BEAUTIFUL OTIS Series 1 211 Hydraulic Elevator-Shipyard Brewing Shops; Kennebunkport, Maine
First and foremost, this elevator DOES NOT accurately represent the place as a whole. Besides the elevator, the place as a whole is actually pretty nice.
The elevator itself runs fine with the exception of a few occasional creaks. I didn't capture any sort of Classic Leveling, though. The elevator itself seems like it has been vandalized over time, possibly from drunk patrons. Unrelated to vandalism, the elevator seems to smell like beer. This is because the brewery is adjacent to the elevator. Interestingly enough, the beer the restaurant serves is directly from there (I could not consume any of it as I am not yet of age).
This building houses the Federal Jack's restaurant, a major tourist attraction in the Kennebunkport area. They are famous for their Shipyard Ale. They have some pretty good food. I recommend going here if you are in the area.

School Inc. Episode 3: Forces and Choices - Full Video
Ten years after Chile reformed its education system, Sweden followed suit, and so Sweden is Andrew Coulson’s first stop in episode three of School, Inc. All private schools in Sweden are now fully tax supported, and parents can choose between these so-called “free” schools and the local public schools.
The global journey continues, visiting highly successful private schools in Sweden, London and India, where the resistance to education as a business has lessened. Coulson is joined by the administrators of these schools to examine the secrets of their success, learning that some of India’s highly successful private schools serve eager poor students and parents at little more than a dollar a week. School, Inc. comes full circle to conclude in the English countryside where the Industrial Revolution began. Then as now, Coulson suggests, education was perhaps the only field in which successful entrepreneurship was not celebrated. He concludes “What if we allowed all education entrepreneurs to put their own money on the line in an effort to better serve us, gaining or losing just as entrepreneurs do in other fields? And what if we made sure that everyone had access to that wide-open marketplace? Would we then see excellence scale-up in education?

Loud Door Operator! ThyssenKrupp Synergy MRL Traction Elevator-SSB-SCC-Sacramento, CA
(SSB-Student Services Building) This is one of the newest elevators on campus. It's a ThyssenKrupp Synergy with MaD fixtures! The indicators are Signa 4 though. This is an MRL traction elevator that runs very nicely. The cab is a bit basic though. I love the sound that the door operator makes when it opens the door. I find it interesting how the arrow on the floor indicator doesn't show which direction the elevator is moving (not like you can't already tell anyway). It only shows the arrow of direction before the elevator moves. Most indicators show the arrow the whole time.

ch 10) The Other Civil War
chapter 10: A People's History (Of The United States) Howard Zinn.
~
Chapter 10, The Other Civil War, covers the Anti-Rent movement, the Dorr Rebellion, the Flour Riot of 1837, the Molly Maguires, the rise of labor unions, the Lowell girls movement, and other class struggles centered around the various depressions of the 19th century. He describes the abuse of government power by corporations and the efforts by workers to resist those abuses.

Kelly Gravely funking it up with Jeff Sipe Trio at Martin's
Thursday night was another one of those nights in Roanoke. A great band came to town, and very few people bothered to show up and hear it. It's kind of embarrassing sometimes.
Last night's victim of Big Lick apathy was Jeff Sipe Trio, which to be honest, probably should be playing Jefferson Center's Jazz Club series. That's a guaranteed audience, and an audience that would love it. But bless Jason Martin's heart, he will book bands like this at his venue, Martin's Downtown Bar & Grill, so those of us who appreciate the real stuff can come and hear it.
Sipe and his players - Mike Seal on guitar and Taylor Lee on bass - murdered it, as they had in two previous Roanoke shows. And the 20-odd folks in the room were appreciative. Some, including onetime Roanoke Times AV genius Daine Vineyard - in town visiting from Austin, Texas - were crazy for that mess. It was a good mix of original songs from Sipe trio's self-titled CD, Trumpets, Lightning Man and Hometown, with such covers as Weather Report's Teen Town and John Coltrane's Naima (which you can also find on the trio's CD).
Another highlight came late. Kelly Gravely, a Roanoke-based drummer who got to know Sipe on tour, sat in. A couple of years back, when Gravely was playing with Victor Wooten and Sipe was playing with Jimmy Herring, they wound up on shows together and got along famously.
Check out Gravely, scat singing and using his drum sticks and mouth for a funk bit of musical business.

About Mojo Collins:
Not many people have performed with or opened shows for Fleetwood Mac, Janis Joplin and Big Brother & the Holding Company, Steve Miller, Santana, The Grateful Dead, Ike and Tina Turner, Muddy Waters, Leon Redbone, Sly and the Family Stone, Blue Cheer, The Spinners, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, Keith Shealy, and the incomparable Stevie Ray Vaughan. After accomplishing all of this, world renowned guitarist Mojo Collins considers his dues to be paid and is currently living his lifelong dream as a professional singer, guitarist, and songwriter on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. His music continues to receive critical acclaim with airplay in the US and 9 other countries over the last 20 years. Mojo has been the recipient of several prestigious songwriting awards, including the NC Arts Council Fellowship in Music for Songwriting. An active preservationist, Mojo was proud to perform at the dedication ceremony of NC's Jockey's Ridge State Park and the relighting and rededication of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
Mojo's musical career began at age five with his Grandmother teaching him songs on her old Stella guitar. His skills were honed at family jams and lessons given by his father, Wild Bill Collins. Later, he joined the Air Force and was staioned in Montana. Here he wrote much of the material which he would later take to San Francisco with the band Initial Shock. In San Francisco, Mojo and Initial Shock made their way to stage at the legendary Fillmore West and finally to a contract with the king of all rock promoters, Bill Graham.
Sawbuck, the self-titled debut album from Mojo's collaboration with musicians Chuck Ruff, Steve Hatley, Star Donaldson, and Ronnie Montrose, received national attention. In 1971 Mojo relocated from San Francisco to Eastern North Carolina, married, and started a family which now includes 2 sons, their wives, and 6 fine grandchildren!
HIs original music is presented in concert as well as in schools K4 to university, church music education programs, The Lost Colony, Devon to Dare, Make a Preservation, Flight of Magic, and History of Folk and Blues. In 2007 Mojo released Mojo Collins Live. Mojo is currently creating new original works for Opening Act, a rock and blues multi-media touring concert. Enjoy your experience with Mojo online and let the music take along its journey from the 60's music scene of Haight Ashbury, to the legendary Fillmore Records / Fillmore West and all the way back home to the remote beauty of coastal Carolina.
