My Good Lord's Done Been Here - Brooke Spicer - - Lycoming College Choir 2018 Graduation Concert
Senior Brooke Spicer performs My Good Lord's Done Been Here during the 2018 Lycoming College Choir Graduation Concert on Friday, May 11, 2018. For more on the choir, visit
My Good Lord's Done Been Here is an African-American spiritual arranged by Rollo Dilworth. The accompanist is Jeff Johnson.
Directed by Dr. Daniel Hall, the Lycoming College Concert Choir is the largest of three choral groups at Lycoming College. The Concert Choir is comprised of students from all academic fields and is open to every student who loves to sing. The choir's repertoire consists of both sacred and secular music ranging from classical standards to new works by contemporary composers.
The Lycoming College Choir serves the school body by supplying music for every major school event on campus. In its seven decades, the choir has performed hundreds of concerts, including appearances at the National Cathedral, the Washington Shrine, the Crystal Cathedral, Coral Ridge, and New York City's St. John the Divine and St. Patrick's Cathedral. The Choir also gives frequent performances during Sunday services at Williamsport-area churches, including First United Methodist, Pine Street United Methodist, St. Mark's Lutheran, and St. John's United Methodist. In addition, the Choir often hosts and performs with visiting college choirs, such as various friendship choirs from Europe, and with local orchestras.
The Lycoming College Tour Choir, which is selected by annual competitive audition from the Concert Choir, has a long history of quality performances throughout the United States and the world. Since its inception in 1947 by Walter McIver, the choir has presented concerts in every state east of the Mississippi River, Texas, California, Canada, Puerto Rico, Argentina, China, and throughout Europe. The choir tours nationally each year and internationally every three years. In May 2016, the Tour Choir traveled to China for the first time, performing concerts in Shanghai and Beijing and holding workshops with a number of secondary schools' choirs.
During tours, the choir also visits and collaborates with high school and volunteer choruses in addition to its performing schedule. This type of educational outreach is central to the choir's goal of creating a greater sense of community among all levels of music education.
Lycoming's third and smallest choral ensemble is the Chamber Choir, an auditioned group that performs a diverse repertoire ranging from vocal jazz to major works. The Chamber Choir has been featured twice in the Holiday Celebrations at the White House, and the ensemble has sung with the Gregg Smith Singers, the Chieftains, and Barry Manilow.
Dr. Daniel K. Hall is only the school's fourth director of choral activities in the history of the 70-year-old program. Dr. Hall previously served as director of choral activities at Ohio University and West Texas A&M University, and led choirs from both schools on frequent tours of Europe. He is also an actively commissioned composer whose works have been widely featured at festivals and conventions. Dr. Hall has a D.M.A. in conducting from the University of Miami, an M.M. in conducting from Brigham Young University, and a B.A. in voice from Weber State University.
Lycoming College is a four-year independent coeducational college of 1,400 students enrolled in 36 majors. The College is ranked by U.S. News and World Report as a national liberal arts college. Located in Williamsport, PA, the college is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
The Lycoming College Music Department offers a major and minor in music and oversees the college choirs, orchestra, and band. Whether students choose to major or minor in music, or to be involved in one of the choirs, Lycoming’s liberal arts education encourages students to combine their love of music with other majors and interests. Regardless of major, students have the opportunity to take a variety of courses, including theory, music history, and electronic music. Advanced courses, such as composition, conducting, and special topics in music, are offered specifically for music majors. Lycoming hometown of Williamsport is a musical city with its own symphony orchestra, civic chorus, community band, and ballet, and is an ideal location for students with an interest in music.

J. Glyn Owen - Preparation 1

In 1820 the first Presbyterian congregation in Toronto (then the Town of York) was formed, and after the donation of land from Jessie Ketchum, built a church on Richmond Street. This church was known as First Presbyterian Congregation of York, Upper Canada, and James Harris (later to be Ketchum's son in law) became minister.
In 1830, the larger St. Andrew's Church was founded, and it quickly became the city's primary Presbyterian Church. St. Andrew's was aligned with the Church of Scotland; the Canadian Synod was formed in 1831.
This Richmond Street church was more evangelical, and had become independent of the United Synod of the Canadas in 1834, and remained apart from any other group (including the United Presbyterian Church of Scotland who started their Toronto congregation in 1838) until 1844.
In 1843, the Church of Scotland split, when many of the evangelicals led by Thomas Chalmers, withdrew to form the Free Church of Scotland, in a dispute called the Disruption of 1843. This dispute hit the Canadas the following year at the respective Synod Meetings in Kingston and Nova Scotia; a faction broke off from St. Andrew's, who remained in the Auld Kirk.[1]
This group was approached by the York congregation, and the two groups decided to join and become a stronger and united Free Church congregation presence in Toronto that they named Knox's Church, after the Scottish Church reformer John Knox; they called an experienced minister from Paisley, Scotland, Rev. Dr. Robert Burns, to become their first minister. Burns was the former Secretary of the Glasgow Missionary Society, a friend of Chalmers, and uncle of another well-known minister and missionary, William Chalmers Burns. Burns was initially a lecturer, then later full-time professor, in the nearby Knox Free Church Theological College. Mr. Harris retired from the York congregation, and remained connected with the congregation until his death in 1874.
In 1847 the old York Church was destroyed by a fire. The congregation built a new larger church on the same lot, this time facing Queen Street West between Yonge and Bay. Knox quickly became the leading Free Church congregation in Canada, helping to spread the movement throughout the colony. One of the most prominent members of this church was George Brown founder of the Toronto Globe and also the Banner, and an eventual member of the Fathers of Confederation, upon formation of the Dominion of Canada in 1867.
The Knox church building from 1847 to 1895[2]
From the split (the disruption) in the Church of Scotland and in the Canadas, Knox took an active role in the reunion of all the Presbyterian groups in Canada. In 1861, the Free Church of which Knox belonged to, and the Canada Synod of the United Presbyterian Church of Scotland joined; and in 1875, the Presbyterian Church in Canada, uniting the Auld Kirk and Free Kirk.
Over time, Knox's location had become more commercial with fewer residents in the area. At the time Toronto had strict Lord's Day laws that prevented public transit from running on Sundays, making it imperative that churches be located near to the population.
In 1895, the church was severely damaged by a fire that began at the Robert Simpson Building next door. This fire destroyed the steeple, which was never fully rebuilt. It was eventually decided to move the church in 1906, and in January 1909, the church officially moved into its present home at 630 Spadina Avenue just west of the University of Toronto, at Harbord Street; the memorial stones cited in the enclosed article (1886 Profile), were also moved into the new building.
The mixed Romanesque Revival and Gothic Revival building was designed by congregation member James Wilson Gray.
In June 1925, Knox was instrumental in maintaining the continuity of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, as it was from this building, that the midnight vigil was held, led by the 79 Ministers and Elders who voted against the consummation of the union (in nearby College Street Church) that formed the United Church of Canada, as they maintained continuity with their General Assembly. As a congregation, Knox had voted against Union earlier that year, by a vote of 20-788. There were gains to the congregation from some of those in the surrounding congregations that went into the Union.
In the 1950s, the congregation was challenged to leave the community, as post World War II suburban expansion greatly affected Toronto, and the Spadina Expressway (later abandoned) was proposed to run along Spadina Avenue. Under the leadership of Rev. Dr. William Fitch, who arrived in early 1955 from the Springburn area of Glasgow, Scotland, the congregation built an adjoining hall (Knox Fellowship Centre) in 1961, and expanded its ministries into the inner city (Evangel Hall at 573 Queen Street West had been run by Knox since 1913), the Universities (including Ryerson and York,

Thunderbolt and Lightfoot 1974 ( FILMING LOCATION ) Clint Eastwood Jeff Bridges
FOLLOW ME ON FACEBOOK
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot is a 1974 American crime film written and directed by Michael Cimino and starring Clint Eastwood, Jeff Bridges, George Kennedy, and Geoffrey Lewis.
The film was shot in 47 days from July to September 1973.
It was filmed in Fort Benton, Wolf Creek, Great Falls, and Hobson. St. John's Lutheran Church in Hobson was used for the opening scene.
Eastwood did not like to do any more than three takes on any given shot, according to co-star Bridges. I would always go to Mike and say 'I think I can do one more. I got an idea.' And Mike would say 'I gotta ask Clint.' Clint would say, 'Give the kid a shot.'[12] Charles Okun, first assistant director on Thunderbolt, added, Clint was the only guy that ever said 'no'. Michael said 'OK, let's go for another take.' It was take four, Clint would say 'No we got enough. We got it.' [...] And if [Cimino] took too long to get it ready, [Clint] would say, 'It's good, let's go.'
Joy to the World: A Gospel Anthem
This favourite Christmas carol gets a fresh gospel feel in this new arrangement from Joanna Mills. Perfect for school holiday concerts and Christmas church services, choirs of all ages will enjoy the easy gospel feel and fun call-and-response format, which builds to a triumphant vamp ending. Set in an accessible key, this arrangement can be sung as a 2-part choir with solo(s), or as an SSA choir, and the simple harmonies make this a quick arrangement for most choirs to learn.
Joanna Mills is the Gospel Choir Director at Roncesvalles United Church in Toronto, Canada, and has been writing and arranging choral music for 15 years. Her compositions and arrangements are performed regularly by her own choir and others around the world.

-- --
Etta James made many appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival across her long and distinguished career from her first concert in 1975 through to her last in 2008.
This video focuses on the concert from 1975. It features many of her best loved tracks and songs that she is particularly associated with. Etta James was one of the most respected performers of her generation. In a career stretching over 60 years she was inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame and the Blues Hall Of Fame, won 3 Grammys and received many more nominations and was named Female Blues Artist Of The Year on no less than 14 occasions.
Etta James sadly passed away after a long illness in January 2012 and this video is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest female vocalists of the 20th century.

We spoke to three Masons at the United Grand Lodge of England, the governing body of Freemasonry in England. The United Grand Lodge of England has around 200,000 members meeting in over 7,000 Lodges throughout the country. We asked the three Masons about how they were introduced to the secretive society, what their initiation ceremonies were like, and what perks they receive as members.

Victoria West
Victoria West, commonly called Vic West, is an historic neighbourhood of the city of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, located just west of downtown across Victoria Harbour, bordering on the Township of Esquimalt.
When the Hudson's Bay Company arrived in Victoria in 1842 to establish Fort Victoria, the neighbourhood now known as Victoria West was the site of a village of the Songhees, the aboriginal people of the Victoria area. The Songhees called the Gorge waterway Camossung, named for a girl who turned to stone at the Gorge tidal rapids. Songhees longhouses once extended from Songhees Point to beyond the present day Johnson Street Bridge. The Songhees people were relocated in 1911 to permit industrial development of Victoria West.
Much of the residential and early commercial development of Victoria West occurred in the 1890s up until 1913. Residential development was facilitated by the arrival of streetcar service in 1890. While a few expensive homes were located in the neighbourhood, particularly in the area of the Gorge waterway, much of the development in the area was for working-class families.
The Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway line passes through Victoria West, and the roundhouse was located in the neighbourhood. In addition, at one time there were as many as seven shipbuilding companies in the area.
The largest and grandest of the homes built along the Vic West shore of the Gorge was Burleith, the residence built in 1892 by James Dunsmuir, son of Robert Dunsmuir and set among 20 acres (8.1 ha) of lawns and gardens. While Burleith has been demolished, Roslyn, another smaller grand home remains on Catherine Street. Built in 1890 in the Queen Anne style for Andrew Gray, manager of the Albion Iron Works, Roslyn made an appearance in the movies when actor Bruce Dern leapt from an upstairs balcony.
In 1924 the Johnson Street Bridge bascule bridge was constructed linking Downtown Victoria with Vic West. A second bridge, the Bay Street Bridge, stands where the Point Ellice Bridge was located. On May 26, 1896 an overloaded streetcar of holidaymakers celebrating Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee caused the Point Ellice Bridge to collapse, killing 55 people. The Point Ellice Bridge Disaster is the worst transit accident in Canadian history.
As industry left the area in the latter part of the 20th century, an opportunity for redevelopment of the former Songhees lands presented itself, and from the late 1980s condominium development along the harbour facing Downtown Victoria has resulted in an influx of population and spurred redevelopment of other parts of Victoria West, a process that continues with developments such as Dockside Green, the Railyards project and Bayview Place.
Amenities in the area include the Victoria West Community Centre, churches and other services.
In 1984 Spinnaker's brewpub opened on Kimta Road off Esquimalt Road. The Westsong Way, a pedestrian walkway, winds along the shore around Songhees Point, offering views of Downtown Victoria and James Bay across the harbour. Parks and open space also include Victoria West Park, Banfield Park, Barnard Park, and Raynor Park.
The area is served by Victoria West (Vic West) Elementary School.
