St George's Mussoorie - A Visit
I have just spent a week and not much more in incredible India. In those few days I spent even fewer days at St George's College, Mussoorie. Here are some highlights of the place. Not enough time for the people really. Thanks for all who made my momentary stay a memorable one.
All India Shri Naveen Agarwal Ji Memorial Debate
Unison World School hosted the 3rd All India Shri Naveen Agarwal Ji Memorial Inter School English Debate Competition. 13 reputed schools of Dehradun and Mussoorie participated in this debate.
Topic was Law Makers are Law Breakers.
All students expressed their view points explicitly and vehemently. The winner of the event was St. George's College, Mussoorie.
It was followed by an extempore round of Turn-Coat in the lighter vein. The wit of the participants was commendable. Mayank Chauhan, Jaswant Modern School, Dehradun was adjudged as the best speaker For the motion and Aayushmaan Choudhury, St. George's College, Mussoorie was adjudged as the best speaker Against the motion.
Dhanvi Shekhar, Unison World School, Dehradun was adjudged best speaker of Turn-Coat Round.
Chief Guest of the event was Mr. M. C. Gaur, Assistant Surveyor General of India at Survey of India.
Judges were Mrs. Catherine Ince and Mrs. Ruchi Pradhan Datta.

Mussoorie is located at about 36 km from Dehradun. Mussoorie is a hill station in Uttarakhand and is well-connected to Dehradun by roadways. However, the best way to travel from Dehradun to Mussoorie is by car, a journey of over an hour.
Mussoorie is a hill station and municipal board in the Dehradun District of the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is located about 36 km from the state capital of Dehradun and 290 km north from the national capital of New Delhi. This hill station, situated in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan ranges, is also known as the Queen of the Hills. The adjoining town of Landour, which includes a military cantonment, is considered part of 'greater Mussoorie', as are the townships of Barlowganj and Jharipani.
Dehradun is the capital city of the state of Uttarakhand in the northern part of India. Located in the Garhwal region, it is 236 km north of India's capital New Delhi and is one of the Counter Magnets of the National Capital Region (NCR) being developed as an alternative centre of growth to help ease the migration and population explosion in the Delhi metropolitan area. Dehradun is in the Doon Valley on the foothills of the Himalayas nestled between two of India's mightiest rivers — the Ganges river on the east and the Yamuna river on the west.

Landour lies far higher in a more rarified atmosphere, and consists of a small cantonment town contiguous with Mussoorie, is about 35 km (22 mi) from the city of Dehradun in the northern state of Uttarakhand in India. The twin towns of Mussoorie and Landour, together, are a well-known British Raj-era hill station in northern India. Mussoorie-Landour was widely known as the Queen of the Hills. The name Landour is drawn from Llanddowror, a village in Carmarthenshire in southwest Wales. During the Raj, it was common to give nostalgic English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish names to one's home (or even to British-founded towns), reflecting one's ethnicity. Names drawn from literary works were also common, as from those by Robert Burns, Walter Scott, Thomas Hardy, Robert Louis Stevenson and many others.

1. Woodstock School, Mussorie
Established in 1854 by Dr Jonathan Long, Woodstock school is one of the most reputed International schools in Uttarakhand. It is a Co-ed school with students from KG to 12. External examinations include the UK Cambridge IGCSE at Grade 10, and the US College Board Advanced Placement Examinations in Grades 11 and 12.
2. The Doon School, Dehradun
The Doon School is a boys-only independent boarding school located in Dehradun. Founded in 1935, Doon follows Indian Certificate of Secondary Education in tenth grade and thereafter students are offered two strands for the final two years: International Baccalaureate (IB) or Indian School Certificate (ISC). The school houses students from class 7th to class 12th.
3. St.Joseph’s Academy, Dehradun
St.Joseph’s Academy (SJA) offers education from Kindergarten to Class 12th, with five to six sections in each class. It was formally opened on March 1, 1934 and is a co-educational school in Dehradun. It follows ICSE examinations for class 10 and ISC examinations for class 12. SJA has even produced national toppers in ISC examinations a few times.

The Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) is a public school for boys situated in Doon Valley, Dehradun in India.The RIMC is a feeder institution for the National Defence Academy, Indian Naval Academy and subsequently the Indian Armed Forces. Candidates for the school are selected from all over India through a national level competitive exam, the RIMC Entrance Exam that is held twice a year in each state, followed by a medical test. Every year about 50 students are selected in two intakes from all over India and admitted into Class VIII.

Spread across 40 acres of land, Ecole is located in the hills of Shivalik in Dehradun. It is a girls-only school following CBSE and is one of the best school for girls in the country.
6.Doon International School, Dehradun
Though similar in name to The Doon School, Doon International School is from nursery to Class 12. Also, it is a co-educational school affiliated to CBSE. Classes here start around first week of April.
7. All Saints’ College, Nainital
All Saints’ College is one of the top girls school in Nainital. It houses about 800 girls from Class I to Class 12. The school follows CISCE system, preparing students for ICSE examination in class 10 and ISC examinations in class 12.
8. Welham Girls School, Dehradun
Welham Girls’ School is a traditional boarding school for girls located at the foothills of the Himalayas in Dehradun, India. Established in 1957, it follows CISCE board and has evolved over years as a centre of excellence. Notable alumni of the institute includes Kareena Kapoor and Brinda Karat. This is certainly one of the top schools in Uttarakhand!
9. Birla Vidya Mandir, Nainital
The Birla public school is a residential school exclusively for boys. It is affiliated to CBSE and have classes from class 4 to class 12. It was established in 1947.
10. Sherwood College, Nainital
Once called the Nainital Diocesan School, the Sherwood college was founded in July 1869. The college arose as the brain-child of a Dr. Condon, Mr. H.S. Reid and others and under the patronage of the Rt. Rev. Robert Milman. The school is situated on a large, sprawling campus on the Ayarpata hill near the Nainital Lake. The college follows syllabus as directed by CISCE.
