Built by the Portuguese in the 16th century in their colonial enclave of Thane (Tana) on the west coast of India, the Church of St.John the Baptist stands tall more than 430 years later. This is the story of the Church's biggest restoration project in its history.

St. John the Baptist Church is an abandoned and ruined church presently located within the SEEPZ Industrial Area, in Andheri (Mumbai). It was built by the Portuguese Jesuits in 1579 and opened to public worship on the feast of John the Baptist that year. It also had an attached graveyard. The church was abandoned in 1840 after an epidemic hit the village. Fr. José Lourenço Pais, the then Vicar of Kondivita transferred the church to the nearby Marol village. The baptismal font, pillars and altars were transferred to the new church.
After abandonment, the church fell into decay and vegetation started to take over the ruins. Despite being abandoned, the native Christians visit the church once every year, as is traditional worldwide.

We find our-selves not a little sad, for we will be leaving behind people that shaped our life and a place that is as much a part of our identity as the name I bear.....
We will miss the delightful smells from the chemistry lab that waft their way through the ground floor. Most of all, we will miss the very heart of our experience as a student; our friends and our teachers. Thank you teachers, for all that you have taught us - lessons that extended well beyond the four walls of a classroom.
Thank you, all our classmates, for wonderful years - for all the fun, the hysterical laughter and the valuable lessons we learned. Although we may be separated by time and distance in the interim, nothing will diminish the important role that you have and always will play in our lives.

St. John the Baptist Church. It was built by the Portuguese Jesuits in 1579.
This Particular story is fairly spooky, mainly for the reason that there is only one common lore surrounding the area that's widely believed. Originally said to have been abandoned during an Epidemic in 1840, the church also has a Graveyard attached to it. The haunting however, is said to be due to a Bride's Spirit who Tormented those who Trespasses on her site. An Exorcism held in 1977 to rid the place of the Spirit is said to have Culminated with the wails of a woman, ending with a splashing sound from a nearby pond where the Bride's Spirit ran and jumped into the pond, when the exorcism held's.
Apparently that was the Bride's Second Death.
