Ship NORMAC in St Catharines; was the first Captain John's restaurant boat in Toronto
Views of the MV NORMAC, as seen at the Port Dalhousie Pier Marina in St. Catharines, Mar.18, 2019.
This vessel was built in 1902 as a steamer, serving as a fireboat in Detroit, named James R. Elliott, until being sold in 1930. She was converted into a diesel-powered package and passenger carrier in 1931, for the Owen Sound Transportation Company, serving the Georgian Bay/ Manitoulin Island areas. She was retired in 1968, bought by 'Captain' John Letnik in 1969, and towed to Toronto, finding a berth at the foot of Yonge St. Letnik opened his first Captain John's Harbour Boat restaurant in 1970, operating out of the former Normac until 1981, when Normac sank 2 weeks after being hit by the ferry Trillium. Letnik by that time had also purchased the JADRAN {Captain John's #2} and brought her over to Toronto from Yugoslavia in 1975. For several years prior to 1981 the 2 ships operated right beside each other at the same Yonge St.slip. Due to legal issues, Normac sat partially submerged in the lake for 5 years, and was not raised until 1986. When she was raised, there was no superstructure above her main deck line, so the old form of the Normac was gone. Letnik rebuilt the ship's superstructure into the form seen now, and sold it. Eventually she ended up in Port Dalhousie as a floating restaurant, operating under various names.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today Mike brings us on a tour of Niagara Falls area top rated fish store in St. Catharine's, Ontario. We give you a full guided walk through fish store tour of Petland, a local franchise here in Canada.
This particular location was recommended by several aquarists in the area and has outstanding online reviews so we figured we needed to see for ourselves. We hope you enjoy our aquarium store tour and visit of this interesting little location. They feature a wide variety of pets from aquatic to reptiles and more.
This aquarium shop carries a wide selection of community tropical fish. They have all kinds of tetras, mollies, platys, guppies, angels and all kinds of other little friendly community fish.
There os also a decent marine selection, featuring some of the most popular marine species in the hobby.
The collection is also complimented by several dwarf cichlids species and a few African cichlid and American Cichlid tanks. There are all kinds of rams and mini cichlid species in this store, showcasing several types of common and uncommon ram types.
They also have an assorted selection of African cichlids and have several varieties of mixed peacocks. There is also something for the American cichlid lovers out there as well with a few types of common South and Central Americans, like the Jack Dempsey, convict and Red Devil cichlids.
Though the cichlid selection is not huge, they do have a good variety offered. The staff is very friendly and attentive which makes for a great in store experience. Overall, I was not disappointed with our visit.

THE BEACHES AT PORT (St. Catharines)
Beaches at Port: Luxury in a 19th century maritime village.
Beaches at Port. There's nothing else like it. Modern day luxury is attentively blended within historic surroundings. And it's not just close to the beach, it's actually on the beach at the quiet end of Lakeside Park in historic Port Dalhousie, one of Ontario's largest heritage districts.
The Building: Though the structure is composed of 16-units on six floors, anyone approaching from the street would never know it. Built into a sloped embankment, the street height matches that of other single family homes in the area in conscious respect of heritage values. Surrounded by mature trees and new landscaping, nature is literally at the doorstep. Particular attention has been paid to safety with emergency vehicle access and fully sprinklered floors.
The Neighbourhood: The village of Port Dalhousie started right here, on the beach as a fishing village and as the terminus for the first Welland Canal in built in 1821. Many of the homes are over a hundred years old. And though the village was dominated by industry, almost all of those remaining buildings have been converted into residential housing.
Transportation: Underground parking is offered to tenants, and though there is ample on-street parking, guest may park in the guest lot at the street level and walk a few steps across a bridge over a landscaped ravine to enter your building. For those who wish to take public transportation, the nearest bus stop is only one block away. Restaurant and retail shops are within walking distance and all amenities are within easy driving distance. Plazas and shopping malls, medical offices and our new state-of-the-art hospital are only minutes away as is access to the QEW.
The Views: Beaches of Port offers a choice of water views including sunrise and/or sunset panoramas. East facing units look out across the park, while those facing north offer the expanse of the lake and its distant shores. The skyline of Toronto is visible to all on most days. Set up your tripod for some fascinating time-lapse video.
Recreation: Almost an island, the old village is surrounded by water on three sides. Martindale Pond and the world famous Henley Rowing Course is to the south and was formed as a result of the creation of the Welland Canal. The waters from Twelve Mile Creek flow from the pond, into the harbour and then into Lake Ontario. Sail boats dock at either the Dalhousie Yacht Club or the Port Dalhousie Marina. Recreational rowing, kayaking and canoeing are also watersport options. Fishing from the piers or on the ice in the pond is another pursuit within steps of your domicile.
Walkability: It's easy to meet your neighbours. Just go for a walk through the old town with an option to extend it into the newer subdivisions toward the west. Benches are easily found in parkettes and overlooking the lake. The options are many whether out for a stroll or an invigorating walk. The pier at the opposite end of Lakeside Park is a kilometer long. The harbour walkway from pier to pier can be challenged on foot or enjoyed by bike. The same is said for a trip through nearby Rennie Park and over the walkway bridge to the expansive Ontario Gardens Park. Wherever you may venture, bring your camera because you never know what nature will reveal.

July 25th, 2010 - Biking Short Hills in St Catherine's Ontario
Biking in St Catherines Ontario Canada on July 25th, 2010. Nice mix of uphills, downhills with decent flow. Unfortunately it was after a day of rain so we were bogged down with a little more mud than normal. In the end it was a fun ride with good friends... Footage was shot with my Tachyon XC Micro helmet camera and edited using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.
