Vatican City officially the Vatican City State or the State of Vatican City (Italian: Stato della Citta del Vaticano;[e] Latin: Status Civitatis Vaticanae), is an independent state located within the city of Rome. With an area of 44 hectares (110 acres), and a population of about 1,000, it is the smallest state in the world by both area and population. However, formally it is not sovereign, with sovereignty being held by the Holy See.
It is an ecclesiastical or sacerdotal-monarchical state (a type of theocracy) ruled by the pope who is, religiously speaking, the bishop of Rome and head of the Roman Catholic Church. The highest state functionaries are all Catholic clergy of various national origins. Since the return of the popes from Avignon in 1377, they have generally resided at the Apostolic Palace within what is now Vatican City, although at times residing instead in the Quirinal Palace in Rome or elsewhere.
The Vatican City is distinct from the Holy See (Latin: Sancta Sedes), which dates back to early Christianity and is the main episcopal see of 1.2 billion Latin and Eastern Catholic adherents around the globe. The independent city-state, on the other hand, came into existence in 1929 by the Lateran Treaty between the Holy See and Italy, which spoke of it as a new creation not as a vestige of the much larger Papal States (756–1870), which had previously encompassed much of central Italy. According to the terms of the treaty, the Holy See has full ownership, exclusive dominion, and sovereign authority and jurisdiction over the city-state.
Within the Vatican City are religious and cultural sites such as St. Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museums. They feature some of the world's most famous paintings and sculptures. The unique economy of Vatican City is supported financially by the sale of postage stamps and tourist mementos, fees for admission to museums, and the sale of publications.

In the belfry at St Peters, Thornton, Leicestershire
The pretty village church of Thornton, Leicestershire has a tower and spire which is home to a ring of three bells.
1,2 John Taylor & Co 1939
3. Thomas Hedderly I 1757
The inscriptions on the previous 1 and 2 were reproduced in facsimile on the new bells when cast in 1939, the frame and fittings also are from this date. The open spire means that the frame and bells have weathered a bit, but they are still easy to ring. There's plenty of room left in the tower as well!
Episode33 - Ambras Castle.m4v
Just southeast of Innsbruck town is Ambras Castle. This Renaissance palace was originally a medieval castle and it was renovated by Archduke Ferdinand the 2nd for his wife in the mid-1500s.
Its extensive grounds are replete with beautifully manicured gardens. There's even a 17th-century fake waterfall. And not to be forgotten, there are resident peacocks.
The armory and the curiosities collection feature the archduke's assortment of the beautiful and the bizarre, like stuffed sharks and ancient Portuguese frocks.
The beautiful Spanish Hall, which was built between 1569 and 1572, has an intricately carved wooden ceiling. The 27 life-size portraits of Tirolean princes make this hall a memorable visit back to the glory days of Ambras. The Spanish Hall is also a popular venue for classical music concerts.

Salzburg Cathedral Austria.
Salzburg Cathedral (Salzburger Dom) is the seventeenth-century Baroque cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Salzburg in the city of Salzburg, Austria, dedicated to Saint Rupert and Saint Vergilius. Saint Rupert founded the church in 774 on the remnants of a Roman town, the cathedral was rebuilt in 1181 after a fire. In the seventeenth century, the cathedral was completely rebuilt in the Baroque style under Prince-Bishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau to its present appearance. Salzburg Cathedral still contains the baptismal font in which composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was baptized.
Saint Vergilius of Salzburg constructed the first cathedral possibly using the foundations of St. Rupert. The first Dom was recorded in 774. The so-called Virgil Dom was built from 767 to 774 and was 66 metres long and 33 metres wide.
Archbishop Arno (785 – 821) arranged the first renovations of the Dom, less than 70 years after its completion. In 842, the building burned after a lightning strike. Three years later, work began to rebuild the structure.
Under Archbishop Hartwig, the sanctuary expanded to the west with addition of a choir and crypt between 1000 and 1080. Archbishop Konrad I added the west towers from 1106 to 1147.
This original church, thus experienced at least three extensive building and rebuilding campaigns during the early Middle Ages, the final result of which was a somewhat ad hoc Romanesque basilica. In 1598, the basilica was severely damaged, and after several failed attempts at restoration and reconstruction, Prince-Bishop Wolf Dietrich Raitenau (Archbishop from 1587–1612) finally ordered it demolished. Wolf Dietrich was a patron and supporter of modern Italian Baroque architecture, having seen it from its origins in Italy and particularly Rome. Indeed, it was Wolf Dietrich who was also responsible for the building of the nearby Alten Residenz, which is today connected to the cathedral.
Wolf Dietrich hired the Italian architect Vincenzo Scamozzi to prepare a plan for a comprehensive new Baroque building. Construction did not begin however until Wolf Dietrich's successor, Markus Sittich von Hohenems (Archbishop from 1612–19), in 1614 laid the cornerstone of the new cathedral. Santino Solari designed the current cathedral by dramatically altering the original Scamozzi plan. The new sanctuary was completed 1628, less than 15 years after construction began. At its consecration on September 24, 1628, 12 choirs positioned in the marble galleries of the cathedral sang a Te Deum (the score of which is since lost) composed by Stefano Bernardi, the Kapellmeister to the Salzburg court. The present Salzburg Cathedral is built partially upon the foundations of the old basilica. Indeed, the foundation stones of the preceding church building may be seen in the Domgrabungen, an excavation site under the cathedral that also features mosaics and other artifacts found when this location was the forum of the Roman city Juvavum. One other surviving relic that predates the baroque edifice is the 14th Century Gothic baptismal font. The relics of Saint Rupert were transferred here when the cathedral was completed.
The finished church is 142 meters long and 33 meters high at the crossing/dome. The baroque style of St. Rupert's can be seen in the choir and the nave.
The Salzburg Cathedral was damaged in 1944 during World War II when a single bomb crashed through the central dome over the crossing. Repairs were somewhat slow to take place, but restoration was complete by 1959.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was baptized here on January 28, 1756, the day after his birth.

Church bells ringing in Salzburg Austria
Places to see in ( Bolzano - Italy ) Duomo di Bolzano
Places to see in ( Bolzano - Italy ) Duomo di Bolzano
The cathedral of Bolzano , dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, is the most important church of the city of Bolzano and co-cathedral of the diocese of Bolzano-Bressanone ; in German it is called Dom Maria Himmelfahrt or Bozner Dom or even Propsteipfarrkirche Bozen. In the fall of 1948 , with the restoration of the Cathedral of Bolzano severely damaged by Allied bombing in 1944 , were found under his paving the foundations of three churches, which they dated from the fourth century AD to the XII century and was found a tombstone with Roman inscription.
The foundations of the oldest church date back to the fourth century AD and was probably consecrated to San Vigilio , since many early Christian churches in the surroundings were consecrated to him. The building had a rectangular plan, was 38 meters long and 14 wide and was divided into three rooms thanks to partitions. The side walls of the church were equipped with 8 buttresses. The basilica was built according to the Eastern construction typology, widespread in the area of Noricum , a Roman province corresponding to what is now Austria , and in the area of Aquileia , to which the basilica in question referred. The basilica had an atrium in the western part, where perhaps a holy water font was placed, and had a presbytery counter. It was a circular construction placed in the area of the altar where the priests could take their seats. Near the basilica there was a small burial ground , testified by the tombstone of Secundus Regontius, dating back to the III century AD Costui is the first inhabitant of Bolzano whose name is known. Later, towards the VI-VII century, the church was restructured, as evidenced by the filling of the walls left empty by the buttresses.
By the will of the Prince Bishop John Michael Spaur in 1717 it was founded the chapter of (in clerics ted. Stiftskapitel or Kollegiatstift), which as of 1723 was administered by the provost with miter, so called because on solemn occasions wore miter, ring and stick to the abbot (the German word is infulierter Propst , or provost encircled by the fulma ). The last provost with miter was Josef Kalser , while the most famous Bolzanino canon was Michael Gamper .
In the left aisle of the church is preserved the Renaissance epitaph by Wilhelm III von Henneberg - Schleusingen, who died in Salorno in 1480 . The plaque, notable for its expressiveness and artistic quality, was commissioned to the sculptor Erasmus Forster, sculpted at Gardolo near Trento and placed in the cathedral in 1495 - 1496. In the choir of the cathedral is the tombstone of Ranieri Giuseppe d'Asburgo-Lorena , viceroy of the Lombard-Veneto Kingdom , who died in Bolzano in 1853 .
Since 2010, the cathedral has a special carillon of bells (Glockenspiel), the work of the artist Ivo Radakovich of Egna made by the famous Grassmayr foundry of Innsbruck . It has 25 medium-small size bells that perform different melodies every Saturday and Sunday at 11.00 am.
In 2007 , the Cathedral Museum (Dommuseum or Domschatzkammer Bozen) was set up in the doming of the cathedral south of the church, which showcases the cathedral's treasures and offers a historical-didactic itinerary on the city's ecclesiastical history.
( Bolzano - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Bolzano . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Bolzano - Italy
