WALES IS THE BEGINNING
We left Heathrow and headed out in driving rain for Lacock Village and Lacock Abbey where we would have time for lunch and to visit. It was a beautiful dry afternoon. As we headed further, the rain again pelted the buses.
We went to a really nice hotel in the outskirts of Cardiff called the Copthorne Hotel. Meals were buffet style. It was the place we stayed for two nights. Don gets us up early to travel! We loved the first castle. I was surprised it was in downtown Cardiff! What a challenge for me to climb to the top of the Keep! I did it. I have pictures to prove it! Our trip to the Llechwedd Slate Caverns was just perfect. It was wet on the top of Mt Snowdon. I was happy to have purchased a neck warmer that kept my head warm as well. I am resolute to try all that I had never thought I could do! Summit on Mt Snowdon was a second challenge! May you set challenges and goals to accomplish as you lose weight and gain control of your life.
Dorset beaches, water, piers, churches & countryside - Bournemouth, Boscombe & Dorchester (V2.1)
Morning, sunsets & evening shots taken around Dorset as part of my 4K drone explorations to find unique things to see in Bournemouth, Boscombe, Dorchester, Westbay, Lyme Regis and other coastal areas. I've had my drone for 6 months now and travelled through Spain & Lapland getting shot but luckily live in Dorset where we have fantastic beaches, cliffs & bays for filming. That said, my favourite shots are of early evening with manmade lighting against natural sunsets / skies.
In the video, I filmed:
Maiden Castle in morning mist from Poundbury
Fields / motorways around Dorchester in mist
Waves / cliffs at Westbay
Kitesurfers at Chesil Beach / Portland
Bournemouth beach
Boscombe beach / Boscombe pier in early evening
Bournemouth pier by night
Poole Bay marshes (day)
Westbay cliff (day)
Portland coastline by sunset
Abbotsbury chapel by sunset
Bournemouth coastline (day)
Bournemouth pier (night)
Watch out for the ambulance!
Good thing I always check right even while pulling away... though I'd heard the siren previously the ambulance was in a side street and invisible... arguably he should have used the other two-tone as he approached the turn but not blaming him...
The unsolved murder of Peter Ashleigh Watts in 1976
42 years ago, 15-year-old Peter Ashleigh Watts, left his home at Woodhill Road, Colwyn Bay, leaving a note to his parents saying that he was planning to help a school friend with homework, and would return home soon.
Peter then went to purchase a ticket from his local station on the North Wales coast, to the city of Chester, where it is believed he boarded the 5:15 Holyhead to London train, but did not alight at Chester.
His family never saw him alive again.
At around 1:30am, on Monday January 19th, 1976, Peter Watts was found in a state of collapse, obviously badly injured, with broken ribs and bleeding profusely from a head wound, in the middle of the Euston Road underpass in London, about one half mile from Euston Railway station.
Ambulance driver Valerie Ann Savage said that when she arrived at the scene, she found Peter 'unconscious and exhibiting the classic symptoms of a fractured skull'.
Peter was rushed to the nearby University College Hospital by ambulance, where all attempts by medical staff to save him failed.
He died within an hour.
A subsequent post mortem examination gave the cause of Peter’s death as ‘head injuries consistent with a fall’.
It was recorded that there were no marks on Peter’s body to indicate he was pushed from the bridge nor was there evidence to suggest that had been involved in a struggle, nor was there evidence of any kind of sexual assault.
In fact, his clothing appeared to have been freshly laundered, ill-fitting and that his body had been ‘scrubbed clean’, the Coroner, Dr Howard Baderman remarked “that it was as though the teenager had just been bathed”, and “that there were no scuff marks on the clothing or fragments of dirt in the head wound”.
His watch, wallet, comb and his spectacles were missing, and were never recovered.
The verdict was recorded as being ‘murder by person, or persons unknown’.
Following the inquest, Peter’s father said; ’I think he may have been abducted, He was a friendly boy, easy with people and I don’t believe that he went of his own free will.’
Peter’s funeral service at St Pauls, was attended by senior pupils of Eirias High School - the school Peter attended - and as they left the church many of the girls wept as they followed the coffin to the waiting hearse.
Also in the congregation were senior police officers from the North Wales and Metropolitan Police forces, who heard the vicar say, “I do not think we would gain very much by reflecting now, or at any other time, on the circumstances leading to Peter’s death - we can confidently leave that to the police and the press. Here, perhaps we should pay tribute to them, for their considerable assistance and understanding during these recent sad days.”
The vicar also said that many people were also asking themselves what was happening to society at this present time.
“Why was it that so many teenagers, adolescents and elderly people too, left home on an innocent jaunt, whether to the local swimming baths, or to Chester or London and fell victim to some heinous and unsuspecting crime. It might be argued that such incidents were rare but attack, mugging and murder had become the stock in trade of so many people, that such incidents were happening with increasing frequency.”
Following the service at St Pauls, Peter’s body was cremated at Bron y Nant, Colwyn Bay.
The Murder of Peter Ashleigh Watts remains unsolved.
