Sankt Lambertus is one of four Roman Catholic churches in Düsseldorf 's Altstadt district . Your Kirchweihfest forms the spiritual background of the Biggest Fun Fair on the Rhine . It is probably the oldest building and a landmark of the historic city center. The history of a previous building - probably under the patronage of Kanonissenstifts Gerresheim and the Abbey of St. Ursula in Cologne - is a deed Pope Adrian IV. Occupied on May 23, 1159, the origins are still a long way before that date. On the site of today's church was a Romanesque court chapel, which was raised to the parish church in 1209 under the replacement of Old St. Martin in the village of Bilk .
In connection with the Battle of Worringenand the city survey Düsseldorf by Adolf V. von Berg in 1288 a collegiate was built here and the Lambertuskirche as a collegiate church in this course the title of the Assumption ( Beatae Mariae Virginis assumtae ) awarded. Pope Nicholas IV gave his consent with Breve of September 9, 1288 and commissioned the establishment of Adolf, the abbot of Siegburg , since Siegfried von Westerburg , the archbishop of Cologne, was prevented by his imprisonment. As a parish church , the church is dedicated to St. Lambert , a martyr who was murdered in 705 in Liège .
The altar houses a shrine containing relics of St. Apollinaris , who has been worshiped as the patron saint of Düsseldorf since 1394 . The silver-plated shrine is a gift from Duke Philip William from the year 1665. In Kirchenschatz further located a Romanic head reliquary , the contents of either the Hl. Candidusor to which St. Vitalis is attributed.
The tomb of Duke Wilhelm V of Jülich-Kleve-Berg in the middle of the hallway 's hallway represents the most important work of art of the Renaissance in Düsseldorf. Wilhelm was a follower of humanism in the imprint of Erasmus of Rotterdam and one of the most important rulers of the noble family Mark .
On May 15, 1614, the ruler, Count Palatine and Duke Wolfgang Wilhelm , in the Lambertus Church, then still the church of the court of Jülich-Berg , solemnly proclaimed his conversion to Catholicism , with the support of the Catholic League in Jülich-Klevischen succession dispute his claims to power to back up.

Saint Lambert - A Gothic Jewel with a Twisted Tower
(English below)
Saint Lambert is a gothic basilica with three naves and a mainly baroque furnishings in the old town. With its twisted belltower near the Rhine shore it is a symbol of the capital of North Rhine Westphalia. It is supposed to be the oldest church in Düsseldorf's historical centre (construction time: 1288-1394), but there are some older churches in more distant districts.

Düsseldorf - Altstadt (D), Kath. Päpstl. Basilika St.Lambertus - Vollgeläut ohne Lambertusglocke a°
