Olomouc - Saint Wenceslas Cathedral, Czechia - Czech Republic [4K] (videoturysta.eu)
[EN] Saint Wenceslas Cathedral in Olomouc is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Czechia. The interior and exterior of the cathedral is very historical and impressive. It was founded in 1107 so it was a Romanesque church, but after a fire in 1265 it was completely rebuilt in the Gothic style. At the end of the 19th century several Neogothic additions were made to make it look even more awesome. It is located at some distance from the town center (a 10-15 minute walk from the old town).

St. Wenceslas Cathedral in Olomouc
Here we can see the cathedral in Olomouc named after St. Wenceslas (sv. Vaclav) as well as the walk to the cathedral from the main square.
The southern tower is 100.65 metres in height and is the highest church spire in Moravia (and the second highest in the Czech Republic). The three-aisled hall of the church comes from the original medieval layout. The Gothic pillars of this hall come from the 13th century. A presbytery with dimensions of 35 x 23 was originally created as an early Baroque part of the building. At the end of the 19th century, this presbytery, together with all the interiors and exteriors, was rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style. Two staircases lead from the presbytery down into a crypt. On the south side of the church, there is the entrance to the St. Stanislaus Chapel. Tombstones from the 16th and 17th century are situated on each side of this entrance. By one of the pillars is a Neo-Gothic altar with a reliquary with the relics of St. Jan Sarkander, who was canonised by Pope John Paul II in 1995.
Construction on the Church of St. Wenceslas was begun prior to the year 1107 by the Olomouc Appanage Prince Svatopluk and the Church was consecrated in 1131 by Bishop Jindřich Zdík. Gothic reconstruction took place after a fire in 1204, from which the pillars and the hall character of the building are still left. Bishop Stanislaus Pavlovský had the St. Stanislaus Chapel built over the years 15821591 on the south side of the church. The beginnings of Baroque construction in the Czech Lands saw the building of an early Baroque presbytery over the years 16161618 carried out at the bequest of Cardinal Franz von Dietrichstein. The monumental impact of the presbytery with dimensions of 35 x 23 metres lost none of its effect even after the Neo-Gothic reconstruction of the Cathedral that took place in the years 18831888 as a result of the initiative of Archbishop Friedrich von Fürstenberg. The Archbishops head engineer Gustav Meretta designed and partially carried out the regothicization of the church. The Cathedral has been a Bishop or Archbishop church throughout the entire period of its existence. Additionally, it has been a locale where important historical events, for not only the town but for the wider region, have taken place. These include for example the year 1469 when part of the Bohemian and Moravian lords along with town representatives declared here the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus King of the Czech Lands.
Olomouc became one of the most important settlements in Moravia in the Middle Ages. The city itself was founded in mid-thirteenth century and became one of the most important trade and power centres in the region. In the Middle Ages it was the biggest town in Moravia and competed with Brno for the position of the capital. Olomouc lost finally after the Swedes took the city for eight years (1642-1650).
The second half of the fifteenth century is what can be viewed as the start of Olomouc's golden age. However, during the Thirty Years' War, in 1640, Olomouc was occupied by the Swedes for eight years. They left the city in ruins and so it ceded its position to Brno. Olomouc was then fortified by Maria Theresa during the wars with Frederick the Great, who besieged the city unsuccessfully for seven weeks in 1758. In 1848 Olomouc was the scene of the emperor Ferdinand's abdication, and in 1850 an important conference between Austrian and German statesmen called Punctation of Olmütz took place here. At the conference German Confederation was restored and Prussia submitted its leadership to the Austrians.

Olomouc - The Astronomical Clock show at the noon, Czechia - Czech Republic [4K] (videoturysta.eu)
[EN] In the very center of the Old Town of Olomouc you can find very interesting astronomical clock from the fifteenth century, rebuilt several times, situated on the northern side of the Town Hall. This clock springs into life at noon, so you can watch it and hear it.
The current appearance is the result of modifications from 1955, so the clock is made in the style of socialist realism, for example the figures that surround the clock face are depictions of workers.

[PL] W Ołomuńcu, w samym centrum Starego Miasta znajduje się bardzo interesujący zegar astronomiczny z XV wieku, kilkakrotnie przebudowywany, usytuowany po północnej stronie ratusza. Ten zegar ożywa w południe, można go wówczas podziwiać i słuchać jego dźwięków.
Obecny wygląd jest wynikiem modyfikacji z 1955 r., tak więc zegar jest wykonany w stylu socrealizmu, na przykład postacie otaczające tarczę zegarową są wizerunkami robotników.

CZECH REPUBLIC: Beautiful and historic Olomouc (Olomóc)
Olomouc, Czech Republic, my best photos. Vic Stefanu, vstefanu@yahoo.com. Olomouc is a city in the eastern province of Moravia in the Czech Republic. It’s known for its 6 baroque fountains and the 18th-century Holy Trinity Column, a monument adorned with religious sculptures. On Wenceslas Hill are the Gothic St. Wenceslas Cathedral and the Romanesque Bishop’s Palace. The Town Hall is a former merchant's house with vaulted rooms and an astronomical clock.
