This video took over three months to film as climatic conditions are not always conducive to the requirements. ie. A fair, steady wind in the right direction, bright sunshine and blue skies with cotton wool clouds. The right conditions never last, very frustrating. The last flag was filmed on 11.3.12 !! What you see is what you get, not what I would call perfection, but I cannot control the weather!! The National Anthem sung at the first Diamond Jubilee Party, 8th February at St. Martins Church Hall, Ruislip.

Archaeologists dig up 6,500 bodies to make way for HS2 railway

Archaeologists dug up 6,500 bodies from an ancient burial ground while making way for the HS2 railway station in Birmingham. Footage shows a team of 70 experts completing the controversial excavation of the 19th-century site over a 12-month period where the Curzon Street station is to be built. Archaeologists are now starting to examine the skeletons in closer detail, alongside artefacts discovered including figurines, coins, toys and necklaces. Nameplates were also found and the team will combine research of historical documents, such as parish records and wills, with analysis of the skeletons, to develop detailed biographies of the individuals. The time-lapse footage shows the graves of each individual being dug before its contents are removed. Findings from the sites have already identified evidence of diseases including scurvy and rickets. Park Street burial ground was opened in 1810 as an overflow cemetery for St Martin-in-the-Bullring and stayed open for only 63 years. The sight was closed to public burials in 1873. Claire Cogar, Lead Archaeologist from MOLA Headland, said: “The careful and fascinating excavation of Park Street burial ground is telling us a great deal of the effects of life in 19th-century Birmingham on the population. “We hope to build a picture of the lives of the people who built Birmingham and made the city what it is today, from the diseases they suffered and what they ate, to where they came from. “Our initial findings have already identified evidence of diseases including scurvy and rickets. “We have also found interesting objects placed in burials. One burial contained a bone-handled knife, another had a figurine and others contained dinner plates. “These finds provide insights into the types of burial rituals, traditions and practices of the 19th-century.” Another plot contained a bone-handled knife, others contained dinner plates and one had a figurine. After their research has been completed, HS2 bosses say the remains will be reburied at a suitable location in consultation with the Church of England. Northwood is an elevated residential settlement in the London Borough of Hillingdon adjoining Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve and which shares a northern border with Hertfordshire. Northwood was used for location filming of the Goods' and Leadbetters' houses and surrounding streets in the BBC TV situation comedy series The Good Life.

Northwood was first recorded in 1435 as Northwode, formed from the Old English 'north' and 'wode', meaning 'the northern wood', in relation to Ruislip. In 1086 at the Domesday Book the Northwood-embracing parish of Ruislip had immense woodland, sufficient to support one parish with 1,500 pigs per year, and a park for wild beasts (parcus ferarum).

Northwood, however, elevated and separated from the rest of the parish by a belt of woodland, took until the 19th century to form a village — 350 acres (140 ha) in the manor of St. Catherine's were inclosed under the first Middlesex Inclosure Act in 1769 privatizing land which lay west of Ducks Hill Road, including West Wood (now Mad Bess Wood) which was common ground. A further 3,000 acres (1,200 ha) of Ruislip parish were inclosed in 1804. The character of the area in providing for Northwood and Ruislip Hills to have the majority of open spaces as opposed to housing land was begun by transfers of open space land to the public as early as 1899.

Northwood post town extends into two contiguous neighbourhoods in Hertfordshire named Eastbury and Moor Park the south of which share use of the Moor Park tube station (that has fast trains into the centre of London for commuters). A triangular area of Northwood including the old High Street, Chester Road and Hallowell Road is a place of Local Architectural Special Interest, a restriction to protect the ornate Victorian houses made of high quality brickwork. Dotted across the area are 22 listed buildings (for their architecture).

Northwood Hills includes Haste Hill and is separated by green buffers on almost all sides, though touches Eastbury Village to the south and had a population of 11,441 in 2008 according to the Office for National Statistics. Northwood Grange incorporates a 15th-century block with a crown-post roof, a cross-wing of the same date, and a long range of about 1600.

The area is served by Northwood, Northwood Hills and Moor Park London Underground stations, on the Metropolitan line. The area is also served by Transport for London contracted bus routes 282, 331 and H11, connecting the area to Ruislip, Harrow, Northolt, Denham, Greenford, Uxbridge and Ealing Hospital. The area is also served by Arriva Shires & Essex route 8 connecting the area to South Oxhey, Watford, Leavesden and Abbots Langley.

As can be seen the string of Union Flags attached to premises, were put up without consent of the owners. Much later the Council asked for payment. This from a bank and another shop. There was not much house decoration to be seen. Although there quite a few street parties. Sadly the local police station removed their Union Flag after Remembrance Sunday 2011, but did nothing to join in the National celebrations. There really is no viable excuse.

100 Years - The Battle of the Somme 1916 - 2016

A very poignant tribute by the Royal British Legion, Ruislip Branch, to the thousands of soldiers who died at the Battle of the Somme, 1916 – 2016. The service was held at St. Martin’s Church, Ruislip 8pm, 1st July 2016 to a ‘full church’, followed by a reception at the the Royal British Legion's base in Ruislip, Middlesex.

The birth of a new flag

A new flag has appeared in Ruislip above the Sacred Heart Church, Ruislip Manor. The flag was produced by the Chief Executive of the Flag Institute Mr Charles Ashburner of mrflag.com for donedw a member of the Flag Institute who presented it to The Sacred Heat Church.

Eastcote House Walled Gardens

Eastcote House Walled Garden had a fun day on Sunday 1st May to give people a chance to meet the Hawtrey family. The family are renowned philanthropists in and around Ruislip, there are family graves in the aisle of St. Martin's Church, up near the main altar, that gives some idea of the length of time they have been associated with the area. Sorry, I did not meet them, came too late!!
