Bermuda Vacation 1961 ~ Taxi Tour & Views from the Bermudiana Hotel
Arrival over Bermuda then a stop at the Elbow Beach Hotel on South Shore – on the patio where the Café Lido complex is now. An active quarry (now Quarry Hill in Warwick – not much left.)
Rough seas on South Shore, a stop at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse than on to Somerset with stops at Ely’s Harbor, St. James Church and a quick glimpse of a horse and cart from a taxi. A stop outside of the Irish Linen Shop’s original location in Somerset Village.
A flying boat sighting, boat races in the sound and a quick view of Hamilton across the harbor (Bermuda Fire & Marine Insurance headquarters under construction). Lower ferry arriving.
Botanical Gardens then St. Paul’s in Paget.
In the stocks at Town Square, St. Georges. View of the shipwreck and the footbridge to Ordinance Island. St. Georges Harbor. St. Peters Church then back in the cab to Fort St. Catherine, the historic beach and Gates Bay. Back in the cab heading through Black Watch Pass to the Bermudiana Hotel.
Some footage looking inside the room with a reflection of the Bermuda Fire & Marine building steelwork under construction and the view of rooftops West towards the old Hamilton Princess Hotel then East over Hamilton. Interior of room, then outside the Hotel, walking along Pitts Bay road. Alboy’s Point looking at the docks of Front Street.
Its Christmas time, “Pre-Birdcage” Christmas tree above the turning circle, Policeman directing traffic at the junction of Front & Queen streets.
Bermuda Vacation 1959 ~ Elbow Beach Mopeds & Steel Drums, Flying Boat's and a Food Truck!
A 1959 Bermuda stay at the Elbow Beach Hotel - Renting Mopeds and a practice ride - no helmets. There are some great mopeds scattered throughout this film. Wobbling and waving on a very empty Harbor Road, a quick stop to enjoy the windy views.
Cocktails at the bar inside Elbow Beach and a quick stop at the pool. A parking lot full of mopeds - with a sporty helmet - then a shot of The Waterfront restaurant on East Broadway.
A stop at the dock looking out at Pomander road and a green Trimingham Hill. Then we are on a green lawn at the back of town? looking towards the Anglican Cathedral (any idea where?). Back on the bike, then sporting Bermuda Shorts walking by the guard house..
A quick stormy stop at the pool then it looks like friends are dressed with luggage packed.
A Steel Drum Band plays outside (any idea?) then its Hamilton outside the Bermuda Pharmacy at the Russell Eve building.
Enjoying a cool soda or mineral on Pitts Bay Road, at a really clean lunch cart! Wooden Coca Cola crates on the back. Off on a Chris Craft cruise, past the old Miles complex and the Hamilton Princess, the old Belmont Hotel and waterfront houses including one with a personal water catch (any idea?). Past NOB, flying boats on dock and close pass of a flying boat on the move.
A pass under Somerset bridge takes us to the wreck of the Vixen and it looks like a cooler of swizzle may be the refreshment on the trip home which also passes the figurehead Neptune when it was parked at Admiralty House.
A wave goodbye at the Bermuda Air Terminal before boarding an Eastern Airlines aircraft, some aerial footage at the end.

SUMMARY
=======
Bermuda () is a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is approximately 1,070 km (665 mi) east-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina; 1,236 km (768 mi) south of Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia; and 1,759 km (1,093 mi) north of Cuba. The capital city is Hamilton. Bermuda is self-governing, with its own constitution and its own government, which enacts local laws, while the United Kingdom retains responsibility for defence and foreign relations.
Bermuda's two largest economic sectors are offshore insurance and reinsurance, and tourism. Bermuda had one of the world's highest GDP per capita for most of the 20th century. The island has a subtropical climate and lies in the hurricane belt and thus is prone to related severe weather; however, it is somewhat protected by a coral reef that surrounds the island and its position at the north of the belt, which limits the direction and severity of approaching storms.
