MUNICH: ASAM CHURCH, ROCOCO and BAROQUE STYLE gone completely mad here (GERMANY) ⛪
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go to Bavaria in Germany and let's visit the world famous Asam Church which is a Baroque church in Munich, southern Germany, built from 1733 to 1746 by the brothers, sculptor Egid Quirin Asam, and painter Cosmas Damian Asam as their private church. It is considered to be one of the most important buildings of the southern German Late Baroque.
Munich, Bavaria’s capital, is home to centuries-old buildings and numerous museums. The city is known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration and its beer halls, including the famed Hofbräuhaus, founded in 1589. In the Altstadt (Old Town), central Marienplatz square contains landmarks such as Neo-Gothic Neues Rathaus (town hall), with a popular glockenspiel show that chimes and reenacts stories from the 16th century.

Things to do in Landshut, Germany Travel Guide
The following video will highlight the best things to do in Landshut.
Landshut is a city by the River Isar in Bavaria, southern Germany. It’s well known for the Trausnitz Castle, with its views across the old town.
We stayed in Landshut by accident as we booked accommodation in Munich in the wrong month - the accommodation that was left was either super pricey or pretty crappy. So we booked ourselves into Landshut, which is only a 50 min train ride away from Munich.
What to do in Landshut:
1. Walk down Altstadt
2. Walk down Neustadt
3. Enjoy a late afternoon stroll by the river
4. Walk to Trausnitz Castle and check out the beautiful views over the old town.
5. Visit St Martin's Church
We hope you enjoyed our Landshut trael guide.

Beautiful Landshut Germany and visitng small towns
I visited the picturesque town of Landshut in Lower Bavaria, which I didn't know was in Lower Bavaria or was so beautiful before going there for a visit. Germany has many of these small towns that will surprise you when you travel around visiting them.

28 Munich Churches
From our 2016 trip to Europe.
A fun, modern mushroom fountain is in the plaza outside the 15th c. Frauenkirche. Pope Benedict served here as Archbishop of Munich before moving to Rome. The organ music you hear is from a service inside the church. The church’s twin onion-dome spires are a well-known Munich landmark.
Heilig Geist Kirche dates to the 14th c. but was remodeled in the 1700s with Rococo frescoes and stucco ornamentation by the Asam brothers (more about them in a minute).
Theatinerkirche dates to the 17th c. with it’s classic Italian Baroque interior.
St Michael’s was one of the first great Renaissance buildings constructed north of the Alps. This Jesuit church, dating to the late 1500’s, has an ornate façade incorporating a statue of St Michael battling a demon. Many think the “demon” represents Lutheranism since the Jesuits were the Catholic defenders of the faith against the upstart Protestants, and St Michael’s was their northern bastion. We visited the ornate Baroque interior during a church service and enjoyed listening to the organ which you hear during this portion of the video.
Asamkirche was more of an artist’s portfolio than a normal church. If you were in the market for a new church building in the 1700s, you might come here to see all the decorative options offered by the Asam brothers who were renowned for their extravagant Baroque designs. They built this compact 30-foot-wide church in 1740 to display their wares, cramming it between two other buildings. Outside, the foundation stones pack a punch, and the legs dangling over the portico are a nice touch, as are the starbursts and carved relief panels on the door -- so put those on your order form if you’d like those on your own church building. Inside are myriad statues of angels & saints, plenty of fancy stucco work, gilded garlands, lots of faux “marble” (a special paint job) and the illusion of a dome painted on the flat ceiling. On the way out, the gilded grim reaper reminds all who visit of their mortality as he cuts the thread of life.
St Peterskirche is the oldest church in town (c. 1368). On the exterior, a number of 16th and 17th c. tombstones were plastered into the church walls when the churchyard graves were relocated outside the city walls in the Napoleonic era. The interior is typical Bavarian style, filled with light, and sporting white-washed walls with pink, blue, and gold accents. The nave is lined with bronze statues of the apostles. The altar shows St. Peter being adored by four church fathers. The ceiling painting opens up to heaven where the church’s patron saint hangs crucified upside down.
The video ends with a series of still photos.
