Den Bosch In Your Pocket - St. John's Cathedral (Sint Jan)
The bell tower is attached to one of Holland's most famous cathedrals. When you think of old world bell towers you think of narrow passages and stairways and St. John's doesn't disappoint. As you begin your ascent to the top, each floor will reveal another part of the cathedral's evolution from Romanesque to Gothic. Higher up you can also take a look at the intricate system that operates the tower's 68 bells. It seems there's an unending system of wires, ropes, pulleys and countermeasures. Although it's now run by small motors, the system is still impressive and the work that must have gone into running it manually hundreds years ago must have been staggering. Once at the top 43m above the ground you're finally rewarded with a great view of the city. The tour is in Dutch but the whole climb is worth the effort anyway.

St. John's Cathedral, the Netherlands
Visited the structure on Christmas Eve. An elaborate, ancient church dedicated to the Apostle John:
Den Bosch (Netherlands): St. John's Cathedral and surroundings
During a daytrip to Den Bosch last year, I also visited the well-known St. John's Cathedral with it's beautiful pipe-organ and had a quick look at the marketplace with its stalls and hundreds of things which were sold there.
Want to know more about this city visit the city's homepage which is also available in English:
The Catholic St. John's Cathedral of 's-Hertogenbosch is the height of gothic architecture in Brabant, the Netherlands and was built in 1559. It has an extensive and richly decorated interior, and serves as the cathedral for the bishopric of 's-Hertogenbosch.It also received the honorary title of basilica from Pope John Paul II.
Unfortunately, the cathedral suffered a fire in 1584. Restoration didn't start until a second fire occurred in 1830. Ever since 1859 to the present day the city of Den Bosch has been busy with restorations, save two pauses between 1946 to 1961 and then again between 1985 to 1998.

st Janskathedraal den Bosch the Netherlands
The Cathedral Basilica of St. John Evangelist, [commonly referred to as the St. John's Cathedral, in the city centre of's-Hertogenbosch is often considered the climax of the Brabant Gothic. Particular harmonious interior is the result of the unity of style that the entire construction period from late fourteenth to early sixteenth century continued to maintained. The outside delivers with his generous ornaments, such as the double flying buttresses with the 96 luchtboog figures and the reliefs above the Windows, a striking image of the trim drift of the late Gothic. The Sint-Jan ' an edifice that is totally unique in the Netherlands, in ecclesiastical architecture. The Saint John is on the corner of the Parade and the Tower Street, which is the main entrance, impresses by its size and wealth of sculpture. Originally built as a parish church, the Sint-Jan in 1366 to Collegiate Church and Cathedral of the new diocese in 1559 to's-Hertogenbosch
On June 22, 1929, the Saint John granted the honorary title of Basilica. The building has the shape of a cross Church, more specifically a cross basilica. In the Sint-Jan are a richly decorated, 350 kilos copper baptismal font from 1492, a three-part altarpiece from the beginning of the sixteenth century with carved scenes from the passion of Christ, that with six on either side painted panels can be closed, a pulpit from the middle of the same century with carved scenes. The nearly twenty meters high organ-case dates back to the beginning of the seventeenth century and is considered to be ' a work of art by Royal allure, though the most beautiful organ fronts in the world. ' [3] the renaissance organ itself is, retaining many parts, in 1784 converted into a full fledged eighteenth-century instrument.
The Church is among the Top 100 of the Rijksdienst voor de monumentenzorg and counts as the so-called Whopper monument, a qualification that since the year 2000 when the national Government is in use in the distribution of financial resources earmarked for the benefit of restorations
St John's Cathedral Den Bosch
The Cathedral of St. John (Sint-Janskathedraal) of 's-Hertogenbosch is the height of gothic architecture in North Brabant, Netherlands. It has a total length of 115 and a width of 62 metres. Its tower reaches 73 metres high. A Romanesque church used to stand on the spot where the St. John now resides. Its construction is thought to have started in 1220 and was finished in 1340. 's-Hertogenbosch - the Dutch Den Bosch is worth a trip HD
In may 2013 we spent a saturday in Den Bosch the capital of the province of North Brabant in the Netherlands. There are many ways to see this beautiful city. Our favourite way was not by boat, how 150 000 visiters in a year. We walked trough the city and enjoyed the lively Market Square, the canal network called the Binnendieze below the old city, Saint John's Cathedral, Noordbrabants Museum, City rampart, many old buildings, pups and restaurants in the alleys and the Bastionder museum, enjoy !
