Touring St. George
A driving tour of St. George, New Brunswick, Canada. Take a trip through the small town of St. George located in the southwestern region of the Canadian province of New Brunswick. Visit the Falls/Gorge and drive through a historic covered bridge. Music by Eddy Gouchie. Recorded on August 2, 2009. Please note: The speed of the video was increase to keep it under 10 minutes... I was actually driving the speed limit.
ST GEORGE GORGE N LEPREAU FALLS NB CANADA
The St George Gorge and Lepreau Falls offer many stunning views and photo ops.
The St George Gorge can be viewed from top and bottom of gorge, and the Town of St. George offers many small country shops and great seafood.
Lepreau Falls has multiple water levels, set among a green healthy forest. If you are there at low tide, there are more walking points for exploring. It is a hardy climb up and down to the beach… wear good footwear for this climb. Usually find fossil prints, which are very interesting and exciting to find.
My family always picnicked and swam here as kids. Both areas have clean washrooms, picnic areas and large parking areas.
In spring, the water levels rise dangerously and run through the dam at an incredible pace as the snow and ice melt here and farther up north. We have even experienced ice jams, but it all eventually calms down to an even flow, still very stunning for videos or photos.
St. George Falls
St. George Power has always been a “run of river” dam. This means that it does not collect and control water in a head-pond like Mactaquac or other NB Power hydro dams. The water that naturally flows from the river turns the turbines in the dam at St. George.

St George Gorge, New Brunswick
St. George Gorge at First Falls is located in the center of the Town St. George. Fresh water from Magaguadavic River falls 21 meters into a gorge that empties into a tidal basin. The west bank is occupied by an electricity generating plant. There is a dam at the top of the falls.
St. George Gorge at First Falls is designated a Local Historic Place for its impact on the development and economy of the Town of St. George.
The impact of this natural element is evident in the number of industries that have taken advantage of its force and convenient position near the center of town. Since 1784, the hydro power from St. George Gorge at First Falls has powered industries such as shipbuilding, lumbering and saw mills, granite works finishing sheds, a pulp mill, and an electrical power plant. The mill building in the St. George Gorge at First Falls is an original 1904 industrial structure built by St. George Pulp Mill. The first dam at the head of the gorge was built circa 1860's for lumbering purposes. It underwent modification in 1880's for the granite industry, in 1902 for a pulp mill, in 1954 for a pulp and paper fiber mill, and in 2004 for an electrical power generating plant.
