San Roque NHS Alburquerque, Bohol History
San Roque Barangay High School now San Roque National High School’s first year of operation was in 1972. Rev. Fr. Margarito R. Gonzaga, the Municipal Mayor of that time initiated the move to open a Public Secondary School in Alburquerque to serve Basic Secondary Education to the majority of the residents/folks whose little income could hardly finance expensive private education in the nearby Municipalities of Loay, Baclayon and even the schools in Tagbilaran. Since then, the school became the show window of the community where DepEd Programs and Projects were implemented with the strong support of all stakeholders.
San Roque National High School is located in barangay Eastern Poblacion, Alburquerque, Bohol, twelve kilometers away from Tagbilaran City. It is along the national highway between Loay in the East and Baclayon in the West. It caters not only the graduates of the different Elementary Schools of Alburquerque district but also some Elementary graduates from Loay and Baclayon.
Its first teacher was the retired Schools Division Superintendent Mrs. Norma S. Varquez, who also handled classes of special children in the Elementary. A month after, Mrs. Eufemia A. Israel, Miss Leoncia Dumagan and Mr. Romeo Dagodog came to compose the team of teachers to make San Roque Barangay High School moving. The years moved so quickly and fastly that even an Alburanon who was then a ten (10) year old boy and now at his early 50’s could hardly describe in detailed the secrets on how the school survived despite insufficient resources to finance its daily operation.
Now, the school stands with pride and prestige with concrete buildings harmonizing the school site, a living testimony of the long years pursuit for educational excellence and greatness and to continue embracing the challenges that come. With the strong support from both internal and external stakeholders, San Roque National High School will be moving towards a smoother and wider path for the fulfillment of its vision, mission and goals.
