 2010 census, the city population was 12,975. The St. Augustine urban area has a population of 69,173.
San Agustín was founded in September 1565 by Spanish admiral Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, and subsequently served as the capital of Spanish Florida for two hundred years. It remained the capital of East Florida as the territory changed hands between the Spanish and British, and remained the capital of the Florida Territory until it was moved to Tallahassee in 1824. Since the late 19th century, its historical character has made the city a major tourist attraction. It is the headquarters for the Florida National Guard.

FIRST MUSTER 448th Anniversary Commemoration
FIRST MUSTER 448th Anniversary Commemoration Filmed September 13, 2013 in St. Augustine, Florida by Presented by the Florida National Guard and Florida Living History, Inc.
Col. David Rodgers talks of an Army project underway to consecrate the parade field in front of the historic St. Francis Barracks with soil from battlefields around the world where the Florida National Guard has fought. The initiative -- spearheaded by Senior Army Advisor Col. David Rodgers and Gregory Moore at Florida Department of Military Affairs (DMA) historian's office -- sprinkled soil samples today September 13, 2013 from nine wars and 15 locations across the globe onto the St. Augustine field on Marine Street. See: for more details.
Also see: floridalivinghistory.org, in partnership with the Florida National Guard and Florida Department of Military Affairs, commemorated the 448th anniversary of the first mustering of America's original citizen-soldiers.
The first muster of militia troops in the continental United States took place on September 16, 1565, in the newly established Spanish presidio of San Agustín de la Florida (present-day St. Augustine, FL).
The First Muster heritage Event took place today at 9AM on the grounds of the Florida National Guard's (floridaguard.army.mil/ ) headquarters in the St. Francis Barracks, at 82 Marine St., in St. Augustine, Florida. This year's Event is the fourth to commemorate that initial muster of America's militia and the birthday of
Florida's National Guard. Florida Living History, Inc., was invited to provide living historians dressed in the garb, and bearing the weapons, of the 16th-century, Spanish citizen-soldiers who formed America's first militia, as well as to discuss and demonstrate the military arts of the period.
In line with his command philosophy of linking the Florida National Guard's heritage to its horizons, Major General Emmett R. Titshaw, Jr., Adjutant General of Florida, has stated that this heritage event is the continuation of a five-year program to educate citizens about Florida National Guard history, culminating in 2015 with the 450th anniversary of both the founding of St. Augustine and of America's first militia.
The First Muster heritage event is sponsored by the Florida National Guard ( floridaguard.army.mil/ ) and by Florida Living History, Inc. (floridalivinghistory.org ).
Financial support for this Event is provided, in part, by the ongoing generosity of NTE Solutions ( ntesolutions.com/ ) and by the continued support of Florida Living History, Inc.'s donors.

Why Do They Call it That - Columbia Restaurant and 1905 Day
Why do they call it the Columbia Restaurant?
Come on in and they'll whip you up a Cuban classic -- just like their great, great, great, grandma used to make.
Let's head back to 1905. Casimiro Hernandez, Sr. had been in America just a couple of years.
He went into business. His target? The empty stomachs of immigrants.
A small corner cafe serving Cuban coffee, Cuban sandwiches, other classic dishes like ropa vieja -- the comfort foods that people knew from their homeland, explained Andrea Gonzmart.
He fit that need for those cigar rollers. And that made them feel like they were at home in Ybor City.
Gonzmart may know this place better than her home.
She's the fifth generation of her family with a hand in this iconic Ybor City eatery.
The original Columbia Cafe covered just a few hundred square feet. It still survives today, almost perfectly intact, as the restaurant's bar area.
Things have changed. The restaurant now covers an entire city block. It goes on through 15 dining rooms with seats for 1,700.
A lot of people get confused, they say, 'Oh, Colombia! Oh, you have Colombian food.' It's Columbia -- C-o-l-u-m-b-i-a, Gonzmart said.
Columbia is an old, old wooden ship. In fact, it was the first American ship to sail around the world.
Legend has it, the restaurant's founders wanted to honor their new country. And at the time, Columbia was a common nickname for the United States.
It's also in the title of a patriotic song popular back then called Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean.
Why do they call it that? Now you know.
Sunday, September 18th, 2011 is 1905 Day at all of the Columbia's restaurant locations. From noon to 7 p.m., prices are cut back to what they were years ago.
The delicious 1905 Salad is $1.95, and Sangria is less than a dollar.
Locations taking part are Ybor City in Tampa, Sarasota, St. Augustine, The Pier in St. Petersburg, Sand Key on Clearwater Beach, and Celebration

The bottom paint is finished and we get our business logo Nauti Mermaid on both of the hulls. We start working on several priority projects as soon as we took over ownership of the catamaran. We re laced the trampoline and installed lifeline netting around the vessel. We were having issues with the heads on the boat so we decided to replace the Jabsco- factory installed inexpensive heads with a higher quality marine head- Raritan. Tomas installed one electric head for our guests and a manual head for us.
We replace out several chafed lines and do several electrical repairs on old wires. We start ordering all the equipment for the business and start moving it all aboard.
And then we travel back to Puerto Rico to attend the DRNA required navigation course. After we finish the week long course we take the ferry over to Vieques, PR. We spend several days in Vieques and try to handle things for the business.
At the end of our trip we go to a beautiful wedding in Condado where Milan was asked to be the ring bearer. We then head back to Florida to hopefully wrap things up with the boat and get her back in the water to do the shakedown from St. Augustine down to Vero Beach.

Ferry from Coron to Manila - Private Cabin 2Go Superferry
We booked a cabin for four in 2go Superferry's St. Agustine of Hippo passenger ship from Coron to Manila. It was a good experience overall, except for the room assignment snafu in the beginning. The cabin cost roughly PHP10,000 for all four of us, or PHP2,500 each (give or take). That's about $50 per person and $200 for the entire room.
