Duck Puddle Campground - Maine RV Adventure
Our full time RV Family hits the Duck Puddle Pond RV Campground in southern Maine for a week after exploring Bar Harbor and Acadia. We spend the week decompressing, enjoying the water, and end the week with a Lobster Bake, live music, and a massive bonfire.
We break out the new stand up paddle board and an Intex Raft to enjoy the lake during our stay.
Duck Puddle Campground is actually not located on Duck Puddle Pond, as I thought when making this video, but next door on Pemaquid Lake, which is within walking distance. The name of the campground and looking at google maps had confused me! It is technically in the midcoast region of Maine, about an hour and a half from the Bar Harbor area we stayed at previously.
We give this campground 5 out of 5 stars. Even with a small site and uneven ground, it was worth our visit and we will return.
This week we're in Southern Maine leaving Bar Harbor behind in Acadian National Park in our rear-view mirror, we head down at Duck Puddle Pond, which is an RV campground. A small little family run place that is absolutely everything that we were looking for. This has got to be one of my top 10 campgrounds I've ever visited even if the camp sights weren't perfectly level and the campground wasn't brand-spanking-new, they just had all the character and amenities and the community that you'll look for in the summer time if you're looking to have some fun and play out on the water and then socialize with some other campers.
So we've been living on the water, moving around and I've been loving fishing and we decided we were going to get some water toys. So we got Crystal a stand up paddle board that's inflatable so it just folds right up and then once we inflated it, actually I was amazed by how nice it actually was and how quality it actually was for just a few 100 dollars having a stand up paddle board that we can bring around with us without having a giant size of a stand up paddle board that we'd have nowhere to put. It was awesome. And then I've been wanting to do more fishing and I decided to get a raft. So I decided to get one of these Intex inflatable rafts that you can put a little trolling motor on that we can take out fishing but the kids loved it so we decided to take it out, fill it up and take it out for kind of a test run in the lake and just had a blast. Duck Puddle Pond Campground has a swimming area, they have a slit for boats, they have canoes that you can rent and take out.
They got dinghy’s you can take out fishing. There are people that have their bass boats there. They even got some of the cabins even have their own little tiny private docks so beautiful quaint little campground in the southern part of Maine that really is just, if you're somewhere like Massachusetts it's just a few hours drive away and man if we, you know, I gotta tell you I'm considering maybe some years from now going back and getting a seasonal spot in that campground 'cause that really was just a ton of fun. If you're planning to visit Maine just realize that there is water everywhere. There are lakes and ponds and streams and creeks and rivers and of course the ocean just all over the coast of Maine.
So bring some water toys or make going out on the water part of your adventure like just plan on it because if you're planning to see Maine, then you need to make water a part of it. It's such a big part of the experience. It's incredible how warm the water actually was. I mean, it felt like in a lot of ways like taking a bath and it wasn't until you got like five or six feet under the water that it actually got cool. So it was really really really comfortable and Crystal is really loving her new paddle board. She's not really used to standing up on it yet but she's learning, and she's brave, I'll tell you that much. I mean I'm terrified of standing up on something like that. There's nothing else quite like being surrounded by beautiful wilderness.

The Maine Beaches
Maine beaches come in many sizes and shapes. White sand ocean beaches cover much of the southern Maine coast and dot the rest of the 5,500 miles of Maine coastline. By day, beaches are teeming with people building sandcastles, body surfing, searching for seashells and just soaking in the sun. In the evening, the low rumble of the surf crashing upon the shore offers a soothing backdrop for a romantic stroll.
However, saltwater beaches only present half of the beachgoing opportunities in Maine. With 6,000 lakes and ponds, fresh water beaches abound. Maine's municipalities and state parks boast a variety of beaches where families can refresh themselves in crystal clear lakes surrounded by lush green forests. Many of the state parks provide additional amenities such as grills, picnic tables, playgrounds, restrooms, snack bars, campsites and nature trails, making them the perfect place to spend one or more days.

RVing Tips | 3 Tips for traveling up the East Coast with your RV
3 Tips for traveling up the East Coast with your RV
Our Blog post
The summer of 2017, we took our 40' 5th wheel up the East Coast starting in central Florida mid-March, traveling all the way north to Maine. We zig zagged up the coast, making it inland as far west as Tennessee and Kentucky. Along the way we learned a lot more about traveling in a RV, and thought about things we could share with other travelers thinking about making a similar trip.
Here are 3 Tips for traveling the East Coast in an RV
1. Plan ahead, but be flexible in your planning.
2. Take a good look at your budget and add 15% to 20%!
3. Route Planning
Although we didn't see as much as we would have liked, we had a great time exploring the East Coast. There are definitely things we will do differently next time, and things we will do exactly the same. The east coast is rich in American History, and can't wait to explore it more.
