08.12.2007 - Celebrating the Macedonian national holiday in Tetovo, Republic of Macedonia to honour the medieval ethnic Macedonian scholar and writer, Saint Clemens of Ohrid/ Kliment Ohridski (ca. 840--916).

Kruševo - Republic of Macedonia (2)
Kruševo is a small but picturesque town. Located in South-Western Macedonia, Kruševo is situated at an altitude of 1350 m and in this way the highest town in the Balkans. The chance guest will not be wrong if they stayle Kruševo as a museum of old architecture. The town is full of old and more recent houses built in the style of old Macedonian architecture.
Each year on Ilinden day, the town wears a festival look. On the balconies and at the windows of all the houses shaggy hand woven blankets (jambolii) in all kinds of colours are exhibited. STORYLINE:
Searchers on Friday located the wreckage of a plane crash that killed Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski and eight other people and were clearing a path through a minefield to reach the bodies, the Macedonian government said.
The plane carrying Trajkovski crashed on Thursday in heavy fog in a remote, mountainous corner of Bosnia still sown with mines from that country''''''''s 1992-95 war.
The death of Trajkovski, a 47-year-old moderate leader who helped unite his ethnically divided country, comes at a critical time for a nation still tense after its mostly Muslim ethnic Albanian minority took up arms in 2001 in a fight for greater rights.
Trajkovski was widely respected for his neutral stance in the former Yugoslav republic. He had called for a greater inclusion of ethnic Albanians in state bodies and institutions and had been widely hailed for his efforts to get both sides to live together in peace.
Bosnia and Macedonia declared Friday a day of mourning with flags in the Macedonian capital, Skopje, flying at half-mast. In the city''''''''s church''''''''s candles were lit in memory of the president.
Trajkovski was born in 1956 in the Macedonian village of Strumica. As an adult he would return to his childhood home during the summer holidays and for the main annual carnival.
Neighbours described Trajkovski as gentle, intelligent and wise and a man who never forgot his roots.
Trajkovski earned his law degree in the capital, Skopje. He entered politics in 1998 and served as deputy foreign minister on the ballot of the centre-right party of former Prime Minister Ljubco Georgievski. He was elected president in November 1999, only the second president in Macedonia''''''''s history.
One of Trajkovski''''''''s biggest tests came in 2001, when Macedonia''''''''s ethnic Albanians launched an insurgency to fight for more rights for their minority, which comprises a quarter of the country''''''''s two (m) million people.
Through six months of bitter fighting, Trajkovski calmly steered the nation toward the Western-brokered peace deal that ended the conflict and urged reconciliation between the two ethnic communities.
