ÁINE TYRRELL* Tin Whistle at The Sunken Church on Inís Oírr
'Morrison' s Jig Filmed at Tempall Chaomhain the sunken church of Inis Oírr FILMED BY: Vicki Rose-Evans Tempall Chaomhain: Saint Caomhan's church, or the ''sunken church'' on the Aran Island Inis Oirr, or Inisheer, West Ireland. St. Caomhán was brother to the great St. Kevin. The church probably dates to the 10th century and is presently sunken in a mound of sand blown across the island over the years. Morrison's Jig: This jig, usually just called “Morrison’s,” gets its name from the renowned Sligo-born Irish-American fiddler James Morrison (1891 – 1947) who, in fact, did not write it. James Morrison learned the tune from a friend, an accordion player and band-mate in NYC, Tom Carmondy * When in Ireland, one should always visit the Aran Islands. When on the Aran Islands, one should always visit The Sunken Church on Inís Oírr. When at the sunken church and one should find a tin whistle in ones back pocket, one should always play! * This was a just another magical day along the roads of Ireland when making my album RETURN TO THE SEA, which are on the road to funding at the moment. We are about 25% of the way there with 9 days to go! This is one of the many sounds of home for me, but my album is full of many sounds of home and I'd love to bring what that sounds like to your ears. Pre-order your CD here:
