Perranporth is a small seaside resort town on the north coast of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. Perranporth is popular with surfers and tourists because of its spectacular beach, and Atlantic swell.
Perranporth is 6 miles (10 km) southwest of Newquay and 7 miles (11 km) northwest of Truro. Perranporth and its 3 miles (5 km) long beach face the Atlantic Ocean. The village's modern name comes from Porth Peran, the Cornish for the cove of Saint Piran, the patron saint of Cornwall. He founded St Piran's Oratory on Penhale Sands near Perranporth in the 7th century. Buried under sand for many centuries, it was unearthed in the 19th century.
Perranporth is centred on a main street, St Piran's Road, part of the B3285 Newquay to St Agnes road. The village centre has various shops and cafés including a Co-operative store, Premier convenience store, the Camelot restaurant and seven pubs. The long-distance South West Coast Path runs past the village. There is a long-distance coach service provided by National Express (service 316) which runs between London and Perranporth.
Perranporth is a popular family holiday destination. A wide sandy beach, Perran Beach, extends northeast of the town for about 3 km (nearly 2 miles) to Ligger Point. The beach faces west onto Perran Bay and the Atlantic Ocean and is a popular surfing location. There are lifeguard beach patrols from May to September and the beach is generally safe for bathing, although there are dangerous rip currents around Chapel Rock at ebb tides.
At the south end of the beach are cliffs with natural arches, natural stacks and tin-mining adits. There is a youth hostel above the cliffs at Droskyn Point. Nearby is the 19th century Droskyn Castle, formerly a hotel and now divided into apartments.

This film made on 23rd Nov 2014 shows the opening day at St Piran's Oratri near Perranporth. This was the first time it had been open to the public since being uncovered by archeologists. It had been covered over in 1980 to protect it from the sand and flooding. The concrete outer walls are from the original protective building in 1910 - I understand that this is, in itself, a listed structure!!! St Piran's Oratri is the oldest 4 walled Christian structure in Great Britain having been built in the sixth century.

A student documentary movie and a report on the travels of students - Kateřina Hassmanová and Lucie Javůrková from the Czech University of Life Sciences who visited Cornwall, the westernmost tip of England. The shire is a mixture of Cornwallian pride and Celtic roots. And thus a new culture is born.

Both daughters (and dogs) join me to knock off another section of the North Cornwall coastal footpath, this one carries on from (almost) where the last left off in the summer, near the dunes of St Piran's Oratory. 92% of all elements can be found in Cornwall and the green copper staining can clearly be seen among the reds, blacks, yellows and greys of the rocks in this area.
Many of you will have heard of the sad news that Joe Robinet's dog Scout has terminal Lymphoma and only weeks to live. Scout has been, is and always will be an integral part of his channel. So in my small way I'm dedicating this film to Joe, his family and Scout.

St Piran's Day (Cornish: Gool Peran) is the national day of Cornwall, held on 5 March every year. The day is named after one of the patron saints of Cornwall, Saint Piran, who is also the patron saint of tin miners.

St Piran’s church was rebuilt at the end of the Georgian era on a new site. The original structure was taken down from Perran sands and brought to the present site, having been engulfed by sand. Much of the medieval structure has been incorporated within the building.
St Piran’s Church is arguably the most significant church in Cornwall because of its direct connection with St Piran, the patron saint of Tin Miners. The churchyard contains the original stone cross fashioned, as legend has it, by St Piran himself, to sit on the original 5th Century oratory.
The graveyard also contains the significant war graves of those who lost their lives at Penhale Camp in the second World War.
